"Assisted Living Feels Like Home"
Living here feels peaceful and comfortable. I don’t feel out of place it’s like home, my cozy place. I feel lucky to be here! If there’s a problem, I feel the door is always open. The staff always helps me understand better. I don’t know what I would do without them.

"Disappointing Experience at Brookdale San Marcos South"
Our time at Brookdale San Marcos South wasn't great. They need to do better. The place wasn't taken care of well. There wasn't much to do there. And the food was really bad.

"Better Budget Choice"
We considered this community as our second option. The staff seemed friendly, and the place appeared well-maintained. They offered enjoyable activities. However, the community we ultimately chose fit our loved one's budget better.

"Friendly and Comfortable, But More Activities Needed"
Brookdale San Marcos is very clean and comfortable. The food is really good and served restaurant style with nice tablecloths and lots of choices on the menu. I wish they would encourage residents to mingle more during meals. They should encourage them to change tables to make new friends. My mom thinks she has to sit at the same table all the time. I would like to see more activities for the residents and more encouragement for my mom to join in. She needs help to get to different activities because she can’t move around as easily as some of the other residents. If she isn’t personally encouraged and helped to the activities, she will just stay in bed because she doesn’t feel confident. The staff has called me to let me know she doesn’t want to get out of bed, and then I call her to tell her she needs to get up and go. They offer Bingo twice a week and a couple of other activities, but these are far from her room. They could have more musical entertainment. They provide outdoor activities, like feeding the birds, and residents can take walks around the community. They provide transportation for trips to the doctor and shopping, but not for doctor appointments outside of the San Marcos area. The staff is very friendly and really sweet. My mom really loves her nice, big apartment. We feel mom is very comfortable here at Brookdale San Marcos.

"Fantastic place for your loved one—friendly staff and happy residents"
My first impression was fantastic. The person at the front desk greeted me warmly. The Marketing person gave me a tour and answered all my questions. As we walked around, I saw that all the residents were having a great time chatting with each other and the staff. I also met the Director of the facility, who answered more of my questions and spent time with me, which I really appreciated. I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff, residents, and everyone I met there were so friendly and helpful. My mom loves it and has already made new friends and stays busy with all the activities offered.

"Amazing Staff and Safe, Comfortable Environment!"
I love how patient the staff are with my mother-in-law. They work hard to encourage her to join in more activities. Her room is really nice and close to the dining room. The place is clean and well-organized. Most importantly, we feel she is safe here.

"Discontent Over Deposit Refusal After Fall"
My husband was at this place for just a few hours before he fell and injured his hip. I am upset with this community because they didn't give back my deposit even though we couldn't move in after his fall on their grounds. I was ready to pay for the time our stuff was in the room, but I'm still waiting for an answer.

"Nice place but found a closer option with right room size"
We visited this place while touring. It was very nice and definitely a choice. However, I found a place closer to me with the room size we needed.

"Needs more care than they provide"
At Brookdale San Marcos South, they don’t provide enough care. Staff remind him to take his insulin but don’t do it themselves. They can’t even check his blood sugar. One time, it dropped to 34, and I had to check it myself. People fall often there, and it seems like the move has affected their memory. On the bright side, they say the food is good, and the staff is attentive. The room is nice. However, the billing is confusing and keeps increasing. The staff is very responsive. Overall, it’s a good place, but I might move him soon to get better care.

"She'd Be Happy If She Had Chosen To Go"
I can’t think of anything they could do better. My mom didn’t want to go there and preferred staying at home. I believe she would have been very happy if she had decided to go.

"Dismayed by Meal Service at Brookdale"
On weekends, the food given is neither enough nor good. It's like they're just heating up boxed meals. The people in charge of food are not doing their job right- like forgetting to take orders, fill up drinks, or bring extras like ketchup or mustard when asked. It really breaks my heart to see the older people here not get treated the way they should during meal times. Besides this, I don't have a problem with Brookdale or the rest of the staff. I hope they do something about this problem soon.

"A Terrible Experience: Poor Care and Unpleasant Conditions"
I think they treated my mom horribly at [removed]. The facility smelled like pee, and the food was gross; not only was it served in tiny amounts, but who'd want to eat it? The staff seemed inexperienced and clueless. Errors were made regularly. They even stopped my mom's medication because someone accidentally turned over her medication chart, indicating she didn't need her meds. I wouldn't suggest this place to my worst enemy, let alone someone I care about.

"Few People in Independent Living, Small Rooms and Bad Smell"
I didn't find many folks walking around the Independent living area, and it didn't really give off a happy vibe. Checked out two rooms - they appeared to be tidy, but quite cramped, and the corridor had a not-so-nice smell.

"Renovations at Emeritus in San Marcos"
This place is a bit old, but they're working on renovations. The food is really good, and the staff is friendly and helpful. However, during meal times, the same staff handling meals is also responsible for assisting on the floor, which can slow things down.

"Mom's bad experience: Unpleasant atmosphere and inedible meals."
My mom is really traditional and she was bothered by all the dating happening among the residents. She was truly uneasy with the whole scenario so we had to move her out. The food was another big issue for her. As a great cook herself, she was not at all pleased with the poor quality meals offered. Most of it was fried and even simple canned spinach was messed up. The room she was given was gloomy and uninviting. I regret making the decision to place her there at all.

"Friendly Staff, Older Property: Remodeling Efforts Underway"
This place is kinda old, but they're fixing it up some. The folks we talked to were super nice and seemed to know everyone's name. Our first tour was with a staff. She was excited, but couldn't really answer our questions. Then the boss showed us around and he was really helpful and friendly.

"Must furnish own transportation to move in"
Residents need to provide their own transportation for doctor's appointments. Additionally, there's a substantial processing fee for moving in.
