"Assisted Living Nightmare: Untrained Staff, Neglect, and Poor Hygiene"

Upon our arrival, the helper assisting my mom from wheelchair to recliner mishandled her frail hands, causing her to fall. The skin tore, blood flowing. Unresponsive staff, urine-soaked pants, and broken promises. Avoid this facility!

"Poor Management and Uninformed Decisions Force Loved One's Transfer"

Last June, I left a glowing review for this assisted living home. Now, I'm taking it back. The people in charge have changed, and my family member had to move to a different place because of it. Even though the doctor said my loved one needed certain supplements, those were given less than 20% of the time in half a year. A medication prescribed by the heart doctor was taken away without letting me know. They also didn't tell our doctors or their main doctor. They didn't even tell us about a positive Covid test until after the fact. When my husband and I visited right before Christmas, we found out three days after the test. My family member ended up having to go to the hospital with a urinary infection, arrhythmia, and following a Covid safety plan. They were then admitted to the hospital and had to stay in another care facility for 20 days. The friendly staff couldn't make up for poor leadership, a nurse deciding all the medical stuff without asking anyone else, and not talking enough to the family or doctors.

"Nice facility but fewer activities and less follow-up support"

We visited Brookdale Beckett Meadows, and it was a nice place. It had fewer activities compared to another Brookdale we saw and was quieter overall. The staff were great but not as good with follow-ups. It was a good place, but not the best fit for my loved one.

"Clean, Caring Assisted Living Community with Friendly Staff"

The community is currently struggling with staffing, but it’s clean, caring, and the staff is friendly. Based on my experience, I’d recommend it to others.

"Clean Facility with Good Food; Issues with Staff and Medications"

Overall, the place was clean, and the food was good. Some staff were fantastic and knew my dad well, especially the receptionist, but others weren't as involved. My dad didn't like waiting for escorts to and from meals. I had issues with medication management; they ordered meds the doctor had stopped and charged us $400. I felt they weren’t very attentive to that. They did have a care conference to discuss how to help my dad interact more, including moving his apartment closer to the lobby.

"Assisted Living Facilities: Oversights and Struggles in the Pandemic"

One silly mistake can potentially end a resident's life at these assisted living facilities. There's always talk of poor care being a result of lack of staff. But maybe it's more about needing better training? This concern was more common before COVID-19. What does that mean for now? Something as simple as forgetting to clean a phone or a door knob one time can put everyone at risk. Residents need to be frequently reminded of simple things like not to share their food by hand, for everyone's safety. Who's keeping watch over communal areas, like the candy dish in the lobby or the dining hall? Eating close to others is a risky affair in these times. There's always been heaps of work to do with barely enough employees, and it only gets worse now! Before all this, my mom told me she felt trapped here. Why not take better care of our loved ones ourselves instead of leaving it to these facilities? They seem to be always rushing even in normal circumstances. This would especially help the overworked staff at these places, particularly those in the Memory Assistance department. What use is having a lot of money if we can't help the person who took care of us in their old age? Note: As of today, 75 people connected to a long-term care facility in San Antonio, Texas have been infected. The situation is growing worse as 67 patients and eight staff members there test positive for the virus.

"Communication Deficit at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility"

If talking to your loved one at Brookdale Beckett Meadows Assisted Living is vital to you, don't count on getting in touch more than once a week unless you provide them with a phone or pager. Communication here is a huge challenge. Due to a family member's excuse, my mom doesn't have a personal or dial-less phone, which only worsens the situation. When I call the main number and get transferred to Assisted Living - Memory Assistance, the phone frequently rings over twenty times before someone picks up. The resident then has to be found. Once, I had to hang up after 40+ rings. This isn't a one-off - it's happened many times, even pre-COVID-19. Other friends and family of hers face similar issues, though they don't voice complaints. Considering it's 2020, not 1920, you'd think the facility would provide dial-less phones to residents, especially if they believe communication aids memory assistance. This problem raises questions about their ability to handle a health crisis responsibly. Complaining to the head office was a waste of time. They should at least put dial-less phones in common areas.

