"Friendly staff, but families must stay involved for better care"
The front office staff at Juniper Village at Spicewood Summit is friendly and calm. The nursing staff is great, but sometimes the day-to-day care staff doesn’t meet expectations. For instance, there were issues with two different staff members over seven months. Families need to check in frequently and work with the Assisted Living Director to fix these problems and improve the quality of care. It’s important for families to be actively involved and visit often to make sure their loved ones are getting the best care.

"Not Recommended for Others"
My family member lived at Juniper Village before, and I wasn't satisfied with the facility. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.

"Experienced Staff and Great Food Make It Feel Like Home"
I really liked that some of the staff had been working there for a long time, which I think says a lot. Some caregivers had been there for up to 20 years. The food was really good too. They had a menu with a lot of choices, and you could order from it almost any time of day. It felt like having your own personal chef available.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living Facility Experience"
Our family visited in person and didn't notice any major issues. The place was clean, but the cost seemed a bit too high. However, our main concern wasn't with the community itself but with the sales team; they were very pushy and aggressive, which was off-putting.

"Highly recommended, good facilities, excellent COVID measures, caring staff."
When my mother-in-law started having memory issues, I moved her to this assisted living facility because it was highly recommended and close by for frequent visits. During her time there, she also spent some recovery time in the skilled nursing area of the Juniper community. Both facilities were good. They’ve done an excellent job keeping COVID out and helping residents stay sane during lockdowns. Many staff go above and beyond to make things better for residents.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"
They have really nice staff, especially the caregivers. But they asked our family member to leave without telling us first, which was upsetting. Also, the food isn't great - small portions and not very tasty.

"Disappointing Experience at Brookdale Spicewood Springs Assisted Living"
Brookdale Spicewood Springs is not as good as it used to be. While the staff is nice, there aren't enough of them. It takes too long for them to respond when residents need help, which can be dangerous. Sometimes it's quicker for emergency medical services to get to a resident's room than for Brookdale Staff. Also, they don't allow residents to have their own medical alert systems. We've been here for 13 years, but now we're not sure it's the best place for our loved one. When we talk to the staff about our concerns, they just try to make us feel better instead of fixing the problems. We have proof of our calls and their responses. Anyone thinking about living at Brookdale Spicewood Springs should ask for a written promise about how quickly they'll respond to call lights. Also, if you're thinking about any Brookdale facility, ask about how often they raise the rent and by how much. Our bill has gone up a lot over the years, and it seems like Brookdale cares more about making money than taking care of residents. Unfortunately, we have to be really careful when choosing eldercare facilities nowadays.

"Good stay but furniture too small for tall residents"
My father-in-law stayed here for a short visit. Most things went well. His only issue was the furniture—it was too small for him because he is tall. Besides that, he had a good time. He liked the food and enjoyed the amenities. If needed, he would come back for another short stay. It's a nice place, and I would recommend it too.

"Mixed Feelings on Care and Meals"
My dad gets help from a nice place. I like how they care for him. The people who help are friendly and answer my questions well. The place is clean, which is good for both my dad and when guests come over. But, the food is not great. My dad says it's bland. We've asked for better meals.

"Unfriendly Staff and Poor Facility Maintenance"
My mom stayed here for a few weeks to get professional nursing help after she broke her hip. I felt that almost all of the staff didn't really care and weren't very friendly. The people who provided occupational and physical therapy were kind, but I'm not sure if they're actually part of the facility. The place where everyone eats is too cramped and difficult to move around in, especially for those using wheelchairs. They told me they would wash my mom's clothes. But after waiting for over a week, I ended up taking her clothes home to wash them myself. They hardly ever took out the trash, and her room's floors were really dirty.

"Below Par Nursing Care and Overlong Medication Waiting Times."
I attended this place for nursing care after a mishap. The quality of nurses varied from truly outstanding to downright alarming. It's a bad spot for those needing skilled nursing, as I was surrounded by people deeply lost in Alzheimer's making conversation impossible. Long-term stays can lead to feeling isolated and possibly depressed. It seemed apparent that all fun activities were for those staying long-term. Fancy names described the food, like something out of a luxury restaurant, but it tasted more like a simple school cafeteria meal. Waiting times for my medication often stretched between 1.5 to 2 hours. This wait for pain relief was almost unbearable. Family members should make random visits, not just on weekends but also on normal weekdays and evenings. Only then will you know the real scenario. The physical therapy was decent but offered just once daily. This was insufficient for my requirements, forcing me to catch up on my own when I returned home. They meant well, but there just weren't enough physical therapists to allot the necessary attention. One nurse's actions even landed me in therapy. If your loved one is deemed "challenging", they may experience a lack of empathy. I suggest looking elsewhere for superior care.
