"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"

The staff, like the nurse and activity director, were great. The food was good, and maintenance fixed things quickly. But, sometimes it took too long for someone to come when we pressed the call button. They didn’t check on my partner regularly when he was sick, and the cleaning wasn’t good either.

"Mixed Experience with Assisted Living Facility"

The staff is really friendly and welcoming, which made us choose this place. I would suggest it, but there are some things to consider. Unfortunately, my loved one has been left alone in her wheelchair three times, and it takes too long for someone to come help when needed.

"Dangerous Elder Care: Avoid Brookdale Shadowlake!"

Brookdale Shadowlake is the absolute worst place for old folks' care that I've ever seen. Don't go there, it's really bad. The people who work there don't tell the truth about what's happening at the place.

"Reasonably Priced Assisted Living with Good Care and Facilities"

This place was really clean and well-kept. The care they provided was good. It's a great deal for the money, which was nice. I liked how the facility wasn't too crowded, and it's just a really nice place overall. They have separate buildings, and the kitchen area is nice. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. It's a good value for the money. Overall, it's a great place for your loved one.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs Improvement"

This place doesn't have enough staff. The food isn't tasty. It takes too long to help my loved one. They don't have many things to do, especially for people with memory problems. It would be good if they had exercise classes. There was a time when my loved one's room wasn't cleaned for weeks, and they didn't change the sheets.

"New Assisted Living Community Shows Promise"

Once everything runs smoothly, they'll earn 5 stars. Everything feels new right now. The staff, director, and activities lead are all new. The activities director, , is starting from scratch, but she's highly qualified. We're excited to see how the activities develop. They're doing their best with communication, and we'd recommend this community to other families.

"Expensive Assisted Living with Institutional Feel"

Brookdale Shadowlake seemed nice, with good room setups. But you can't eat in your room; everyone eats in the dining hall. It's pricey, especially for Medicare users. The place looks a bit institutional.

"Great care and friendly staff in a comfortable environment"

Brookdale is a great place, especially if you’re busy and need reliable care for your parents. They keep in touch if anything comes up, which gives me peace of mind knowing my loved one is well taken care of. The environment is nice, and we found a budget-friendly Brookdale that looks similar to the more expensive one. It has the same layout and everything. The only small differences are that some of the buses are older and the outside furniture and screen porch/door are older too. They’re working on replacing the porch/screen door. My mom loves the cottage-style, home-like setting. It’s clean, smells good, and has fresh paint. The staff are very friendly and kind to her. She has short-term memory issues, but I don’t worry about her mixing up her meds or not eating. It took a while for her to adjust, but she settled in nicely. She has a dog with her and can walk it several times a day. I’m really happy with this place and wish every senior could afford to stay here.

"Brookdale Shadowlake: A Safe and Secure Community"

Our family feels very safe and secure at Brookdale Shadowlake.

"Good care, minor issues, and responsive management."

You need to keep track of everything. They do a good job, but since you’re paying, you should make sure the services are good. This is true everywhere. When my loved one has a complaint, we tell them, and management responds well. The daily care staff is pretty good, with only minor issues now and then. They clean decently and the place doesn’t smell at all.

"Friendly Staff and COVID Considerations"

I only talked to the activities director, who was friendly and helpful. The residents liked her, and she knew everyone by name. There are activities, but due to COVID, outings happen only about once a month. I appreciate how residents are grouped based on their needs and personalities. If I can't find something closer to home, I'd consider this facility. It's quite far and adds to travel time since it's heading toward Houston.

"Good choice for Brookdale fans, rooms decent, food okay"

We chose Brookdale Shadowlake because she was already at another Brookdale place. She had paid the community fee and felt comfortable, so it made sense to move here. The rooms are a good size, but she thinks the food is just okay. Overall, I would still recommend this place.

"Friendly staff, good communication, nice rooms, recommended."

At first, it was great because we could visit our loved one, but COVID made that hard. The staff is very friendly and communicates well. The room sizes are nice and fit my loved one well. I would recommend this community.

4/5.00 Published 4 years ago

"Good community, helpful staff, some COVID-related communication issues"

It's a nice community. COVID affected everything there a lot. They try hard to keep you informed and updated, and they do a good job, but sometimes there’s a bit of miscommunication. We picked this place because it’s close to my work. I would suggest this community to other families. The staff are really good, and the setup of the community works well for both my mom and me.

"Consistently Good Care and Attentive Staff"

My mom is in the memory care unit and isn’t very active, so I don’t know much about the activities. But the staff is very caring and attentive. I’ve visited her a few times unexpectedly, and her care has always been good.

"Helpful Assistance for Loved Ones"

was really nice and answered all my questions quickly. She happily helped our family find the best choice for our loved one.

"Mixed Feelings: Small, Pleasant, but Food Issues Persist"

I chose this place for my Mom since it's closer to home. It's small, which has its charm, but sometimes it feels too tiny. Mom's room is spacious with a nice view of a patio. It's decorated nicely with lots of plants. But, Mom isn't happy with the food. She orders from the menu but gets something random, like the staff picks for her. I talked to the managers, and it improves briefly, then slips back. I'd suggest it to others despite the food issues.