"Unresponsive Assisted Living Facility Ignoring Resident's Rights"

I am extremely frustrated with Brookdale Beckett Meadows. As an international caller, I have not been to the facility, and maybe this is why they believe they can make unproven claims. Being so far away, I wasn't involved in this poor decision-making process. What kind of so-called Memory Assistance Service makes a caller wait and wait, every single time they attempt to reach a loved one? I've tried reaching my mother multiple times, but have only been successful once. Usually, the phone just keeps ringing and no one responds. I've been calling during normal hours, at 10:30 am CST or in the afternoon. Given the amount they charge, this is unacceptable. Can't they just route the call to India for someone to answer? To be clear, the phone rings at least twenty times each time they transfer my call to Memory Assistance. It's as if the staff members can't remember how to answer a phone. The management at Brookdale Beckett Meadows advised my brother that giving my mother a phone may lead to her making unnecessary calls. If I were in her place, I would also want to make a desperate call for help! Is this how we treat the elderly in 2020? Given the high costs my brother willingly pays to Brookdale Beckett Meadows supposedly to make his life easier, rather than my mother's, one would think effective communication would top their priorities. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Is there anyone who waits for over 20 rings when calling a friend, a family member or emergency services? Their disregard for proper communication with the residents of Brookdale Beckett Meadows raises doubts about their services, their establishment, and the entire for-profit sector. Only four months ago, when my mother stayed at Brookdale West Lake, she sounded mentally stable whenever I spoke with her every two days or so. However, my brother decided to transfer her to Brookdale Beckett Meadows' Assisted Living without consulting me. Since then, I've managed to speak to her just once, despite calling at least ten times. I wrote to the Wellness Director about her diet and living conditions but have not received any photos he promised to send three weeks ago. They reasoned with my brother that withholding crucial information from residents was to prevent unnecessary calls to EMS. My mom has never made such a call or used her emergency necklace. These are just tall tales they use to control residents, which I find highly unethical and a violation of their human rights. They seem to claim my mother can't use a phone anymore, despite talking with me normally just a few months ago. This implies that my mother is being denied her constitutional right to communicate freely and privately, whenever she wants without supervision. Whether it's sending pictures of my loved one's room or connecting me to them over the phone, nothing seems easy with BBM. For those far or near, quick and easy communication with a loved one should be guaranteed. My brother, the one who placed her there, says that BBM suggested my mother forgo having a phone as she may make unnecessary calls. She was speaking rationally with me three months ago, yet they label her to serve their own selfish interests. BBM's unresponsiveness (never sending promised pictures and failing to connect calls), rings alarm bells. It appears to be a thinly veiled dumping ground for unwanted relatives. Great societies honor the responsibility of taking care of their parents; they don't discard them into the hands of hourly wage workers who lack transparency and accountability. If Memory Care was honest, they would encourage open communication for their residents. Failing to do so isolates them and can trigger depression and anxiety, which can impact their overall mental health and neurological adaptability, a contributing factor to dementia. Are there any civil rights lawyers taking note of this?

"Great atmosphere and happy residents at Beckett Meadows"

I visited Beckett Meadows recently and was really impressed with how nice the place was. The residents looked happy and were busy with different activities like playing games and spending time with others. I even got to meet the dietary manager, who was really proud of her food, especially the dessert. Some residents were enjoying their meals and coming back for more. The community was clean and felt very much like home. [Name removed] and their friendly team are clearly doing a great job creating a positive environment for everyone.

"Assisted Living Nightmare"

I give this place a star, but honestly, it's a big fat zero. If you care about your loved ones, stay far away. Four years back, I brought my mom here, and yeah, we had some moving hiccups. The old Director and Health & Wellness Director were champs, making it kind of pleasant. But then, cue the horror music, the new Director and Health & Wellness Director swooped in. Nightmare city! They couldn't care less about the residents, She's all about squeezing extra bucks from services they don't even deliver. Sure, there are a few awesome staff members who genuinely care for my mom. But guess what? They're underpaid and unappreciated. And get this: the slackers? They're like VIPs according So, I slapped a camera in Mom's room. After just one week, I'm done. Thirty-day notice, and we're out here. It's tough dementia, comfort, and a non-refundable $2500 deposit. But gross neglect? I can't ignore that. Listen up: think twice. They'll dazzle you on the first visit, but remember, you can slap lipstick on a pig—it's still a PIG. This place? WORST for your loved ones!

"Rude Management and Unwelcoming Environment at Assisted Living Facility"

Awful place to take your family member! The head person was super mean and didn't pay attention to my mom and me when we came in. This tall skinny guy wouldn't stop boasting about his art with someone who worked there. Nobody was there to welcome us, and only later did someone from the staff come up and offer to help. That's when I found out who he was. Plus, the place smells like pee. We're never going back!!
