"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
The staff who cared for our loved one day to day, including the kitchen team, were fantastic. However, the management staff was disappointing. We felt alone after moving in, and their customer service needs improvement. The facility itself also requires repairs.

"Inconsistent Care at Assisted Living: A Mixed Experience"
I think some of the bosses at the nursing place are helpful. But, after my relative shifted to another part of the community, it was hard to talk to anyone. Her injuries got worse before they bothered to fix them.

"Neglect Leads to Injury, Death at Assisted Living Facility"
If you love your family, don't use this place. My mom was here. They didn't take care of her and she got hurt twice. They didn't tell me, the hospice, or the people in charge, and they didn't even write it down like they're supposed to. When I went to see her, I could tell she was hurting and upset. I checked her over and saw a big bruise on her leg. I asked a helper what happened and she said she found my mom on the floor in her room screaming. She didn't do anything else except put her back in bed and didn't tell anyone. We got her an x-ray and found out she broke her hip. My mom was in bed for 17 HOURS with no help, no pain meds, or any kind of medical stuff. We had her go on crisis care and 5 days later she was gone. I told the State Health Services about it and they agreed with me and gave the place a citation. And the same thing happened to another person right before it happened to my mom. It wasn't a one-time thing. You can check the Health and Human Services and D.A.D.S website to see all their citations. Please use a different place for your family.

"Poor Communication and Care at Assisted Living Facility"
I honestly can't recommend this place. When we first visited, everyone was super kind and good at communicating. But this didn't last long -- it soon became a major challenge to get any information. It felt overcrowded because there were so many staff members, but I could never get a clear answer from anyone. We had actually planned for my mom, who was recovering from surgery, to move into the assisted living strand of the facility. Yet as time went on, her health started to worsen. I noticed she wasn't eating, something the staff failed to make note of or communicate to us. Eventually, we had to rush her to an ER, where they quickly found numerous issues with her health. This came as a shock, as Brookdale had supposedly conducted similar tests just two days earlier - the results of which we've been waiting for three months now. Communication at Brookdale is beyond frustrating. I dread to think about people without a personal advocate checking in daily. Despite all this, I must say, many of the nurses were great and would share information about Mom's condition - but only when asked and only for their specific shift. It seems like upper management and between-shift communication is the issue here.

"Caregivers diligent, but communication and medication management problematic."
My mother-in-law stayed at this place from December 2013 until she passed away in March 2018 after having a stroke there. During her entire stay, the phone system was terrible. The person who answered the phone didn't know who the staff were or which extension to transfer calls to. The higher-ups never returned our calls or emails. Even after meeting with new staff members, who changed often, we were promised better communication, but it never improved. The caregivers tried their best with the residents, but the biggest problem was with medication. Despite paying for medication management, it was constantly mishandled. We'd check and find medication missing or the wrong kind ordered. It got so frustrating that we considered moving her elsewhere, but with her Alzheimer's, we worried about her adjusting. Overall, I won't ever send another family member to a Brookdale facility.

"Mismanagement and Failed Communication at Assisted Living Facility"
My mother-in-law lived at this place until she died in following a stroke that occurred there. The entire time, their phone setup was just ridiculous. It seemed like the person who answered didn’t know who worked there or which extension to send you to. I was also frustrated because their middle and top-level staff just never responded to calls or emails. Even after they hired new staff - which happened a lot - and promised better communication, we saw no improvement. Now, the actual caregivers did their best. But the biggest issue was definitely with the medicine. Despite paying for medication management, there were constant problems. Medicine would be “lost” or the home would order her old prescriptions when the doctor changed them. Other times, they would order new meds way too early. We thought about moving her so many times due to the constant headaches, but we worried about the toll a change might take on her because she had Alzheimer's. I can tell you now, I'll never put another family member in one of these places.

"A Wonderful Place for Loved Ones"
Everyone at Brookdale has been very professional, helpful, and respectful. I am very happy they are taking care of my family member. I know I can trust them to care for her like their own family. I would totally recommend Brookdale to anyone who needs help with their loved one’s health and welfare.

"Harrowing Experience of Alzheimer's Care at Misleading Facility"
My mom got Alzheimer's in 2016 and we moved her to this facility that same year. Right from the start, we realized we were fooled. I thought it was a good choice at first because someone I knew had a positive experience at a different spot. Unfortunately, we were rushed and couldn't spend more time looking for a better place. As advised, we had paid upfront for a room. But when it was time to take her from rehab to here, they moved her into their long-term care area first. She had to stay there too long and it was only after I began asking questions that they moved her to her room. My dad had to pay for this room despite the fact my mom wasn't even living there - their cunning way of not charging him for her care. They required us to bring in essentials (diapers, tissues, toilet rolls, furniture, and more), billed us for everything, and seemed to only raise my mom's medication dosage just to keep her subdued. This overmedication led to multiple falls that resulted in hospital trips, even surgeries, and she could barely keep her eyes open! They never missed a chance to raise their rates. After coping with a host of accidents that caused my mom’s broken hip, fractured pelvis, and stitched-up arm cut, we decided to leave. Once moved out, her new care facility took her off all the extra medications and she eventually regained enough energy to talk with us. This was truly wonderful, as not long after that, her disease progressed faster and she couldn't recognize us within two months, passing away a month later. If you have a loved one with Alzheimer's, every moment is precious as you may never know if they'll remember you the next time you visit. I suggest choosing a small, privately-owned facility if possible.

