"Brookdale Refuses Refund for Uninhabited Apartment, Sends Bill to Collections"
My mom liked this assisted living facility but never got to live there. The folks at Brookdale insisted that we lock in the current price before it went up. We paid the entry fee and got the keys, and held them for a week before returning them. In that time, we brought a few rugs and pictures to personalize the room for mom. She was supposed to move in the next week, but got upset about the move and because of her Alzheimer's, we decided to stay where we were. I thought it was fair to cancel the agreement, since we hadn't actually moved in. All we'd taken into the room could be hauled out in a little cart. We'd hung up a couple of pictures, so there were maybe four tiny nail holes. The room was one of many identical ones, including one right beside it, so it's not like we were blocking anyone else from renting it. If we had moved mom into Brookdale, it would have been a terrible mistake. But, Brookdale kept the entry fee and even billed us for a 30-day notice. I didn't want to pay because I thought we'd already paid enough for just holding the room for two weeks and never actually living there. Brookdale sent the bill to collections. The decision to give us back our money or not is made by the director on-site. They've now lowered the amount they're asking for, but they still want mom to pay more than the entry fee. I don't think we should pay anything else. We should've gotten the entry fee back. My mom never lived there. I wouldn't suggest Brookdale to anyone.

"Stable Staff and Confident Service at Assisted Living Facility"
I was really impressed because hardly anyone ever left their job at the facility, and the people working in the front office seemed very sure of themselves. Everyone was working really hard to follow all the rules and laws, and considering everything that was happening, they did a good job taking care of us.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living Community"
Some activities this community offers include bingo and arts and crafts. Before COVID, they used to take residents on outings. Our loved one enjoys the food, and the rooms are decently sized. We recommend this community with some reservations due to staffing levels.

"Good Experience at Brookdale Denton North"
We picked Brookdale Denton North because it's in a good location and has a smaller community. The staff doesn't change much, which is a positive sign. The rooms were just right for what she needed. She stayed here for about 3 months, and overall, we had a good experience. We'd recommend it.

"Too Expensive and No Smoking Allowed Outside"
I visited this place already, but it's too pricey and doesn't let you smoke even outside. You have to leave the property for that.

"Mixed Laundry and Access Issues; Overall Friendly Staff in Assisted Living"
Their laundry handling needs improvement; items go missing and get mixed with others'. Label everything to avoid mix-ups. The entry code system can be frustrating; delays entering and leaving the facility occur. I occasionally help clean mom's room myself. Overall, it's a pretty good place. Most staff are friendly and caring, though sometimes understaffed for residents' needs.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale Denton"
Since my in-laws moved to Brookdale Denton, things have been going well. The staff is responsive and available, but they could use more activities beyond bingo. I hope they improve their attention to bathing.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale Assisted Living"
My mom recently moved to Brookdale. She enjoys activities, though they're inconsistent. She's made a few friends, despite being less social. Overall, it's been positive; I'd recommend them if needed.

"Traumatizing Experience at Brookdale; Mom Recovers After Switch"
Don't entrust a loved one to this residence. The staff is unreliable and forever changing. My mom lived there for a year and had to be rushed to the ER twice - once for dehydration that required months of rehab, and the second time after a fall. They didn't even tell us about the second hospital visit and when we inquired about mom's status, they never bothered to get back to us. The spilled blood wasn't cleaned from the carpet for days. She spent most of her time bedridden. My mom was lucid enough to call me at work and confide that she felt ill and ignored. Yet when I confronted the management, they reacted defensively, convincing me she was fine. Upon visiting her the next week, mom's tongue was swollen to point of muteness. She looked gaunt and miserable; like she was at death's door. When questioned, the staff acknowledged her condition nonchalantly. The so-called nurses who were responsible for checking on mom only dropped by occasionally as they serviced several other places too. They had no idea about mom's latest health status and had to refer to papers because the nursing staff kept changing. Every time I called, I had to deal with a new face who knew nothing about mom's medication schedule. Unbelievably, one staff member attempted to make family members argue with each other over mom's care. Mom constantly complained of feeling sick under their watch. Thankfully, we moved her to Autumn Leaves and she's doing wonderfully now. She's gaining weight, isn't bedridden anymore, and is much sharper. We couldn’t be happier!
