"Great Staff and Food; Enjoying Long Stay and Activities"
I really like living here. The staff are always nice and helpful. The food in the dining area is really good. I've been living at Brookdale for nine years and eight months. I especially enjoy the church services and activities, especially the Men's Club.

"Outdated Facility with Mixed Staff Attitude"
I visited Brookdale Lake Highlands, and it seemed really old. The residents didn't seem too happy when I talked to them, they looked a bit sad. The people who showed us around were nice, but the others weren't as friendly.

"Insufficient Staffing at Assisted Living; Feels Like Independent Living"
This place seriously doesn't have enough workers. Because of this, they can't take care of everyone who lives there. A bunch of the workers seem mad at the people they're supposed to be looking after - I'm talking about the caregivers, not the office staff. Sure, they've got stuff like bingo and trivia to keep people busy, and even exercise classes. But it feels more like this place is meant for folks who can mostly take care of themselves, not so much for people who need help all the time.

"Friendly staff, clean, great courtyard, fun activities, good food"
The staff here are super friendly, and we noticed that right away. The big courtyard is a great outdoor space. We haven’t visited since March, but it was very clean back then. The activities are fun, and the food is really good.

"Neglect and Suffering: Assisted Living Horror"
My father arrived at this facility last October, expecting care and compassion. Instead, he was crammed into a tiny shared room, far from the glossy pictures at the entrance. The staff, with no regard for his well-being, yanked him up by his frail arms, tearing his skin. He suffered a heart attack there, and in his final days, he vomited incessantly—unnoticed, unchecked, and abandoned. As a WWII veteran, he deserved better, but Alzheimer’s made him a forgotten casualty. This place reeks of corporate greed, preying on the vulnerable. Texas Dept of Health and Human Services, take note!

"Clean, secure, peaceful assisted living with homey atmosphere and amenities."
I liked this place a lot. It's super clean and feels like home. They make sure everyone stays safe with a good security system. The outdoor area in the assisted living part is really nice and calm. Also, the memory care area has a garden outside for the residents to enjoy.

"Exceptional Care and Support, Hopeful for the Future"
The staff here have done an amazing job helping me with my mother. They've given us several tours and even visited her home. This community is truly great, and I felt it would be a safe and caring place for her, especially with her memory care needs. Sadly, my mother doesn't want to leave her home. I’ve told my friends and family about this community, and I still hope to bring my mother here one day.

I visited this facility, and it was very nice and homey. It seems like a good fit for my mom when she needs assisted living, as they accept Medicaid.

"Fantastic Experience, Just Need to Sort Out the Pricing"
I recently visited Brookdale Lake Highlands and was really impressed. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the executive director gave me a thorough tour. She was very kind and genuinely cared about my concerns for my mother—[Removed] was fantastic. The place was amazing and very well-organized, giving me one of the best experiences I’ve had. The only issue was the cost, but we're working on it so my mom can hopefully move into this lovely facility.

My family member has been living in this community since before Christmas. When I talked to her, she said she likes it there and thinks it’s okay. They’ve taken care of her needs, and she enjoys this new stage of life.

"Needs Work: Gloomy and Under-Kept Facility"
The facility's walls were covered in dark paint, giving the place a gloomy feel. The entrance showed signs of work-in-progress with boards and other construction materials lying around. Honestly, it wasn't nicely presented. I didn't really like the community on the whole.

This place is new to us, and we're hoping things will get better once Mom feels more at home and we can talk more easily. Looking forward to seeing some positive changes.

"Great Care and Friendly Staff at Brookdale Lake Highlands"
On January 3rd, we reached out to A Place For Mom to find an assisted living facility for our mother. Brookdale Lake Highlands was on their list, and we moved our mother in on January 18, 2016. We are really happy with the care she is getting and the friendly, helpful staff. The food is delicious, and the place is always clean and tidy. Sometimes, we needed to ask more than once to fix a problem, but the staff always responded in a friendly and caring way, and everything got sorted out. Jackie, Caria, Melody, and Carol in the front office made the move a really positive experience for both our mother and our family. I highly recommend Brookdale Lake Highlands.

"Don't Trust Your Loved Ones To This Money-Driven Facility"
This place is clearly all about the money. The things they say on their website about their mission and goals don't match up with what really goes on in their communities. Our experiences in Arlington's Broadway at pecan Plaza and now Lake Highlands have been terrible and really upsetting, both with the management and medical team. It's the worst place to put a family member.

