"Mixed feelings about Brookdale: Clean facility but lacking in staff"

There are both positives and negatives to Brookdale. It looks nice and stays clean, but the food choices aren't very good, and there's never enough staff to help everyone. Residents often need assistance and complain frequently. Personally, I've been quite unhappy and gained 20 pounds because the food isn't up to par. This seems to be a common sentiment among residents.

"Rooms Need Brightening"

The community was just okay. The rooms felt dark, and we wished for something brighter.

"Declining care, hygiene issues, unresponsive staff."

Mom's care declined, issues with hygiene, lack of responsiveness from staff.

""Wheelchair-Filled Entrance Disappoints""

The front entrance looked nice with lots of flowers, but there were several people sitting in wheelchairs. It felt like a nursing home, and I wasn't impressed.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Promised Care"

At first, we told them about my parents' memory problems. They said they could help. But after six months, things got worse. They couldn't give the care they needed. The nurse would say mean things about my parents. She wouldn't check my dad's blood sugar every day. We had to move them somewhere better.

"Brookdale Waxachie: Compassionate Care for Dementia"

We’re really glad you pointed us to Brookdale in Waxachie. The big worries we had at the last place aren’t a problem here. My mom’s in the last stage of dementia, but she’s getting top-notch care. The staff here are super kind and attentive.

"Convenient extras like laundry & cleaning services, but far away."

The place is far away and it's okay. They do your laundry and clean your house sometimes.

"Nice Amenities but Too Far Away"

This place is good, offering extra stuff like laundry and cleaning services, but it's just too far away.

"Friendly staff, tight security."

I had a great chat with the staff. Security at the entrance was top-notch.

"Impressive Assisted Living Facility with Friendly Staff and Comfortable Atmosphere"

We talked with and visited the facility, both for assisted living and memory care. I liked how friendly everyone was – both the staff and the residents. What's even better, the place felt really cozy. They mentioned they organize more activities outside the facility compared to Buffalo Creek nearby or Midtowne in Midlothian. The place was clean, and the hallways were spacious. I was really impressed.

"Facility Lacks Room and Proper Arrangements"

I had a tough time scheduling a visit to check out the home. When I finally got to look around, it felt more like a nursing home instead of an assisted living facility. They didn't separate the residents living with Alzheimer's from those who needed assistance. The walkways were pretty tight, not quite the roomy place I hoped for.

"Explore Other Options: Friendly Staff, No Medicaid Accepted"

When I went to check out this place, it seemed really nice. The people who worked there were all really nice to me. But then I found out they don't take Medicaid. We ended up picking another place because we liked it better.

"Clean, Friendly Community!"

The community tour went smoothly. The guide was friendly and knew a lot. The place looked clean and pleasant. However, it's farther from my home than I'd prefer.

"Outstanding community; great staff, food, and activities. Highly recommended."

This is an excellent community. The staff is wonderful, and the food is very good with lots of variety. The activities are outstanding, and my mom is now very active, which is great. I highly recommend this community for its excellent care and value.

"Comfortable and Caring Community!"

I’m really happy with this community; it’s a great place for my loved one. The living environment is very comfortable and calm. The food is healthy and has many options. The housekeeping and nursing staff are excellent and make sure my mom’s needs are taken care of and that she’s happy.

"Working Out Well"

My dad's doing pretty well since moving here. The community is clean, and the staff is always available. There are plenty of activities for him to try out, although he thinks they feed him too much. Overall, things are good, and I'd recommend this place.

"clean and friendly, too pricey"

The place is really clean, and the caregivers are awesome. But they don't do many activities, and it's quite expensive.

"Mixed feelings: Mom's care satisfactory, but improvements needed"

My mom has been living here for a week. The food seems nice, and there are activities for her to do. The place looks clean, which is good. But sometimes when I come to pick her up, she seems a bit messy, like her hair is dirty and she's not put together well. I think they need more staff to help out. Overall, Mom seems happy, but there's definitely room for improvement.

"Not Entirely Satisfied with Assisted Living Facility"

We're not too thrilled with this place. Getting a doctor's attention for them isn't easy. Initially, we were told a doctor would come weekly, which is technically true. However, each resident only gets to see the doctor once every quarter, besides emergencies. The residents are friendly and the place is kept tidy. We picked it hoping it would tick all our boxes. Though, there's still a sense that I need to be present daily to ensure everything promised is done.

"Nice place!"

We visited this community while exploring senior living options for a family member. Brookdale Waxahachie looked really nice overall! The facility was clean, bright, and well-maintained, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely consider it for our loved one when the time comes.

"Makes My Father Feel Important and Valued"

My father is very happy here. The staff work hard to make him feel important. He used to play Santa every year, so they asked him to dress up as Santa for Christmas. There's even a photo of him in the main lounge. They also have him lead a Bible study on Tuesdays, since he’s a retired pastor. Feeling useful matters a lot to us, especially for older men.

"Great place with friendly staff and clean facilities."

I think they’re doing a really good job. The place is very clean, and the staff are nice and attentive. They respond quickly to any needs. I haven’t had any issues with the food; in fact, I ate there myself recently and enjoyed it, so I might go back more often. The only small thing is that they could be more available at the door since it’s a secure facility. I know they’re busy, so it’s not a big deal for me. Overall, I’m very happy with them.

