"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living"
The doctor doesn't talk to us, rooms are messy, laundry mix-ups, and they make us sit in the lobby. Not the best place.

"Caring Staff Helps with Difficult Situations at Assisted Living"
The staff members have been really helpful and kind in assisting my husband. He needs a lot of help, and he's not always easy to deal with. I really appreciate those people.

"Care Receives Thumbs Up!"
They adjusted their prices for us. She's been there since August, and they recently changed owners. Overall, we're happy with the care she's receiving.

"Satisfied with Shelby Gardens Place for My Loved One"
My family member lives at Shelby Gardens Place and things have been mostly good for her there. The staff is friendly and I believe she receives good care. I wish they would assist her more in the evenings, but I'm not too concerned. It seems a little pricey for what she gets, but she feels content there, and I'm not thinking of moving her.

"Avoid This Place: Poor Care and No Management Response"
At first glance, everything seems fine. But if you sneak a peek inside the memory care wing, you'll find a different story. Residents in dirty clothes, glued to the TV, or left lying alone in their rooms. If you can't feed yourself and you don't have Hanukkah help, there's no food for you. For the one and a half years my mom was there, she never once went outside. My family had to be with her every day and tuck her in at night to make sure she was taken care of. It was so bad, we had to call State and adult protective services. The facility management doesn't fix anything. They play nice, talk big, but then do absolutely zilch. Many residents are underfed, thirsty, and left in dirty diapers. Don't risk your loved one's care here.

"Inadequate Care at Assisted Living"
When my mom joined, they claimed she needed a care level above 6. But they just couldn’t handle it, and it was pretty obvious. She was there for two weeks and almost lost her life. After a scary rush to the emergency room, we had to move her to a different place.

"Avoid Shelby Gardens Place: Poor Care and Lack of Communication."
The place doesn't keep the rooms clean. They fail to inform you if there's any trouble with your family member. After just a week, my mom had gotten various bruises and scratches. I decided to remove her from that place. I used to see my mom every day. She was not given baths regularly, her clothes somehow got lost, and no one mentioned her aggressive behavior until I noticed the bruises. I would strongly advise against choosing Shelby Gardens Place.

"Shelby Gardens: Dirty environment, untrained staff, unsafe for residents"
I've been in health care for over 40 years, mainly in hospitals where patient safety and recovery are top priorities. Recently, my mom's worsening dementia meant we had to move her into Shelby Gardens Place, a memory care place in Memphis. It was a shocking eye-opener. Despite appearing small and routine, with folks volunteering to sing and such, its issues become clear once you step into the memory care section. The smell of urine is everywhere, and roaches are crawling up the walls. Patients are often left hunched over and uncared for, the staff doesn't seem well-trained, and basic human decency is tossed out the window. Hygiene doesn't seem like their concern, as seen in cases like my mom's roommate who had fecal matter on her sheets right beside her meals. Just yesterday, she spent over two hours on the floor, freezing and parched. Five of my mom's past roommates have already passed on. Bottom line: this place isn't safe.

"Assisted Living Facility Review: Mixed Experience, Needs Improvement"
If you keep reminding the staff, it's okay. Mom's room got cleaned daily, but it was sticky, and dusty. Caregivers folded her clothes well. Staff were friendly. But, an incident wasn't properly investigated. Executive Director unaware of serious injury. Food wasn't great. Some caring staff, but not a good fit.

"Shelby Gardens: Caring and Attentive Assisted Living"
We've been very happy with Shelby Gardens. There were some problems the first month with the shower schedule and laundry, but they got fixed quickly. The nursing staff is very attentive, and we feel comfortable knowing she is well cared for. Having physical therapy in the same building is also a big help. She has gotten much stronger since she arrived. The caring atmosphere and people have greatly improved her well-being. The nurses have reached out to me to learn more about her medical and mental history. Their attention and care make me feel like it's a group effort to care for her. It feels like they really care and want her to be at her best. Many of the residents were helpful and kind when she first arrived. I think the residents are happy because of how well the staff treats them and the strong sense of community. Shelby Gardens was an answer to prayer, and working with A Place for Mom made it much easier than we expected.

"Cleanliness Concerns Need Attention"
The floor in our loved one's room is often sticky, so the cleaning and laundry service need to be better. We expected higher standards for cleanliness.