"Avoid This Heartless, Money-Hungry Business"
I sadly cannot suggest this place, as it's now part of the Brookdale chain. I had my grandma stay at Brookdale's place in Arlington (Broadway at Pecan Plaza) for 3 years. It was a torturous experience dealing with both their office and healthcare teams. Brookdale has also taken over the Emeritus at Lake Highlands. Even after my grandma passed away, they're still harassing us for money, even though our account was paid off completely. Money is the main thing that matters to this business. The promises and goals they list on their websites, and calling their staff 'family', are all just lies based on what happened to us at both places. No one should go through this with their loved ones.

"Caring staff, close by, we both feel at home"
My husband has already moved in, and I'm getting ready to join him. We picked this place because it's small. He’s in memory care, and I’ll be able to live just around the corner from him. I really liked how friendly and clean the whole place felt when I visited. The caregivers seem to know what they’re doing. My husband doesn’t talk much, but the smile on his face shows me that he’s happy.

"Smooth Transition to Average Assisted Living with Good Communication"
We're still getting used to it; some bumps are okay. It's about average for the places we looked at, and it's priced in the middle. At first, we had some trouble talking to them, but they helped us pretty well. My aunt isn't big on socializing, so she might not be into activities; we haven't heard much about them. But they do have group stuff like ice cream parties, outings, and music performances. The location works fine; it's about a ten-minute drive from my Mom's place.

"Great place, small but ideal for the right person."
I dropped by to get a brochure for my father and stepmother and was greeted by a very friendly front desk staff member named Melody. She met with me, took notes, and gave me an impromptu tour, which I found very transparent and encouraging. The lobby was decorated with antiques and had a pleasant air freshener, making a good first impression. There were pitchers of water and tea by the door, which felt very welcoming. I received information on Veterans benefits and other services like the Emeritus network, Omnicare pharmacy, and the wECare resident evaluation system. Melody emphasized that they are a community and are one of the smallest in the area, which can be a nice alternative. Most residents in the dining room were in their 80s, but there were a few younger ones. I was introduced to every passing staff member, who made eye contact and shook hands. The facility has a nice interior courtyard with a covered patio and rocking chairs, a gazebo, and a small raised kitchen garden. Residents can put up their own birdhouses. The Memory Care wing is mixed with Assisted Living residents in activities like balloon batting and dancing. They also offer shuttles for doctor's appointments and some offsite activities. The private family dining room, activity room, and library are available. Apartments are small, clean, efficient, and customizable with walk-in showers. They have microwaves and mini fridges, with all meals served restaurant-style in the dining room. I got a really good feel from the place and staff. For the right person and time, I would consider it a top choice. The hands-on, personalized care is a big plus compared to larger facilities. Remember to screen based on your parent’s needs, use checklists from A Place for Mom and Caring.com, and ensure you get HIPAA Authorization forms to get involved with care providers. Have a Geriatrician review everything, as they can give specific advice on care needs.

"Unattractive Exterior, Miscommunication Results in Poor Experience"
Poor first impression...gives off nursing home vibes. I had a meeting scheduled for 10am, but was informed that she wouldn't arrive until 11. So we decided to leave. Later on, she called me saying she was there and that the front desk had made an error. Extremely poor communication.

"Homey and Warm Environment"
The cost depends on how much care your loved one needs. For my mom, it's been different amounts over two months. The care is good, and the activities are enjoyable. The place feels warm and homey not super fancy, but a great fit for my mother. The staff is very nice. The only issue was them adjusting to her needs, but we've sorted it out, and I'm pleased.

"Highly recommend for great care and helpful, friendly staff"
The staff here knows what they're doing and really wants to help with moving a loved one from home to memory care. They are friendly to everyone, including residents, guests, and each other. They listen carefully to your needs and make sure the care given is just right. They even help with decisions that don’t directly affect their care, like suggesting guardianship. I’m very pleased with our choice to move Mom here.

"Decent Room and Extra Care Costly, Facility Bit Gloomy"
The room is decently sized, costing $2800 and an additional $1000 for extra care. It's a bit of a distance to the cafeteria which is outdoors. The overall atmosphere felt a little gloomy. On the bright side, it's conveniently close to my house.
