"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
Before you sign anything, ask for a paper copy of the agreement, not just an electronic one that can vanish. Make sure it matches what the admission person promised. The nursing staff is good but they are overworked and leave by 6-7pm. Caregivers can't give any medications after that. I was told the director would never come in to give a medication after hours, but that's not true.

"Old-Fashioned Atmosphere"
During our tour, everyone we met was friendly and helpful, but the place felt old.

"Brookdale Hixson Assisted Living Review"
When you're choosing a place like this for your parents, make sure to check the nursing care and staff qualifications. Find out how many nurses are there throughout the day and what certifications they have. Brookdale could improve by checking on residents more often and hiring more certified nursing assistants. If you're healthy and don't need constant checking, Brookdale Hixson is a great choice. It's a nice place with good food and friendly staff.

"Nice office staff, poor care and food."
My loved one got a pancake, a piece of bacon, and a tablespoon of eggs for breakfast. They also serve cold meals and have given three noodle meals in one week. I would tell others to look somewhere else for their loved ones. The staff doesn’t pay enough attention to the residents. We’ve been waiting for maintenance to fix the cable in my loved one’s room, and I’ve had to fix things myself to get them done faster. The front office staff is really nice to the family. Billing is always wrong, but they say they will fix it. It takes forever for the staff to help when residents push the call button.

"More Independence Desired; Felt Like Nursing Home"
Our family visited Brookdale Hixson for a tour in person. The tour was nice, but our loved one prefers a place where they can be more independent. Brookdale Hixson seemed more like a nursing home to us.

"Unexpected Charges and Unresolved Issues, Can't Recommend Facility"
We found out that this place is taking money from us that they shouldn't be, and even though we've told them about it, it still hasn't been fixed. We feel cheated because they never mentioned these costs at the beginning. Our family member enjoys being here and it's a decent place overall, but because of this problem, we're starting to look at other places. I wouldn't suggest it to other people who are looking.

"Dreadful Visit to Brookdale Hixson, Felt Dull and Aging"
Following my visit to Brookdale Hixson, my impression was awful. The place is just old and gloomy. I didn't observe any residents up and about. I couldn't see myself ever wanting to stay there.

"Varied Experience in Assisted Living Facility"
Since we moved in, the price has increased and they now charge extra for different levels of care. The food is really good. The rooms are a good size and laid out well. They have two nice courtyards for residents to use. The staff is okay; there are some who are good and some who are not so good.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs Menu, Cleanliness, & Activities Improvements"
The food could be better. Sometimes they serve sandwiches and chips, hot dogs, or other not-so-tasty options. They need more easy-to-chew meat and veggies. They say they offer alternative meals, but choices are limited. Rooms aren't very clean. They claim to clean weekly, but residents often drop things and need more frequent vacuuming. Not sure about shower cleaning. Location and rooms are nice, but activities could be improved.

"Friendly staff, cleanliness concerns, and cost issues"
Nice staff, but cleanliness needs improvement. They only vacuum once a week, which isn't sufficient for our elderly residents. The bathroom doesn't seem to get cleaned regularly either. The monthly cost is comparable, but basic assistance like dressing and bathing should be included. Paying over $100/month for just two showers feels steep. The facility layout is good, but there are long waits at the locked front door. Maybe having someone available from 8 am to 8 pm would help. Moving to assisted living is a big change, and some psychological support would be beneficial.
