"Great facility, but slow response to call button"
Dad liked the facility, the front office staff, and the location. The nurses were thorough and professional. But the caretakers took a long time to answer the call button, which worried Dad.

"New, clean facility with great meals and friendly staff"
We've had a good experience at Juniper Village at Lincoln Heights. The place is newly renovated and looks beautiful. Housekeeping is great. Unlike our old place, my loved one’s room here doesn't smell and the floors are clean. The staff is good, but I wish there were a few more people to help the residents. It’s a tough job, and they can't always get to my loved one as quickly as he’d like. The move-in process was smooth, and the meals are great—my loved one enjoys them. I’d recommend Juniper Village at Lincoln Heights to anyone.

"Juniper Assisted Living: Neglect and High Costs"
My family member has been at Juniper for a few weeks. Some staff are good, but they're seriously short-staffed. Pain meds don't come on time, showers take forever, and the food is terrible! The staff was too rough during showers, which scared my loved one away. We've talked to admin about cutting her food into smaller pieces, but it hasn't happened. Our experience feels like borderline neglect, especially considering the high cost. I wouldn't recommend it for someone needing a lot of help.

"Avoid This Neglectful Assisted Living Facility, Poor Care Standards!"
Don't send your loved one here. They make them sit in their BM for over an hour, develop bed sores, and beg for care. Waiting for help takes more than 30 minutes. They may seem good, but it's neglectful and lacks care.

"They discarded belongings and lacked empathy."
I helped my loved one move, but Brookdale mishandled everything.

"Great care, friendly staff, and enjoyable activities at Brookdale"
I am very happy with Brookdale Alamo Heights. The staff and residents are friendly and welcoming. The food is really good, and the activities are fun and right for their age. They have a shuttle service that can take residents almost anywhere in San Antonio. My parents are happy with the care they get.

"Poor Care and High Costs"
My mom’s been there 5 years, but now I want her out. When she could manage on her own, it was okay. But once staff got involved, it went downhill. They mess up meds, ignore residents, and the price keeps climbing.

"Assisted Living Falls Short on Space, Staff, and Appearance"
The place tried to make big apartments from small ones, which wasn't cool. The people working there weren't prepared for us. And when I looked at it from the outside, it reminded me of those old nursing homes.

"Friendly staff, well-kept facility, top choice for assisted living"
Just toured. She was friendly and gave good info. We felt she was honest about what the facility offers and the costs. The place is bright and well-kept. Residents seemed happy, involved, and well-groomed. The studio apartments are nicely designed, and the bathrooms are huge. It's definitely one of our top choices.

"Avoid Assisted Living Facilities: Unattended Seniors Suffering in Silence"
My mom passed away at this place about two years ago, and I still struggle to talk about that experience. I strongly advise against admitting someone to these types of facilities, especially during holidays or weekends. We admitted her the day following Thanksgiving in 2015. That entire holiday weekend, only two staff members were on duty for each shift - one licensed nurse and a caregiver who would change the bed covers and all for the patients. I couldn't count the population, but it seemed pretty full. For that weekend, the nurse assigned was the one dividing and giving out the medicine, a task generally handled by a fully-dedicated worker during normal hours. I'm not really sure about the usual nurse-to-patient ratio on a regular day, but all I know is there were just two workers on deck. The nurse was preoccupied distributing the medications to all the patients. I spent a handful of hours with my mom each day that weekend. I made it back to the facility early Monday morning, only to find her unconscious in a wheelchair in front of the staff desk. I couldn't understand how she was breathing with her head slouched on her chest. When I demanded an update, they told me they were "watching her." She had been battling rheumatoid arthritis for years and had experienced a stroke causing speech loss before being admitted here. My mom wasn't comfortable being seated for prolong periods; however, they had her propped up in that wheelchair for hours. I moved her back to her room and got her settled in bed. Some time later, an external doctor came to draw blood but couldn't as she was severely dehydrated and had low blood pressure. After getting this news, they began delivering fluids intravenously. I had to leave and called my sister to check in on mom. That night, she was still extremely out of it and highly agitated. Unfortunately, she passed away later that night. Her fellow resident was strapped into a wheelchair next to her bed, her head hanging down on her bed. She had been asking for help to change her messy bed. Other residents were calling for help; it was really alarming to witness all of this. I shudder to think my mom's comfort levels before her passing. Steer clear of these places at all costs; they have been incredibly traumatizing for me. They are simply shelters for the elderly until they pass. And if you do need to be hospitalized, make sure you've got someone looking out for you!

"Aunt's Assisted Living Falls Short"
I picked this place for my aunt because her friend lives there. At first, it seemed like a good fit. But then I got surprise bills with hidden fees. They charge for helping my aunt, even though she should get her prescriptions for free. No one told me about these costs. It's hard to get help for my aunt when she needs it. The bell she uses for assistance often goes unanswered. Once, I had to call six times just to reach someone. She's missed hair appointments because no one helps her get there. Her room was a mess, with feces on the bed, floor, towels, and nightgown. They didn't clean it until I complained. This place only has a few good things like bingo, exercise classes, and happy hours. I'm thinking of finding a better home for my aunt.

"Understaffed Assisted Living Facility Neglects Disabled Residents"
This assisted living facility is seriously understaffed, and the lack of appropriate activities, especially for those of us with disabilities, is glaring. The dining situation is dismal with not enough food service workers which leads to rushed meals. This makes it difficult for those of us with disabilities or weak teeth to eat because the food - meats, lettuce etc. - is always cut too large. Despite our common areas appearing clean, our rooms are anything but. With the only cleaner getting fifteen minutes per room per week, conditions can deteriorate quickly. Accidents happen and no one checks. Even with absences, like my friend who never missed an activity yet mysteriously did so, or when I myself was sick for days, the checks are minimal and impersonal. For the excessively high cost of living here, the care given is disappointingly low. Despite it all, one of the most heartbreaking facts is how difficult it is to leave this place, even when circumstances are so poor.

"Welcoming Assisted Living with Communication Challenges"
My friend really likes her new place. She's got the room she always wanted. There are people to help her with medicine and drive her where she needs. She's enjoying meeting other residents, especially those at her table. She's opening up more now. The only problem is it's sometimes tough to reach someone.
