Discovery Commons at Spring Creek

"Poor Care and Neglect"
Our mom lived here for three years, but things took a turn for the worse after seven months. Her sheets went unchanged for weeks, her bed was left unmade, and trash piled up on the floor. We even found moldy food on her kitchen counter! To make matters worse, we discovered they had been lying about giving her medication for almost a week. When I confronted the director, it felt like talking to a brick wall. And to top it all off, someone stole her stuff, including a bunch of toilet paper during the pandemic shortage.

"High Cost, Low Activity - This Facility Falls Short"
I've stopped by to see my friend at different times of the day and week. The place is always quiet. The room where they're supposed to do fun things is often empty. I haven't seen any signs of activities that engage their minds like music, social events, art classes, or puzzle games. No social worker is interacting with the residents during meals or in their rooms. My friend is very lonely as she's starting to forget things. Considering how much it costs to live here, I think they should plan more activities each day.

"Poor Cleanliness and Neglect at Discovery Commons: A Family's Horror"
My mom's been living in this place for almost 3 years and it's been getting worse and worse. The activities have dropped to next to nothing, I mean bingo and board games just aren't cutting it. They used to bring in entertainers a couple of times a month, but that seems to have stopped. The cleanliness in this place is just flat-out horrible. I even had to get a friend to help me clean up Mom's place. We went through her room, bathroom, and even her little kitchen area. Just last Sunday, Mom got the stomach bug that's been going round. Fast forward to a week later, and we're scrubbing dried-up puke off of her bathroom walls, toilet, floors, and trashes. I was shocked to find that no one had cleaned it up. No wonder this bug's been spreading like wildfire through the facility. The whole place took us just 2 hours to clean. No one should be having to do that. I also had to deal with three cans full of trash from yesterday. This place isn't what it used to be. I really have to say, shame on the person in charge of Discovery Commons. You're raking in the big bucks and you can't hire more than a single housekeeper? You should be paying the aides what they're worth because they're really the heart of a good home. Believe me, they're getting paid less than workers at places like Target, Walmart, and Kroger. Honestly, what a letdown Discovery Commons. You promise all these great things on your website, but you're not living up to them.

"Lack of Assistance and Poor Management at Assisted Living Facility"
This place is really bad. They don't have enough people to help out, and the managers seem all over the place. It's just not good.

"They are happy and love it here!"
We really like having my in-laws at Rittenhouse. They are very happy here. The food is great, and everyone is very helpful. The caregivers are kind and caring. There are many activities, but they're still getting used to their new home. The courtyard area is really nice, and once it cools down, they’ll enjoy sitting outside. I give them 4.5 stars and would suggest this place to my friends.

"Decent Visit to Pretty Good Care Facility"
I visited this place for my sister and for her requirements. The staff and people were kind to my family and me. The place itself was neat and tidy. The people working there were cheery and lent a hand when needed. They responded to our queries and all went smooth. The place wasn't quite right for my sister, but in all, our visit was pretty good.

"Great Tour Experience!"
I had a good time visiting this place. The staff were punctual and answered all our questions well. The layout and amenities seemed nice. It wasn't the right location for us, but I'd suggest it to others.

"Improving Communication in Assisted Living Facility"
My dad's doing great here. Lots of friends, good gender balance. Communication could improve, issues unresolved due to lack of written records. Staff is kind, helpful, and patient. Pricing is straightforward, not tiered like others. Dad loves the food. Convenient location close to family.

"Friendly staff, enjoyable activities, some food and service issues"
The staff here is nice, helpful, and cheers you on. My mom likes joining in the activities they have every day. But, she doesn't always like the food, and sometimes it takes too long to get it. She thinks they need more people working in the kitchen and dining room. The places where everyone hangs out are clean and look good. Mom's happy she has a patio behind her apartment.

"Fina Another Assisted Living"
The place was nice looking, but it just doesn't cut it. They didn't have enough staff and the ones they did have seemed to lack proper training or didn't put in enough effort. Employees kept leaving all the time. There were hardly any fun activities for my mom besides cards and puzzles, which she doesn't even enjoy. Then the hot water never seemed to be working when it was time for her bath and she always had to wait a long time for help at night because the helpers were either on break or busy with someone else. They clearly need more staff. You should really consider finding a different place for your mom.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
It's been kind of average for us so far. The place looks nice, but I do have some worries. We've had problems with getting our medicine. The room had issues, but they finally fixed it after we complained a lot. The food is terrible. When we visited, the residents seemed quiet and not very expressive. They're trying to address my concerns, but it hasn't been very smooth. On the bright side, the location is convenient, and my loved one is determined to make it work.

"Mediocre Experience But Loved One Wants to Make It Work"
Our experience here's been kinda okay up until now. The place looks really nice but I got some worries. We've had a bunch of problems with how they give out meds. There were also some problems with the room, and after we told them a bunch of times, they finally fixed it. The food is really bad. Something else we saw when we first looked around was that the people living there didn't seem too happy. They've listened to what we had to say and are trying to fix it, but things haven't been going too great. I do like where it's located for us, and it's pretty easy to get to, and my loved one really wants to make this work.

