"Facility Falls Short on Medical Evaluation, Disappoints Family Expectations"
This place isn't doing so well in our book. They really need to up their game in how they check people's health. They weren't able to give our family member the level of care she needed, but they still took her in.

"Positive Changes Improve Assisted Living Experience"
The assisted living facility staff know our dad and seem to care about him. There's minimal turnover among caregivers, but leadership has changed three times in 13 months. The kitchen and maintenance staff have also seen turnover. Overall, it's good value, and the newest manager is making positive changes.

"Disappointing Experience: Limited Activities, Frustrating Security Measures"
We're unsure about the activities; our loved one didn't participate. We never saw a schedule. Not good for active seniors. Our loved one felt confined, frustrated by the long wait at the front door. He doesn't have dementia, so excessive security felt unnecessary and caused frustration. It might suit families needing high security, but not for my dad.

"Poor Care and Broken Emergency Cord at Cedar Hills"
In 2018, I moved my mom into Cedar Hills, and honestly, the care she gets is way worse than what they promised us. The price every month isn't as high as in some other places. The person who was in charge, the Executive Director, just took off after less than a year working there. The emergency pull cord in my mom's room hasn't been working for more than 2 months now. We had to complain twice about the staff but they did fix things fast. The food's not that good for you. I'm not keeping my mom here long-term because they're not taking proper care of her.

"Overall positive experience with minor communication issues."
The staff is friendly, but communication about changes could improve. The community is small, and my dad enjoys his room. I recommend it.

"Dad's Adjusting Well at This Assisted Living Facility"
The people who work here are friendly, and my dad seems to be getting used to it. However, there have been a few times when he missed his shower because of a change in the schedule, and I wish they would let me know about these changes. Also, when I suggest something different or notice something not done, I feel like I'm treated differently. It's a small place. They clean his bathroom every day and tidy up if needed, and he enjoys being in his room. The outdoor area is nice. I just want to make sure the staff are doing their jobs. Overall, I'd recommend this place.

"5 stars for this wonderful community"
The staff is great, and my mother-in-law really likes the caregivers. They encourage her to join in on the daily activities. The food is delicious, and they keep the place clean. I would recommend this community.

"Friendly staff and great activities for residents"
My loved one’s stay here is going great! The staff is super friendly and the place looks nice. I like that they let my loved one go out to smoke at set times, which works really well for him. There are also lots of chances for him to join activities and make friends! From what I’ve seen, this is a really nice place!

"Good Place to Stay"
My family member likes it here! The workers are nice and the place looks good. They let him smoke at specific times, which he likes. He gets to do stuff and meet people too! Looks like a good place!

"Community Falls Short in Care and Cleanliness"
This community wasn't good. The food was terrible and cold. The coffee was also cold. There are many residents with Alzheimer's, and it seems the community has declined in recent years. Our loved one's room wasn't kept clean. It appears they lacked the funds to care for the community. Some staff were nice, but others weren't.

"Poor Food and Service at this Declining Assisted Living Facility'"
This assisted living place wasn't good at all. The meals were nasty and always served cold. Even the coffee was cold. There are many residents living here with Alzheimer's, but it feels like the quality of the facility has drastically dropped recently. They didn't keep our family member's room clean. It seems they're short on funds to properly maintain the place. While some of the staff were kind, others were not.

"Homey Atmosphere"
This place was really nice. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they knew a lot about the community. But it felt more like a group home, which wasn't what we wanted for my mother-in-law.

The tour was great and the staff knew a lot and showed us around. We knew about this place from a friend who said it was good. The community was nice. We just wanted mom to be closer to us.

"Okay Tour, Not Perfect for Husband"
My tour of this place was okay overall. Most parts of this place seemed clean and pleasing, but I saw some spots that could use some work. The people working there were friendly though. It was a decent enough tour, although it wasn't the best fit for my husband.

"Friendly Staff in Clean, But Small Living Community!"
The Brookdale Cedar Hill is neat and tidy. It's pretty small, and we were hoping for something larger. The people who work there were nice, and they answered all of my questions during my visit.

"Consider Brookdale for long-term care, not multiple short stays."
Brookdale is a nice place that could be good for taking care of someone for a while. Right now, we're trying to find a place that can help us for more than just a few short times.

"Kind Staff, But Poor Organization"
The place was really messy. They didn't stick to their plans for activities or meals. They didn't have a welcome packet for new folks with a meal plan or activity calendar. They said it was in the dining room. They didn't follow the activity plan. Once, they planned a welcome party, I went, but it didn't happen. They said they forgot. They didn't even know how to make a bed right, the sheets were put on wrong. They were nice and kind, but just too messy.

"Assisted Living Facilities Fall Short Due to Poor Organization"
This place really lacked organization. They consistently failed to stick to their scheduled events and meals. There was no welcome packet for new residents with a food menu or listing of recreational activities. They just pointed me to the dining room and said it was posted there. They didn't even follow the activity schedule, like once when a welcome party was planned and then didn't happen. They just said they forgot! Also, they couldn't put sheets on beds correctly as they left them on sideways. They were actually nice people, but they were just super disorganized.

