"Headline: "Deplorable Care at Kirby Pines despite Appealing Aesthetics""

My grandma has lived at Kirby Pines for 14 long years. After suffering a stroke, she had to move to the rehab center. She's been there for 7 weeks now, and let me tell you, as a nurse who's been in the game for 39 years, I'm seriously shocked by the level of care she's getting. Words can't describe exactly how poor it is. The guys in charge, the administration and nurse managers, are indifferent. They're not bothered by this sad state of affairs and they brush off any concerns or questions. The other staff have no manners and don't behave like they should. We even caught some dozing off at their desks during night shifts! Upon her initial admission, they messed up her diet order. It did not get fixed until another family member saw some no-no food on her dinner tray. When we questioned this, the nurse director simply pointed the finger at the doctor and didn't seem to care that the people delivering her food every day should have noticed the mistake. They're giving her insulin daily and letting her eat a regular diet! There are lots more issues I could talk about, but all in all, it's truly disheartening to witness this shoddy care, especially when the nurse director doesn't care or show any remorse. As a fellow RN, I find her lack of professionalism downright shameful. Don't buy into their fancy ads, nice lawns, or fancy entryways. The rooms where patients stay are outdated; like the furniture hasn't been replaced since the 60s! There's one dresser that looks like it was run over by a truck. The rooms are absolutely bare. There's no artwork on the walls or even a simple board to hang things on.

"Neglected AC at Job's Way Assisted Living Facility Causes Upset"

Review: If you end up at Kirby Pines' Job's Way, you'll find the staff is good. They genuinely care for people who are sadly losing their memories. But, the air conditioning? Terrible! It doesn't cool the facility properly and they won't sort it out! This issue has been a problem for over 9 years! We've had family there for two and a half years and whenever we complain about the heat, they only fix it for a day. Then, back to being too hot! They dodge my questions and no meetings ever take place as they've promised. It's all talk. This June 11th, they put in room coolers (which are awful and dangerous). They said it was a quick fix, but a month later, still nothing else done. It's still super hot where folks eat, go for events, or watch shows. Seems like Kirby Pines management cares more about looking good than actually helping everyone living there. Only Job's Way and offices are cool. Like they ignore the folks at Job's Way because they can't complain anymore. They disregard basic needs like keeping Job's Way cool. Disappointed hardly covers how we feel about Kirby Pines leadership. They let Job's Way folks suffer in the heat, with lousy air conditioning. We pay nearly 60,000 a year and can't get decent AC. Instead of taking care of the Job's Way people, they spend on shrubs, grass, sprinklers, and fancy lights.

"Poor Cooling System Neglected in Kirby Pines' Job's Way Facility"

If you end up having a loved one at Job's Way in Kirby Pines, you'll find that the personnel is terrific. They really care for residents experiencing cards stacked against them memory-wise. But gosh, their air conditioning is a disaster! It can't cool the place properly and they don't seem to care about fixing it! This has been a problem for nearly a decade! We've had a family member there for two and a half years and each time we gripe about the heat, they improve things for a short time before it's scorching hot all over again! They dodge my queries and propose meetings that never come to pass. They're pros at empty promises. They even set up room coolers (which are dreadful and pose risks) on June 11 saying it was a temporary solution. A month later, they've done nothing! It's still horribly hot where residents hang out, participate in activities or catch a movie. Kirby Pines management seems more geared to outward appearances than genuinely caring for their residents. Every other part of Kirby Pines and all offices are kept cool. It's as if they're exploiting the fact that the residents at Job's Way can't complain so they overlook their basic necessity: a pleasant, less sweltering environment all throughout Job's Way. Upset and let down, I don't accept how Kirby Pines leadership has left Job's Way residents to endure this torrid heat with the feeble air conditioning. We're billed almost $60,000 annually and still, no decent cooling system. They'd rather splash out on landscaping, sprinklers, and fancy streetlights than ensuring the well-being of Job's Way's residents.

"Clean and friendly, but lacked desired apartment options"

We visited this place and thought it was nice. Everything looked really neat and tidy, and the people working there seemed nice. But they didn't have what we wanted. We were hoping for a one-bedroom apartment, but they only had studios.

"Elderly Woman's Struggle to Retrieve Funds from Memphis Retirement Center"

I'm an 85-year-old lady who feels misled by Kirby Pines Retirement Center, Memphis, Tennessee. I joined Kirby Pines, laid claim to a guarantee of satisfaction; a grandiose promise signed by the President himself. This guarantee promised that if I ever felt unhappy, I could leave, and they'd refund me my entrance fee plus $500 for moving. Disappointments were plenty, starting with the managers and their assistants barely paying me any mind. Isn't interaction a big part of these homes? To keep us, seniors, engaged? What's worse, it took five months for the Chaplain to say hello. Given this lack of attention, Kirby Pines didn't feel like a home to me. Despite my grievances, the resident agreement didn't need me to explain why I'm unhappy. I just had to formally request my exit within a year, and then they'd refund my entry fee and moving expenses. I remember the sales agent repeating over and over again, as well as at orientation meetings that I could get my money back if I was ever unhappy with their services. This guarantee, I believe, is still being publicized. I handed in my termination letter and notified the management and asked for my refund. It's been two years; I've only been given fragments of my refund, after spending thousands of dollars on attorneys' fees and countless hours fighting for it. It's been a financial nightmare. Kirby Pines owes me $8,051.74; not a huge sum for some, but crucial for elderly folks like myself. Even after begging and constantly visiting the management for my money, Kirby Pines refuses to hand over the rest of my refund. The guarantee now seems like a mere ploy. I will keep insisting they honor their guarantee. That money is rightfully mine. I'm committed to warning other seniors and the elderly community about Kirby Pine's false advertising claims, and how they still continue to market this guarantee.

"Mixed Experience in Assisted Living Facility"

When we moved in, nobody greeted us, and they weren't expecting us either. Mom's supposed to wear a watch, but they don't check. She likes the food. They say they have lots of activities, but the place is so big that some residents can't easily walk to them. I asked the activities director to get Mom more involved, and she did. The lobby is really fancy with a big staircase and old furniture everywhere. The assisted living part is separate from the nicer area, which we didn't know during our tour. It was kind of confusing.
