"Caring Community with Room for Improvement"

The staff truly care about the residents. They try hard to help with everything: physical, emotional, and social needs. It would be better if they offered more meal choices.

"Friendly, Affordable, and Close to Home"

We chose this place because it’s close to home, has activities to keep him busy, and fits our budget. It’s nice. The people are friendly and they keep you updated on your loved one’s care.

"Formal and pricey, but friendly tour. Not a good fit."

The virtual tour of Brookdale looked nice, but the first impression felt a bit stiff and formal, with a strong "sales" pitch. [Name removed] was friendly and welcoming, which made me feel they genuinely wanted to help. If you’re willing to spend more and prefer a formal setting, this place could be great. However, my uncle prefers a more casual environment. It’s also much more expensive, beyond my uncle’s budget. I almost gave it a 5-star rating, but I hesitated because it felt too sales-focused rather than like a potential home for my uncle. The guide did a good job showing me around.

"Brookdale The Heights Needs Better Communication and Clear Leadership"

My family member stayed at Brookdale The Heights for a while, but it didn't work well for him. They need to communicate better and have clear leaders. I wouldn't tell others to choose this place.

"Great Value and Fun Activities for Residents"

The cost for this place is really worth it. They have fun activities like cowboy day and puzzles to keep everyone busy. The staff work really hard, even though they might be stretched thin sometimes. They always try their best with the residents.

"Disappointed by Damaged, Not Well-Kept Assisted Living Facility"

I visited the place after Harvey hit, and I saw flood and roof damage. Apart from this, I felt that the center wasn't well-maintained, which makes me question the quality of care the residents get there. Unfortunately, I was let down.

"Satisfied with Brookdale The Heights but some areas need improvement"

Overall, I'm happy with my family member's time at Brookdale The Heights. The office workers could be better at customer service and checking in with families. However, the rest of the staff is nice. The food always seems tasty and healthy. The place is really clean. They have plenty of fun stuff for the residents to do. And it's great that it's near my house!

"Caring staff and great environment for loved ones’ care"

When we visited this place for my sister, the staff were very caring. The community was clean, and the surroundings were pleasant. We liked the menu with good meal options. They also have activities for residents who can join. We would recommend this community to other families for their loved ones' care.

"A Caring and Enjoyable Place to Live"

The staff here has worked hard to make sure my loved one is happy and well-cared for. The food is tasty, and the place is kept clean and nice. They also provide fun activities every day. I would definitely recommend this community.

"Friendly Staff, Lacking Kitchen Amenities"

I visited the place yesterday. The workers were friendly. I noticed residents engaged in fun activities, and it appears they could be quite hospitable. However, microwaves and small fridges are stored on shelves, and there's no counter or sink in sight.

"Disappointing Care at Costly Assisted Living Institution"

My mom or dad has to pay way too much to live in this home. There are some great workers, but others that management should not have hired. It seems like the people in charge aren't choosing the right employees. Also, they should only hire caregivers that speak English as their first language. It's not fair to make old people who might already have trouble talking, struggle to understand staff who barely know English. The food they serve is awful for what it costs-- my family member has just quit complaining about it, since it didn't help. I wouldn't serve anyone this kind of food, especially someone who has certain things they can't eat. If you're in business to give homes to elderly people, you should be able to provide decent food, given the money the people living there are paying. More rules and inspections should be done to make sure these homes are doing what they should for the people living there. Every day, my loved one pays about half the cost of a night stay in a hospital. In return, they get way less care and attention than they should. There's no real doctor around. Many of the caregivers don't know enough about medical stuff. The nurse doesn't answer when we try to reach her. We're told to be ready for any serious medical problems because this place can't handle it. We've seen bugs in the living areas. They don't have enough staff, so they bring in workers from other places who don't care about the people living there. As for housekeeping, it doesn't seem to be happening. The bathroom areas are always dirty. This place might be better than others in Houston, but for what it costs, it's closer to bad than excellent. Before choosing a place, people must pay attention to the bad reviews and use their heads when reading them. People write reviews because they want to let the business know something's wrong. This business doesn't care about unhappy customers. This place is just taking people's money. The care they give for the money paid is not good at all. Whoever's getting rich running this company should be embarrassed.