Sterling House is great!

"ClaireBridge Assisted Living: Disappointing and Understaffed"

ClaireBridge - Thumbs down. They made big promises. The food was terrible, wouldn't have touched it. They really needed more people on the team. The staff was nice and offered a variety of activities. However, you had to practically grow old waiting to get in through the front door and it was a long wait for help to reach your room if you pulled the alarm. They couldn't seem to hold on to their staff. Keep searching.

"Great place, pricey but convenient, good food!"

Overall, this place is great! The price is a bit high, so I gave it a lower rating for that. However, this location is perfect for our family since it's close by. He also says he likes the food, which is a plus

"Very Helpful"

hey were super helpful. Unfortunately, they didn't have the room we needed, and my family didn't agree on that location. Still, the place was nice and clean. It wasn't as fancy as another spot, but I don't think our folks would have been as comfy there.

"Concerns About Quality of Care"

We visited this facility because we knew someone whose mom lived there. She had been pleased with it until the start of the year. That's when she decided to take her mom out because she felt the level of care was lacking. The staff were trying to move her mom to the Alzheimer's area, which wasn't an issue, until she felt her mom's needs weren't being met anymore. Regardless, we still went to check it out. The place was spotless and a few people we met were friendly. But we decided not to place our mom there.

"Some Hurdles at Start, Overall Grandma's Experience is Positive"

My grandmother had a couple hiccups when she first moved in here. She needed help one night and used the call button, but help didn't arrive for half an hour. That was kind of scary since they only have two staff members working at nights, the bare minimum required by the state. The staff claimed they didn't know anyone was in her room, which was a bit unsettling. The manager didn't like that at all and gave us his personal cell number in case something else happened. Mom got into a little tiff with one of the ladies there when she found out my mom had talked to the manager. Aside from that, most of their staff are really nice and always ready to lend a hand. I also think my grandmother would appreciate it if they had more activities, they currently only have bingo, poker, and the occasional arts and crafts.

"Friendly Staff, Food Could Be Better"

My mom doesn't really need a lot of care right now, so it does seem a bit pricey. The extra services are even more expensive, and I'm not sure if there's a way to improve the value or price. The food and cleaning could be better. I won't say they leave her room dirty, but either myself or a friend wipes things down and picks up every day. They claim to do a deep clean once a week, but I'm not convinced. I need to talk to them about it. The staff is definitely friendly. Unlike other places, they don't hesitate to let us talk to the residents; it's like they're not afraid of what they might say. Sterling House doesn't have that issue. My mom is still adjusting, but she likes it. She's started participating in activities like art sessions, coffee talk times, and exercise.

"Top Choice for Memory Care, But Floor Plans Are Small"

This is our top pick right now. My sister really likes that they offer both memory care and assisted living. The staff is friendly, and the people living there seem really happy. The only downside is that the floor plans are quite small, so we are still looking.

"Pleasant, Engaged Residents, and Room for Improvement"

Our visit to Sterling House was really nice. We were there for over three hours but could have stayed longer if we hadn’t needed to leave. We never felt rushed. When we arrived, Megan greeted us warmly and was ready for us. She chatted with us for a few minutes in the lobby, then took us to the private dining room, where she had set up a table for the three of us. She asked if we wanted some residents to join us for lunch, and we said yes. She quickly set up the table for two more people and invited a couple of ladies to join us. We had a great conversation during lunch. The ladies were open and honest with their thoughts, and Megan let them answer questions instead of answering for them. One concern that came up was that they don’t have alert necklaces for the residents. One resident mentioned she had fallen and couldn’t reach the pull cord in her room, so she had to wait on the floor until someone checked on her. (Buffalo Creek was the only place we visited so far that had these necklaces for all residents. The food was good, though not great. We had pork chops with an apple chutney sauce, which had bones in them. I thought bones weren’t a good idea for elderly people, as I ended up with one in my mouth and had to spit it out, and one of the residents did too. There were noodles, squash, a small salad, a roll, and chocolate pie for dessert. Everything was good. Jamie also came in to meet us during lunch and chatted for a few minutes. The activities director also came by, talked about some of the activities, and showed us crafts the residents recently made, which got them talking about their enjoyment of the activities. After lunch, we toured the facility. Everywhere we went, we saw staff interacting with residents. Although we did see some residents who looked sad and lonely, overall, it seemed like the residents were engaged and the staff was involved with them. We saw the activities director again, gathering residents for a walk and later sitting on the porch with a group, enjoying the outdoors and chatting. When we left, a group was playing bingo. The rooms were nice but nothing special just like other facilities we’ve visited. We also looked at the Memory Care section, which was impressive. They had opened it only about 6-7 months ago, but it didn’t feel depressing like other places we’ve seen. Megan was comfortable with us interacting with the residents, and the residents enjoyed it. We talked to a group of ladies coloring, a woman with her Bible who prayed for my friend, and saw a group watching TV. There was a man with late-stage Alzheimer’s walking the hall. Megan told us that one of the last skills to go in Alzheimer’s is the nurturing instinct, and they use baby dolls to engage him. He responded by cooing and talking to the doll, which was amazing to see.