"Mom Loved It Here"

I really liked the place. My mom stayed there for about 10 days and she was very happy. The staff was easy to talk to, took great care of her, and seemed to really care. The food was amazing—when I visited, they served chicken cordon bleu, and it was fantastic. They kept her room clean with daily housekeeping. They had different activities like chair exercises and games for everyone. I'd definitely recommend them to others.

"Impressive Community"

We toured this community and were quite impressed. Although my mother’s health wasn’t optimal at the time, we noticed that they might not have enough medical staff to meet all her needs. Still, the community is exceptionally clean, well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and professional. If my mother’s health continues to improve, we might consider moving her here.

"Pretty Good Facility, But No Cost Information On Weekends"

We toured the facility on a Saturday and it was pretty good, but we couldn't get any info on how much it cost. We think touring during weekdays might be better.

"Nice Community"

I took a cool tour of this place. Everyone was nice and friendly. The staff was polite and answered my questions. The community looked good. Everything went fine, but it wasn't the right fit for us. Still, it's a nice place, and I'd recommend it for a tour.

4/5.00 Published 7 years ago

"Safe and Recommended Community"

For the most part, we haven't had any problems with this community since my mom moved here. The only issue we've encountered is getting her therapy started. Besides that, my mom is doing well. I feel comfortable with the care they provide. It's a good, safe community, and I'd recommend it.

"Caring Staff and Beautiful Property"

I was really impressed with the staff at this community. They were so caring and even went out of their way to check in with my loved one and me after our visit. That meant a lot to me. The property was beautiful and had lots of great amenities for all the residents. In the end, it just wasn't the right location for my mother.

"Great staff and grounds, but activities and interior need work"

Shadowlake is a nicely kept place with beautiful landscaping. The building itself is older and could use some updates, especially the carpets, which are stained and need to be cleaned. This is important in a place where germs are a concern. The staff here are very caring and hardworking. They genuinely care about the people living here, not just about the company. Their dedication is clear, and they definitely deserve recognition for their efforts. While there have been a few hiccups with care services, these are things that management can address. One thing that bothers me is that even though there’s a calendar of activities and events, many of them don’t happen. It’s disappointing because I’d like to see my mother and all the other residents have more opportunities to participate. I know things don’t always go as planned, but it’s still a concern. This is our second Brookdale facility. We had mixed experiences at the first one, but we’re hopeful about the new leadership at Shadowlake. I’m optimistic that things will improve here as well.

"Convenient Choice for Mom's Stay"

We picked Brookdale Shadowlake for my mom's short stay because it was close by. No issues, had a good time.

"Helpful Staff, But Not the Right Fit"

The staff at Brookdale Shadowlake were very helpful and gave us good information. I liked the tour, but we didn’t think the place was right for my loved one.

4/5.00 Published 7 years ago

"Professional Staff!"

I thought the staff at this community were very professional during our tour. They took the time to make sure my mother and I had a great experience and answered all our questions in detail. I also enjoyed seeing the residents participating in various activities throughout the building. Overall, it was a great experience.

"My Take On The Tour"

The place felt a bit gloomy during our visit. My loved one wasn't thrilled about moving here, but they do have a nicer outdoor area than our other option. The memory care area seemed good, and the people we met were friendly.

3/5.00 Published 7 years ago

"Fantastic Food But Minding Personal Care Needs"

We had a pretty decent short-term stay here. Everything was so neat and the food was terrific. My mother put on some weight during her stay, which was good. We gave her everything she needed. The only problem we had was that they didn't brush her teeth or help her walk around the area.

"Anticipating Improvements, Decent Assisted Living Facility"

The workers are doing alright, but my mom struggles to ask for them. It's a neat, well-cared-for place. However, their eating hall really feels like a place like a hospital or school cafeteria. I wish they'd make it more friendly and welcoming. The food's just fine, not a lot of flavor or choices. They did good by us when it came to cost, which is why we chose this place. There are3 employees my mom's acquainted with. Things are getting better.

"Friendly Staff, Clean Facilities but Overpriced!"

We enjoy the friendly vibe and cleanliness at this assisted living center. But, they didn't follow through with everything they promised us before we moved my husband in. Plus, they upped the cost without providing a reason. I visited for a Christmas lunch, and the food was okay, just cooked more than I prefer. My husband gets involved in their activities like singing in the choir and playing bingo, and he enjoys it. Overall, his experience is positive.

"Consistent pricing needed; otherwise, great care for Dad."

This place is really nice and clean. The people who work here are super nice and caring. The food looks good, and they have activities for my dad to do so he stays busy. But sometimes the prices change every month, which is a bit confusing. It would be better if they just kept the price the same every month for everything. But overall, this place takes good care of my dad.

"Warm and Caring Environment"

I really like the family atmosphere at Brookdale Shadowlake. The staff is very friendly and takes good care of my loved one. The community is clean and well-organized. If I have any concerns, they work to fix any issues. The meals are tasty and nutritious, though they could use a few changes. Overall, everything is good.