"Not the right fit due to cost."

My visit to Brookdale The Heights went well. The staff was friendly, and they even assessed my mom. However, they were pricier.

"Inconsistent Medication, But Enjoyable Activities"

My husband had a decent respite stay at this community. The only issue we encountered was their inconsistency in providing his medication on time. The community appeared clean, and they provided sheets and towels. Unfortunately, the food options were limited and not always good. On the bright side, they offered activities, which he enjoyed participating in.

"Positive Stay"

My mom had a really nice time while she stayed at this place. She's not here anymore because she got better and went home. She had a few small issues, but overall, I know she was well taken care of. The meals made her very happy. Overall, it's a community I'd suggest.

"Great Respite Stay with Caring Staff and Balanced Meals"

My uncle had a good short stay at this community. I felt comfortable with his time there; everything went well. The staff was great, very caring and attentive. They encouraged him to join some activities they offer. The meals were nice and balanced. I would use this community’s respite service again. I was happy with everything they did for us and would recommend this community.

"Pleasant Community!"

We visited Brookdale The Heights but chose not to stay there. It wasn't because there was anything wrong with the place; it simply came down to the distance. The location wasn't ideal for us, but the facility itself was quite pleasant. The staff were all friendly.

"Great Care and Fun Activities Here"

This is a friendly place with great care. The staff is really attentive, and they offer fun activities. I would definitely recommend it for excellent care.

"Friendly staff with great care and meal options!"

Mom is doing well since moving to Brookdale The Heights. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Karen, the LPN, has been great with Mom's care. She is nurturing and caring. I am happy with the care they are giving. They have good meal choices and have helped Mom with her diet. The staff is proactive and handles any issues quickly.

"A Reliable Home for Mom"

My mom's doing okay at this place. Some things need fixing up. Mostly, it's kept nice. Some workers are better than others. Mom's still pretty independent, so she doesn't need too much help. But overall, I trust they're taking good care of her. I'd tell others about this place.

"Great staff, clean place, and good food!"

The two people we talked to before my mom moved in were really helpful. They made everything easier for us. They also keep me updated on how my mom is doing. The place is clean, and the food is usually pretty good. I would recommend this place for people who are mostly independent. The staff do a good job of encouraging my mom to join in activities and meet others.

"Great Place with Friendly Staff and Fun Activities"

The community is well-kept, and I didn't see any issues. The staff are friendly and caring, with no complaints from me. My dad didn’t complain about his meals, so I guess they’re good. There are activities to join, and Dad enjoyed playing dominoes when he could. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

"Friendly staff and great location in the Heights"

The staff at Brookdale are super friendly and helpful. The location is awesome too, right in the Heights near 290 and 610. The studio apartments are a good size, and my mom says she’s really happy there - which is the most important thing! Her only complaint is that she doesn’t like the food, but I think it’s just because they have too many healthy options.

"Deficient Supervision At Assisted Living Facility"

This assisted living facility lacks a solid leadership figure. The staff seems overwhelmed yet not adequately busy. They're all really nice and try to help, but my loved one struggles when seeking help for even the simplest of things. It takes forever for her to get help when she pulls her call button in her room, and it's the same story when she's waiting for her food at mealtime. I'm worried she's not getting the care she needs. The folks managing the place are aware of these problems and are working to solve them. However, I need a quicker solution for my loved one's well-being, so I'm considering a different Brookdale that's closer to my home.

"Bright Spot with Room for Improvement - Brookdale Assisted Living"

Our time at Brookdale has had its ups and downs. The place is really nice; it's clean, the food is good, and the people who work there are really friendly and patient, even though things haven't been easy for us. My family member was put in a care level that was too low for her needs, which wasn't all the facility's fault because she's really good at hiding her memory issues. But, the folks in charge of helping her aren't quite getting it right yet. They're doing their best but it's been tough. Plus, their billing department has been a bit of a headache. I was told it would cost a certain amount, but then they sent me a bill for way more. They said they knew it was a mistake and would send a new one, but I'm still waiting for it. This has really messed up things with our insurance, and I wish the situation had been handled better. If we can get my family member into more suitable care and sort out the billing stuff, I'm sure things will get better.

