Avalon Memory Care - Irving

"Clean facility with good staff, needs slight improvements"
When I visited, it was very clean. There weren't many residents in the common areas. The administrator explained their plan well and made me feel comfortable. It was also within my budget. The staff seems more qualified and equipped to care for my loved one than I am, which I think is valuable. If housekeeping and maintenance were a bit better, it would be almost perfect.

"Caring Staff and Affordability Shine at Avalon Irving"
I chose Avalon because it's affordable. The caregivers at Avalon Irving are kind and take good care of my mom. They don't have many daily activities, but that's okay because my mom can't participate anyway. It's reassuring that residents with their minds still intact appreciate the caregivers."

"Misleading information, lacking amenities; only for low-budget situations."
The lady who helps with admissions said they had things we wanted for our loved one, but they didn't actually have them. That's why we gave them a low rating. Only bring your family member here if you can't afford anything else.

"Understaffed, Unpleasant Environment, Poor Oversight"
I really wanted to like this place. The helpers and nurses are super nice. But it's seriously short on staff. The halls smell awful, like pee, and it makes me gag. People often go to the bathroom in public areas, both number one and number two, and it stays there because there aren't enough staff to clean it up quickly. I've seen fights between men, where they got hurt and bled. Some residents have had black eyes, and I've heard about others breaking their legs multiple times, which seems strange. The staff is nice, but the building is old, and there are bugs. I think nobody is really keeping an eye on things. We're moving our loved one out as soon as possible. Also, I've heard complaints about not getting enough food from several people. I can't wait to leave.

"Assisted Living Review"
We've had some problems but we're fixing them slowly. The medicine schedule is okay. Sometimes they forget to change diapers. They might need more training for moving residents.

"Memory Care Unit Okay, Not Ideal for Loved One"
The memory care unit here was okay for my loved one. This community is nice and has plenty of staff, but they didn't feel it was the right place.

"Nice building, but communication could improve"
We've only been able to visit the community a few times because of the pandemic. The times we were there, the building looked nice. I think they might not have enough staff. Other family members say that the communication from the staff isn't as good as they'd like. They have been really good about letting our loved one smoke on the patios.

"Avoid this facility, husband lost weight, had multiple falls"
Steer clear of this place! My husband ended up losing significant weight within just a month and a half. I wouldn't even place my pet dog in their care. Also, he fell twice in a six-week period, leaving him covered in bruises.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs Better Staffing for Quality Care"
Overall, things are okay here, but there have been some issues. The main problem is that there aren't enough staff and they lack the necessary skills to care for my loved one properly. I've talked to the manager about it, and they know. They have four caregivers during the day and four at night, plus someone assigned to each hall. They said they'd come quickly if my loved one needed help, but sometimes they don't because they're busy with other residents. Most of the time, they're just helping people find their rooms or moving them around. I think they need to be quicker and more flexible. The price is good, the staff is nice, and I'm not worried about my loved one being neglected. The place is nice and clean, and the staff usually respond well. But what it really comes down to is they need more staff.

"Poor care and serious issues prompted quick removal"
After only a few days, I decided to move my family member out. The workers told me it's best not to visit initially, which I got. But when I did visit for the first time, I was really upset. They told me they had to give him medicine because he was acting out. There were more big problems too, which made me get him out of there.

"Attentive Staff and Special Diet Accommodations Shine"
They're really good about accommodating my sister's special diet. The staff is attentive and responsive. Since they're remodeling, there aren't many residents, which means she gets extra attention. The wing she's in is kept clean, and they offer physical therapy a few times a week. Before choosing this community, I followed up and spoke to the owner because the initial presentation during our first visit wasn't very professional.

"Great staff and quick fixes, but few activities available"
We're still figuring things out at this community. My husband is younger and very active, so it's a bit different for him compared to the other seniors. The staff is generally good, though I think the weekday staff is more attentive than the weekend crew. They are good at addressing our concerns. We had a problem with the food quantity, but they quickly fixed it when I mentioned it. There aren't many activities available. Despite a few small issues, I would recommend this place.

"Mixed Experience at Avalon Memory Care"
It cost a lot. My dad didn't have a usual experience; he passed away shortly after moving into Avalon Memory Care. Initially, he liked it, but later, he wasn't happy.
