"Mixed Feelings About St. Gabriel Assisted Living Tour"
We had a great tour at St. Gabriel. The place is very nice and beautiful. It feels more like a hotel, which my mom doesn't prefer. But, for others, it could be a perfect match.

"St. Gabriel Community"
St. Gabriel Community is really nice. Even though the staff is short-handed, they're trying hard and are wonderful. Because they're short-handed, some promises weren't kept. Also, the meals could be better, which our loved one always complains about.

"Transportation Challenges Impact Assisted Living Experience"
The facility is friendly, supportive, and offers good food options. Weekly meal plans match Mom's eating patterns, and they manage Covid test results well. However, their transportation service for medical appointments has some issues.

"Potential for Improvement but Issues Persist at Assisted Living Facility"
I think this place could be really good, but right now, some things make me upset. They can't keep dining service staff, and I think management should help at mealtimes. My loved one often has to wait an hour to get her food, and getting drink refills is almost impossible. When she first moved in, they were supposed to have an exercise room. They had equipment, but it wasn't right for seniors. I understand they're having trouble getting the right machines, but months later, there's still no exercise room. This affects physical therapy for residents. My loved one has been very lonely due to Covid restrictions, and it's made her really depressed. Other than these problems, it's a nice, beautiful place. They have sliding barn doors, which save space, especially for residents in wheelchairs. That was one of the things that made me choose this place. My loved one likes the food okay, and there are options aside from the regular menu where you can get a sandwich anytime. They're supposed to have snacks in the evening, but when I've checked, there were only a few things left and some single-serving cereal boxes. But the rooms have a nice refrigerator and sink. You can bring a microwave, which is helpful. They have a lot of activities, which is good. They try hard. At bingo, you can win $1 tickets, and they bring in dollar store items to buy with the tickets, which is cool. They have a movie place, happy hours, a place to play card games, and a nice back porch with Klondike rocking chairs, though my loved one can't get up from them. They worked with us on the cost, which we appreciate. I like that they have call buttons worn around the residents' necks, and the staff usually get there in about 5 minutes. They will take care of you here, and they're always nice. The staff stop and talk to you in the hall, whether they're care staff or housekeeping, and that makes a big difference. They also talk with the residents. There's always a concierge in the front, which is nice. But I'm disappointed that they don't allow kids on the property, even outside of Covid. It would mean a lot to the residents if their grandchildren and great-grandchildren could visit.

"Concerns Over Senior Care at Assisted Living Facility"
My mom has been living in this place for over a year. The helpers and the people who keep the place clean are really nice. The place is clean and looks good, but I'm worried about older people who can't speak up for themselves. Here's why: 1. My mom fell twice and it took a long time for help to come. One time, she was on the floor with a broken arm for more than half an hour even though she rang for help. She had to call me at home to tell me she fell and needed help. The second time, it took a long time for help to come because there was a problem with the call bell system. 2. Once, the staff gave her someone else's medicine by mistake because they threw hers away. My mom knew it wasn't her medicine and called me. 3. During the COVID pandemic, I saw a staff member pushing a patient around the facility without a mask. The patient didn't have a mask on either. When I called to talk about it, they tried to say it didn't happen, but another staff member saw it too. They said sorry when I told them about it. I've seen residents walking around without masks a few times. They say it's hard to get them to wear masks. 4. I've had a lot of problems talking to the staff and I have to keep checking on things. When my mom moved in, we talked about her being a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate), but I found out last week that the paperwork was never signed. I had to ask several times to get it done. 5. It takes a long time for them to answer call bells and give out pain medicine. 6. My mom says there's not enough help when she needs it and she's always complaining about the food. 7. When my mom moved in, they didn't tell us about a cheaper rate for catered living. My mom found out from other residents. When I asked about it, they gave her the cheaper rate, but I think it was sneaky not to tell us about it when she moved in. I called the State and had a meeting with the facility a few months ago. Things got better for a few weeks, but then they went back to the way they were. I'm tired of things not staying good. My mom doesn't want to leave because she has friends there. I can't relax or feel like she's being taken care of. I have to keep checking on everything.