"Active involvement amidst clean, friendly environment at The Heights."

My mom and dad have been at Brookdale The Heights for a week. The place is clean and they keep it up-to-date. The staff is nice but you have to make an effort to talk to them. As for the cost, it's about the same as other places I looked into. I haven't had much experience with the care services or activities yet. Talking to the residents is awesome. Everyone has a story to tell and a lot of them need company. I've gotten to know the residents in my parent's building and they are all so sweet. I plan to get involved at The Heights.

"Decent Staff; Average Facilities and Food"

The construction of this place is not the best. The floors make noise and the walls are super thin. But the people who work here are nice. Especially, the nurses are good at their job and they're easy to talk to. The things to do here are improving, but still not too many options. The food is just okay, nothing exceptional. The van driver is such a lovely and supportive person.

"Great job, clean place, friendly staff, food could improve"

They're doing a great job here. The place is clean, and the staff is friendly. They could improve how they work with outside services and make sure everyone is on the same page. The food is good—nutritious and tasty, though some dishes are better than others. I’d rate the food a 4 out of 5. I appreciate that when they learned about her preferences, they started doing things her way without her asking. We chose this location over another Brookdale because it's easier for visitors to come by.

"Decent, but with several minor problems"

We stayed there for some time, it wasn't awful or anything, but there were a bunch of small issues. I'd show up, and the beds wouldn't be made, and overall it just wasn't that great. We had stayed at another Brookdale before, and we liked it more there.

""No Sarah at Helena; Expensive Private Studio with Limited Discount""

They offer a private studio for $3600, with $1000 off each month for a year and a half. Still pretty pricey.

5/5.00 Published 10 years ago

"Has a promo right now, for 30 more days, but didn't get exact end date."

The current promotion offers a $1,000 monthly discount for 18 months. An assisted living studio, which provides the highest level of care (perfect for Dad), is normally $5,600/month. With the promo, it's $4,600/month for 18 months. Keep in mind that you'll need to add the cost of disposable products, as is the case with other places. Additionally, there's an option for a combo room—essentially two studios combined—which would cost around $7,460/month, plus an extra $1,120/month for a second person. Helena, the contact person, recommended the combo room, and Martha could move in later if desired. For visits, it provides more space.

"Nice community, but seemed less social"

We visited this place while searching for care options for our loved one. We were impressed by what we saw and almost chose it as our second option if the first didn't work out. The only downside was that it felt a bit empty and less social compared to other places we toured.

"Great Staff but Complicated Medication Rules"

Everything is going great. The sales process is a bit tricky, and they make us jump through hoops for her to give herself medicine. The people who work there are great, and the food is good. If you need to self-medicate, this might not be the place for you. They won’t let you use weekly pill boxes; you have to be able to read the labels and expiration dates, so you need really good eyes. There’s no doctor on site, so there isn’t much nursing care. If they don’t give her medicine, they won’t take her blood pressure. Some of the staff are so fabulous. The cook did a great job with her birthday party. The people there are fabulous! There are some other issues, but the people are fabulous.

"Everyone is welcoming"

The Hampton at Pinegate was mostly picked because of its location. I felt comfortable there—the building isn't too tall. The single rooms and suites are similar to others I've seen, maybe even bigger. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. However, I've heard that the nutritionist might need to adjust the menu for the cooks. They often serve high-sodium dishes like pepperoni pizza or potato chips. Since most seniors are sensitive to sodium, I hope they add lower-sodium options.

"Great location, safe, clean, and full of activities"

This place has a fantastic location, is very safe and clean, and feels welcoming. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone engaged. I had a really nice visit, and the atmosphere was full of positive energy. The residents looked happy, active, and comfortable. They provide physical therapy and all the services T needs. Plus, there's an option to move T to the memory care unit next door if necessary.

This place is really nice with great care and allows you to stay here as you get older.

"“Spotless Facility with Essential Amenities”"

This place was super tidy and had everything you need. The rooms weren’t huge, but you could make them bigger if you paid extra.