"Excellent Care and Support Highly Recommend!"

The care my loved one got was amazing. There was always a staff member checking on my dad to make sure he was comfortable and had everything he needed. I will definitely choose this place again in the future and I highly recommend it!

"Upgrade and Clean Up Needed at Brookdale Shadowlake!"

The Brookdale Shadowlake team was really nice and helpful. They answered all my questions about my mom's care and needs. They have a lot of fun things for people to do, like trips out and about. But, the place is kind of old and could be cleaner and better taken care of. It would be better if they updated some things and kept it in better shape.

"Not Feeling the Value at Brookdale Shadowlake"

It seems like I'm not getting my money's worth at Brookdale Shadowlake. I thought I'd get a lot more for what they're charging. Plus, the staff keeps asking for extra stuff.

"Friendly and caring staff, clean facilities, great experience"

The people who work here are really nice and helpful. The place always looks clean and smells good, and everything is taken care of. The nurses are friendly too and make everyone feel comfortable. Overall, it's been a really good time here.

"Gracious and Patient Service"

I only held back from giving five stars because I’m not sure what a perfect senior care center looks like. But I have no complaints. We placed a colleague in respite care. It was supposed to last a bit over 3 weeks, but a health crisis made us end his stay at Brookdale Shadowlake early. I was really happy with the facility and the kind care from the staff. I was out of town while our friend was there, so I didn’t see the care myself, but my agent said it was very good. My request for residency had to be processed quickly, and the staff was very patient and did everything they could, despite the usual glitches, to get it done. As for the cost per month, my friend didn’t plan to stay a month and stayed even less, so I’m not sure what the monthly price would have been. But I do know it was about $2,000 less than other places we checked.

"Top service, great value, and a welcoming environment."

The service here is top-notch and the value is great. The location is perfect, and the food is fantastic. I highly recommend Brookdale Shadowlake. The place is spotless and everyone is super friendly and welcoming. I’m really happy with everything at Brookdale. Everything has been running smoothly with no problems at all. This place definitely deserves five stars.

"Lacking Communication, but Decent Care at Brookdale Shadowlake"

The Brookdale Shadowlake is alright. It's been fine. The only problem is they don't respond quickly. They were supposed to call me, but they didn't.

"Care Lacking at Night, Resident Comes Home with Bad Habits"

The GM, She does a good job getting involved when you need support. My Mom stayed in the first building of the memory care section, where the main daytime caretaker is pretty good about engaging with residents and organizing activities. During the day, there's usually 3 or 4 staff members on hand, but at night, there's only 2 aides for about 15 to 18 residents. This isn't enough, and a lot of residents end up neglected, sitting in soiled diapers, while staff are on their phones. We were told that there was a nurse on duty in building 1, but that wasn't the case. The night nurse is in a separate building and only comes when called. We were also told residents were checked on every two hours at night, but if that were true, my Mom wouldn't have been left to urinate on the floor and hide her wet diaper under the bed, which wasn't discovered until the next day by a family member. Since bringing Mom home, we noticed several bad habits she picked up there, like eating with her hands and refusing to use the toilet. She'd rather sit in a soiled diaper all day, attributing that to being told she had to wait. But, we're glad that we brought her home - now she's using the toilet properly, eating with utensils and is even learning to walk again. Even though she has dementia, she's more alert and active than any of the other patients in the memory care unit. Some things she told us about her treatment are hard to ignore.

"Good Place, Friendly People, but Needs Stronger Security"

Brookdale Shadowlake needs better security. Shortly after my mother in law moved in, her cellphone was stolen and hasn’t been found. Because of that, she doesn't feel as safe as she should. On top of that, doors that should always be locked aren’t. Even though the place is well-kept and the folks there are friendly, they really need to step up their game in the security department.

"Great Place with Friendly Faces and a Cozy Feel"

At Brookdale Shadowlake, one thing we really like is its size. It's a cozy, homey place, which was exactly what we wanted. The people here, both staff and residents, are super friendly. Many of them have been here for 10 years or more, so it must be a great place! We’re very grateful and would definitely recommend Brookdale Shadowlake.

"Caring Staff, Limited Communication, Affordable Rates in 18-Bed Facility"

This place is small, with only 18 beds. The staff is really nice. But, everyone I saw seemed to be in worse condition than my mom. They couldn't talk to each other. It costs $4100 per month.

"Friendly Staff and Great Place"

They're pretty good, but I'm not sure if he's letting them do everything, like bathing and shaving. The staff has been really nice, and the place is great. The food is good, fresh, and they offer choices. Just be aware that managing medications costs extra. We liked the room's location—it's spacious with high ceilings, ceiling fans, and closet space. The shower even has a fold-out seat for wheelchairs.

"Good Value and Nice Layout"

I think all places like this could be better, but it’s good. We feel like it’s been a pretty good value because they had a special when we signed up - $1000 off for 18 months! There are 2 people at the building during the day and 1 at night, but the staff doesn’t interact with the residents very much. Some are more proactive than others. Overall, it’s pretty good.