"A Caring Home for Mom"
My mom’s only been there for 16 days. I’m happy with her care. The staff’s been really nice to her, and she seems happy. Chris Morrison, the Executive Director, helped make it affordable for us. I’d recommend them to anyone for their loved ones.

"Facility's Poor Care Leads to Injury and Painful Experiences"
This place is really bad! It's been going downhill for the last half year. Almost all the Memory Care workers are brand new and don't know how to properly take care of someone with dementia, which their actions show. Our mom got hurt pretty bad and they couldn't even tell us what really happened. During the most recent meeting with families, we found out about some terrible staff problems and lack of supervision. We moved our mom, but it was too late to keep her from suffering. The workers there should feel awful. I wouldn't even want to give them a half star but the website makes me do it.

"Inadequate care for dementia patient leads to serious injury"
Terrible! This place has really fallen off the last half year. Most of the Memory Care staff are newcomers, without enough understanding on how to properly care for someone with dementia, as clearly indicated by their actions. Our mom got hurt really badly, and they couldn't even provide a proper explanation about what really went down. During the recent family meeting at the facility, we learned about dreadfully bad staffing and a complete disregard for proper supervision. We moved our mom out, but she already suffered through the pain inflicted. The workers there should feel completely embarrassed. I'd give zero stars if it was an option.

"Step Dad's Brief Stay at Winters Park Memory Care"
My step dad stayed at Winters Park Memory Care for only a week. They had some issues with him. He managed to get out even though there was a code to enter and exit, and a worker saw him and brought him back. He also had some anger problems in the late afternoon. They tried to handle it but suggested we take him to the hospital for evaluation. He's still there. Winters Park is a really good nursing home. Now, my mom is looking into getting him into a Veterans Hospital or something less expensive.

"Poor Care and Dangerous Nurse at Winters Park Assisted Living"
My sister's been at Winters Park in Garland, TX for 18 months. It's clean, but the nursing staff and doctor are bad. In January, I asked to reduce my sister's meds because she was taking too much. The head nurse said she'd tell the doctor but didn't. My sister got very sick from too many antidepressants and diuretics. Twice, when she wanted to see the doctor, the nurse didn't tell. I had to insist. The doctor found her kidneys failing and her blood pressure very low. The facility didn't believe she was sick and the nurse was mean. I asked nicely to reduce her meds, but they doubled them instead. The kidney doctor told Winters Park to stop the diuretics, but they didn't listen. Her meds were still doubled, and the nurse was rude. The manager won't fire the bad nurse. This place is dangerous. Housekeeping is bad too.

"Concerns Over Nurse Behavior and Overmedication at Assisted Living Facility"
My sister has been living at Winters Park Assisted Living in Garland, TX, for around a year and a half now. The place is pretty clean and most stuff is okay, except the nurse staff and the doctor that visit. I asked the main nurse in January if they could cut down on my sister's meds because she was taking a lot. She said she'd talk to the doctor but I never got an update, and I wasn't really keeping track of what they were ordering from the drugstore. My sister ended up getting really sick and having stomach issues due to too many mood lifters and too many water pills, making her blood basically watered down. Twice she asked to see the doctor, but the nurse didn't inform him. At last, I had to tell them she needs to see the doctor after the nurse decided she did not need to see him. When the doctor checked her out, he took a blood test and found out she was close to kidney failure. They nearly waited too long. The folks at the facility didn't accept that she had stomach issues and the nurse said some really mean things about her. The nurse said my sister was always asking for meds, but she never asked for all those water pills or for her meds to be doubled. I asked them nicely to cut the water pills and lower the other meds, but they instead doubled everything. I brought her to a kidney doctor and found out her blood pressure was dangerously low at 82/62. The kidney doctor, seeing how many water pills she was taking, told Winters Park to stop giving them to her. But they didn't take him seriously, because the doctor's office rang me up asking if they were still giving her more meds since her kidney health got worse after her first visit. The facility spoke with the doctor, but continued to give her the water pills thrice a week. The manager doesn't look like she's ditching the nurse, who seems unaware, mean, and dangerous. Based on what I've seen, don't risk putting your loved-one here. It won't be long before they face a lawsuit for seriously harming a patient. Their room cleaning service could use some improvement too.

"Positive Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
Our time here has been pretty good. Most of the staff are nice, especially the admin, receptionist, and chef. The helpers in the memory care area could be friendlier, though. It's a nice place, always clean, with lots of fun things to do. Sometimes I have to remind them about little things, which is a hassle. But overall, it feels like home and my loved one feels safe.

I really like this place. It's big and beautiful. It might not be as convenient for my brother, though. The pricing is also something to consider. Another facility has great specials and a locked-in price.
