"Staff Great, Food and Rooms Could Improve"
My family member stayed at Village Cove Assisted Living for a short time. The workers there were really nice. The rooms felt a bit cramped, and my family member didn't like the food much.

"Mother-in-law Ignored in Facility, Refund Request Denied"
My mother-in-law only stayed 5 days in this assisted living facility, but we had prepaid for a whole month. They left her in bed with wet bandages for nearly the entire time. To make matters worse, her call button didn't work. It was like she was invisible there. We took her out after just 5 days, but they only gave us back a small portion of our money. Even though she wasn't there for 25 days, they ignore our calls asking for a refund for that time.

"Caring staff, but food and attention need improvement"
Permanent staff are really kind and caring, but they're always busy. Part-time staff can be hit or miss. My relative doesn't like the cafeteria-style food, and it's gotten worse since the new owners took over. She doesn't complain much, so problems might not get noticed quickly. I think she needs more personal attention every day.

Staff was super helpful, answered all our questions, and introduced my mom to other residents. The construction upgrades would be great for my dad with dementia, but overall it’s a wonderful fit.

"Mixed Reviews for Assisted Living Facility - Staff and Infrastructure"
I moved my mom to this place in April 2017. The workers are very nice and helpful. The care she has been getting has been pretty good. The major problem is the food. I think they're trying to improve it, but so far, the food has been mostly bad. Also, the place could look better. The living room needs new chairs and a new rug would change the look of the place. I would suggest more outings for everyone. Other than that, the new boss and the other workers are really trying to make the place nice for the older folks!

"Need for Invigorating, Transparent Cost Policies"
My mom has good and bad days at this place, sometimes needing an extra push to get out of bed. Inconsistencies in my mom's memory are being addressed by the staff and they're collaborating with us to ensure she receives necessary care. She likes some events and enjoys mealtimes with fellow residents. What impressed us during our first visit was their policy on fees. They were candid about costs and assured us of prior notification of any additional charges contingent on my mom's condition.

I moved my mother in just last week. It wasn’t easy, even though she was ready to make the change. The staff at Brookdale is amazing—very supportive, kind, and helpful. They really go out of their way to assist residents. The only thing I might complain about is the food; it could be better. However, they are very open to accommodating food preferences. Also, the facility could use some re-decorating. It’s not bad at all, but a little facelift with newer furniture in the living room and TV room would help. Overall, I highly recommend Brookdale Hilton Head Village, SC.

"Brookdale Necessitates Major Overhauls and Greater Transparency."
It's important to really look into things before making a choice. This Brookdale place has seen a TON of big problems with bosses and management stuff since the middle of 2015. Because of all this, there's been a bunch of problems related to the staff, food, dining area, and more. They've had way too many fire alarms going off really early in the morning. (Even more than the state says they have to have.) They're really slow to respond to accidents that happen in the residents' rooms (like when the emergency pull cords get used.) Now, this place got a new Director this year. You'd think they'd try to make things better with the people who live there given all they've been through. But no! There's a real lack of professionalism. They're never around when you need them. They just ignore issues even when families try over and over again to get them fixed. Brookdale really can't keep pretending like there's no problem. People who live there have shared a lot of negative things about the place and the people in charge. There's a bright side though. Some of the staff are really great. They're committed, do their jobs right, and act professionally.......But sadly, this doesn't make up for the lack of honesty, real care for people, and making changes when problems come up.

"A True Blessing for Our Family"
After looking into many options, we chose this place for our Grandfather. The people here are incredible so warm and friendly, exactly what you hope for when making such a tough choice. The facility is really nice and offers lots of activities. It’s been a true blessing for our family!

"Impressed From The Start"
They have done everything right. I’ve been impressed from the beginning. The staff is really welcoming to me and my loved one. I’m also impressed with how they take care of the residents. I love the size of the place, and they have a good number of staff compared to residents.

"Staff Turnover, Poor Meals, and Rate Hike at Assisted Facility"
Ever since Brookdale took Emeritus' place, numerous reliable staff have decided to leave or were forced out. We're still dealing with transition issues after over half a year. The staff is stretched thin, meals are unpredictable and frequently small. Even the nursing assistants have to help with meal prep and kitchen duties. To make things worse, they're increasing prices starting January 2016. After being there for more than two years, we're now exploring other places.

"More family interaction desired, otherwise good; 4 stars"
I think it would be nice if the facility could communicate more with families. Sometimes, we don't hear back from them enough. Also, they should have more things for the residents to do. Some of the staff members seem a bit unfriendly towards my parents. But other than that, things are going pretty well. The location and parking are okay, and the food is alright too. I'd suggest Emeritus at Hawthorne Inn at Hilton Head. Overall, I'd rate this place four stars.

"Decent Visit But Not Perfect For Mom"
We checked out the place during vacation time, and it was pretty okay. Unfortunately, the lady supposed to show us around wasn't there, but they did get back to us later. All in all, mom didn't really like the place much.

"Flexible assisted living services near family"
I like several things about this place. First, they provide assisted living, but you only get the help you need. So, if you only need certain services, you can have those, and if you need more help, you can get that too. I also appreciate that we don’t have to hire our own caregiver, unlike another facility we checked out that required that. My uncle doesn’t need care all day and night; he just needs someone to keep an eye on him. Eventually, he might need memory care, and I'm very happy with this place. One great benefit for my family is that my uncle's sister lives close by and can visit him every day.

"Assisted Living at Palm Village Falls Short"
This is about the assisted living part. They didn't do a good job looking after my family member. Things like keeping clean were ignored and it made me really mad. They promised to look after my family member but they didn't. Even when we complained, they shrugged it off. They were in a changeover stage. They did the job, but just barely.

"Memory care-focused facility shows promise despite management changes."
This place focuses on taking care of people with memory issues, and they do a good job. Right now, things are a bit uncertain because the management is changing. But they still take good care of him. We'll have to wait and see how things are once the new management gets settled in. Right now, there are a lot of different people working here.

"Good Facility but Dark Rooms Hinder Commitment"
This place is pretty good, and the food smells amazing. What I wasn't a fan of was how dark the rooms are. Even the two bedroom rooms, which don't have any doors, only have a tiny sitting area and no windows. That makes me not want to commit to this place.

"Nice place, inconsistent room pricing, small spaces"
It was a nice place, but the cost of the rooms varied a lot and the staff couldn't clarify why. The surroundings were beautiful and it's easy to get to shopping centers and doctors. But, the rooms were pretty small. I plan to visit their second location next week.

"A Good Place for My Dad's Care"
My dad has since passed away. He didn't die here, but when he started feeling dizzy, they took him to the hospital in an ambulance. No one went with him, but I don’t think they're required to. I saw something on TV about Emeritus, which is a big corporation, and it didn’t look good. But my experience was that they did everything expected of them. The place was clean, though not perfect. I’m not sure what they could improve; everything seemed fine to me. I was mostly happy he was out of my mom’s hair and in a place I didn’t expect him to leave. He wasn’t in palliative care because he wasn’t diagnosed with anything serious. One of my main concerns was that my mom was running out of money. This place was much cheaper than $5,000 a day, so he could stay longer.
