Brookdale Germantown

"Caring Staff and Clean Facility"
I think it was a good place. The staff really seemed to care about my mom. I would recommend it. I chose it because it wasn't too big, it was clean, and we had a very positive feeling when we talked to the people who were staying there.

"Caring Staff Treat Residents Like Family, Customize Care to Needs"
The employees are very nice and caring. They treat the people who live there just like they are their own family. They also take care of each person's specific needs.

"Brookdale Germantown Review"
I'd suggest Brookdale Germantown, though not the greatest. My mom needed more help, and they weren't supposed to take her in according to their rules. She was only there for a week, and they were already saying she had to move somewhere else. They were nice but really insistent that my mom had to go to the place they found. Our time there wasn't exactly nice, not horrible but not enjoyable either.

"Sales Pitch Masks Negligent Care at Assisted Living Facility"
This assisted living place sure knows how to sell itself. During the tour, the workers make you feel like they know just what your family member needs. But once you move in, it's clear they were just trying to make a sale. Your relative gets meals, but besides that, they're pretty much left to their own devices. If your older family member just needs meals and a bit of socializing, this might be okay. But this place is just about assisted living. They hand out medicine, but don't expect to hear anything about any medical problems unless your loved one starts to get too much for them. Their attempt to connect with the residents seems fake and just for show. Often, when you come to the building, you see the same folks sitting in the lobby staring out at Poplar Avenue with nothing to do. Even though they're supposed to clean the rooms and help with baths, this hardly ever happens when scheduled, even though the schedule is right there on the apartment door. The floors and kitchen counters are hardly ever cleaned, and the whole place is not well-cared for.

"Warm Atmosphere, Improvements in Communication Needed"
I really like this place a lot. It's not perfect, but that's okay. No place ever is. But it's definitely the best place for my parents. It feels more like a home and a family atmosphere than any other place I looked at. When I go there, the staff and visitors are always around. The staff always says hi to me, and so do the residents. Everyone knows each other here. The common areas are always clean. I think they could do a better job cleaning my parents' apartment. They do okay with telling me urgent things. The things that are not as urgent, but still important, my dad usually tells me about, not the staff. I will say, if I call or ask questions they are good about answering me. They just don't always let me know about things ahead of time. I don't know if other people who don't talk to their loved ones every day would be happy with how much they tell me, but it's okay for us. Overall, I love the staff. They're all great. I have never seen them be less than wonderful to anyone, residents or visitors. The food is really good. The only problem I have is how they handle special diets, like diabetes or high blood pressure. They don't give enough details about the meals so people can understand what they are eating and if it's good for their diet. I would really like to see that get better. They have a lot of activities and things for people to do. Overall, I would tell my family and friends to go there.

"Mixed Feelings: Corporate Environment with Some Comforts, Some Struggles"
Brookdale Germantown feels very business-like. There's a lot of staff changes because it's typical business prioritizing profits and cutting corners whenever possible. Many things are lacking compared to other places, but every place has its pros and cons. One thing I like is the courtyard in the middle; it's why we chose this place. It feels secure, and my loved one's room is nicer than others we looked at. The amenities in their apartment are also better, but it lacks the warmth of a family atmosphere. Regarding meals, they lost their head chef soon after my loved one moved in. The dining area is still closed, and ordering food can be a hassle. The wait time is long, and sometimes the food is cold. Hopefully, things improve now that they have new staff. My loved one likes to walk but finds the courtyard poorly maintained, especially for the elderly. There's been an ongoing ant problem, and the landscaping isn't up to par. They miss having their own yard. Overall, I'm not sure if it's better to move elsewhere. All communities have issues.

"Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere make Brookdale Germantown top choice"
We chose Brookdale Germantown because the staff was really friendly and my dad felt at home during our tour. We visited a lot of fancier places, but none of them felt as cozy as Brookdale. It was the first place we saw, and my dad didn’t want to look anywhere else. Even though we did visit other places, none of them felt as comforting as Brookdale. I would definitely recommend it to others.

"High Costs Despite Nice Tour"
We had a really good tour at Brookdale Germantown, but it was really pricey. They also charged a big fee to move in that was super expensive.

"Staff are mostly responsive; rare cases of missed calls."
The staff are generally very responsive and quick to answer questions. We’ve only had a few times when we had to call multiple times and no one answered.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Experience: Sales Pitch vs. Reality"
The staff was good at selling, but promises fell short. During the tour, everything looked great, but you don't meet the residents. However, once you're in, it's not what they promised. It's not as lively or vibrant as they claim. If your loved one can do everything independently, it's okay. But if they need assistance, it's the worst place. Staff were nice during the tour but neglectful afterward. Food trays were left, floors dirty, and help hard to find. The director didn't seem to care about issues. Overall, totally dissatisfied.

"Mixed experience at assisted living, room for improvement"
The caregivers who are good are really good, but some aren't as good. They need to be faster when residents need help. Meals don't always match the menu, but you can choose something else, which is good. Activities are improving with the new director, but we want more. They're working on problems, so it could become great.