"Concerning Experience at Sterling House Cedar Hill "
At first, everything was fine with Sterling House in Cedar Hill, Texas. However, in the three months my aunt has been living there, the quality of care has significantly decreased. One night, after my aunt had gone to bed, she had a fall and ended up lying on the floor for seven hours before the day staff discovered her. She hurt herself attempting to stand up again. The emergency pull cord was out of her reach and despite a supposed two-hourly check system, no one discovered her plight for a full seven hours. The standard of food has been disappointing. Dinners of corn dogs and bologna sandwiches have been served to the residents (though not in the same meal), and often, the food served is hard to identify. The cleanliness of her apartment has been far from satisfactory, with the same bed sheets remaining unchanged for three weeks. My aunt has also gone for up to nine days without a shower. The facility has started to distribute questionnaires to residents and their families. Hopefully, this indicates some changes are on the way. I must commend the caregivers for their kindness, helpfulness, and compassion even while being understaffed and dealing with a high staff turnover.

"Needs Improvement: Aunt's care lacking, food and hygiene issues persist."
Unless this place changes, I wouldn't recommend it. My aunt fell at night and no one checked on her for seven hours. She couldn't get up, was hurt, and couldn't reach the emergency cord. The food is not great - sometimes it's just hot dogs or bologna sandwiches with salad. I don't think they cook in the kitchen, it seems like the food is made elsewhere. My aunt should shower twice a week but recently went 9 days without one. Also, they don't clean well - her bed linens weren't changed for 3 weeks. Maybe they're short-staffed or have a lot of turnover, but some issues might be getting addressed. The caregivers are nice and professional though. If management makes changes, it would be better for everyone.

"Serious Changes Needed for Assisted Living Community's Improvement"
Unless they can improve, I wouldn't recommend this assisted living community. My aunt resides there and had a bad fall at night. Unfortunately, she was alone and unable to get back up for seven hours. She couldn't reach the emergency cord and sustained injuries. On top of that, the food quality is rather disappointing. It often seems like they just serve hot dogs, bologna sandwiches and salads. I doubt they're even cooking the food there, but rather bringing it in from somewhere else. Supposedly, my aunt is provided a shower twice a week, but there was a span of nine days when she didn't receive one. The cleanliness of her bedding is also questionable, as it wasn't changed for three weeks. I believe the community may be understaffed or dealing with a high staff turnover, which could account for these issues. I must acknowledge, however, that the caregivers have always been kind, patient and professional; they are truly a bright spot. But overall, there needs to be serious changes in management for things to improve.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
The people who take care of residents are nice. They're friendly and caring. But, we had some issues with the staff. One of them is gone now, though. I'm not sure if it's worth the money. I have to do some of the chores like laundry and cleaning. Also, the food isn't always good. My mother-in-law, who usually eats a lot, sometimes doesn't like what's served. Once, she even got sick after eating. We're thinking about moving her, but we already paid $2000 to join. She can move around in her wheelchair by herself. One night, she fell trying to go to the bathroom and no one checked on her for 7 hours. It's sad that happened, but at least the caregiver responsible is not there anymore. Overall, it's been a letdown. We have to pay extra for food and laundry, and we're worried about her safety.

"Disappointed in Care Facility, Considering Relocation"
The folks who care for the residents here are great: they're nice, they're caring, and we've honestly had no issues with them, except for this one person who doesn't work here anymore. But I'm not sure if it's worth the money. I'm still having to take care of my mother-in-law's laundry, some of the cleaning, and the food isn't up to par. My mother-in-law, who always eats well, sometimes can't even tell what the food she's served is supposed to be. She once ate what she thought was fish for lunch and ended up getting sick just an hour later. We're really considering moving her to another place, but we've already paid a $2000 community fee and it'd really be a shame if we lost that money. My mother-in-law uses a wheelchair but can move around by herself. One night, she got up to use the bathroom and fell. She was stuck on the floor for seven hours before anyone came to check on her. That's the person who's not working here anymore. It isn't the facility's fault she fell, but someone should have checked on her sooner. I'm just very let down. We're having to look after her food, laundry, and even switching her seats.

"Not Enough Staff for Individual Care"
I think they needed more staff to involve residents. Sometimes they promise more than they deliver. They should have more one-on-one support. If your loved one can join group activities, they're fine, but they struggle with individual attention. We had to hire someone to feed our family member because the staff was too busy. The activities suit certain patients if you're active, it's fun; otherwise, you're left out.

"Good for active seniors, lacking one-on-one attention"
I'm not sure they had enough staff to get more residents involved. Sometimes, what they advertise is more than what they actually do. I think they could have used more staff; they didn't have enough for individual attention. If your loved one can join group activities and get involved, they'll be fine, but they struggle with one-on-one care. We had to hire someone to feed him because everyone else was busy. The activities cater to a certain level of ability; if you're mobile and active, you'll enjoy it, but if you're not, you'll feel left out.

"Great value and care, amazing rehab results!"
This place is a great value and offers excellent care. My mom is pretty independent, so she didn't join many activities, but there were plenty of options available for her. The owner was wonderful throughout the process, helping with placement and information. My mom's rehab went so well that she could move back home. This place is fantastic!

"A Cozy Place with Disappointing End"
Quarterly family activities, like get-togethers every three months, made my family happy. The place felt calm and tidy overall. It seemed like they managed things well, plus the food was yummy and of good quality. The sitting areas were small, but cozy and friendly. The outdoor space, with a nice courtyard and grassy areas around it, was excellent. Everything seemed perfect... until we reached Horizons Grand Prairie.

This place is great for people who need a lot of help. All the residents seemed pretty weak and needed help walking. The price for assisted living is fixed, no matter how much care you need.