"Cherish Time; Beware Institutional Assisted Living."
My mom who suffers from Alzheimer's moved into this facility in August 2016 after having been in rehab. We felt hurried into choosing this place, due to some personal recommendations. From the get-go, our experience was disappointing. We had to pay for her room right from the start, but she was placed in extended care instead. Only after I started questioning, did they finally move her to her room. The system seemed unfair as my dad was paying for the room already, though they didn't charge for the care. We had to supply everything from furniture to toiletries, and faced surprise charges often. Likewise, they kept increasing her medication dosages, which kept her disoriented. This caused many accidents including falls which led to hospital visits and surgeries. With a heavy heart, we decided to move her elsewhere following a series of accidents like a fractured pelvis, broken hip, and an arm wound needing stitches. In her new place, they stopped many of the medications which led to her being able to converse again for a short time before she sadly passed away. My advice, cherish the time you have with your Alzheimer’s-stricken loved ones; you never know when they might forget who you are. Choose a small, privately-owned facility if possible.

"Cozy Place, but Privacy Concerns in Shared Rooms"
The Brookdale Willowbrook Place was our top choice during the tour, but we were concerned about the lack of privacy in the shared rooms. Everything else was great, though; it had a cozy, home-like atmosphere and the location was perfect for us.

"My Spouse and I Enjoy Good Care Here"
My spouse and me stay at this neat assisted living center. The folks who run it are really top-notch and so nice. The food around here could be a little better though. Every day, they got something for us to do. This place is kept really clean and it's all well-maintained. We're happy with the help and care we get here. It would be great if others could find out about the good stuff this place provides for folks like us.

"Great for Independent Elderly, Less So for Needier Cases"
Our elderly relative lived at this place for over a year. It's in a good spot and looks great after getting renovated recently. The place is designed for people who can still do a lot on their own. If you're one of those people, this spot might work for you. You get your own room, meals, and plenty of things to do for a decent price. The activity schedule is full of different things each day. They also host a few big parties every year and invite the families. But if you need more help, things can get pricey fast. We didn't feel like our relative was getting the extra help we were paying for. They have about two helpers per building, and that didn't seem like enough. Things were different at first. The staff used to make sure everyone was okay, but then a lot of people left or switched jobs. Some helpers are great and the first nurses we met were really nice. But right around the time we left, a lot was changing. I don't know how it is there now. Every place has its ups and downs, and this one is no different. If you don't need a lot of help, this might be a good fit for you. There are plenty of things to do, meals are provided, and you can come and go as you please. You can also have visitors anytime. But if your loved one needs more help, consider a memory care facility. They offer more help than an assisted living place but less than a nursing home.

"Mom loves socializing and feels well cared for here"
My mom was hesitant about moving to Brookdale Willowbrook Place, but now she's really happy here. She loves spending time with others her age. At first, we had some trouble getting the staff to follow up on what we needed for her move. Once we got everything sorted out, things went smoothly. It would be helpful if they checked in a month before the move to make sure everything is ready. We had to rush at the last minute to get everything done. But now, Mom is getting excellent care here.

"Brookdale is great: caring staff, fun activities, and safety"
We are really happy with Brookdale; it’s a nice place. She gets excellent care and has joined in on some of the fun activities. We're very satisfied with the facility—they've done everything right. The food is healthy, although it’s not always what she prefers. They had the best offer we found. We also liked that they have a courtyard that’s both open and screened, so she can be safe while enjoying the outdoors and watching the birds.

"Dissatisfied with Staff Organization at Assisted Living Facility"
I wasn't happy with how they arranged the staff responsibilities. Evidently, they have a handful of professionals spanning their two buildings, but only one individual oversees activities, kitchen tasks, and such. This gal certainly juggled a lot of roles. She was upbeat and seemed passionate about her job. Unfortunately, this place doesn't match our needs.

They're very kind to her. She fell and broke her hip, so we're moving her to the dementia unit. I like where they're located. She has early dementia, and I think she's happy. She needs more care, and I'm okay with that. We're trying to find the right fit for her to stay there. My only complaint is that they put her on restorative care without telling me. "“Quiet and Nice Assisted Living”"
It was another really nice place. In the Assisted Living areas, the hallways were quieter than in Terrace. They had nice prints for ‘old people.’ The rooms had a fridge and microwave if you wanted them. I didn’t like the shared rooms in the memory care unit—I saw a woman trying to get out of her bed, and no one was around. The staff was called, but there’s a definite difference between Assisted Living and Memory Care. Overall, I liked it a lot. The gardening and balcony area were great.
