"Insurance billing process could be easier"

My sister’s insurance covers her stay, but she has to pay upfront, send the bill to the insurance company, and then get reimbursed. It would be easier if they billed the insurance company directly. A nurse gives my sister her medicine, so she always takes it on time. That’s good.

"Great care and cozy living, but could use more activities"

I really like the nurses and medical assistants here. They try to get my loved one to eat in the cafeteria and are very kind and friendly. My loved one is happy with their care. The apartment is really cute, cozy, and comfortable. The food is okay for what it needs to be. My loved one finds it a bit bland, but it's made to fit the residents' needs. They have a calendar of activities and sometimes even live music. There's an activities room for jigsaw puzzles and both indoor and outdoor areas. It would be great if they offered walking or light exercises for the residents.

"Struggled with Evaluation Process, Disappointing Outcome"

I checked out Carver Heights Estates Senior Living, but it seemed pretty old. We really wanted to go there, and they seemed interested too. Unfortunately, as our deadline approached, they took too long to evaluate us. When they finally got back to us, they realized my dad wouldn't fit in well. They couldn't handle his high level of care, which was surprising because we hadn't been told that before. They did mention they needed to evaluate him first, but it took days to hear back. I had to scramble to find another place for him before he left the hospital. Carver was the closest option to our house, but they said they couldn't handle his level of care, even though they had given us the impression they could.

"Clean Facility with Good Staff but Room for Improvement in Food"

We picked Elmcroft of Arlington because it was clean and smelled nice, and we got a good deal at first. However, the price has gone up a bit over time. The room sizes are really good, and I like them a lot. My mom doesn’t like the food—she thinks it doesn’t taste good and wishes there was more variety. My biggest problem is with the laundry; I don’t think they do a very good job with it, so they could definitely improve there. The staff are always helpful, loving, and kind. I would recommend this place to others who are looking.

"Assisted Living Needs Better Staffing and Security Measures"

The people who worked there were nice, and we got to stay inside a lot and eat the food they made. But we think they need to get better at keeping their workers because a lot of them left, and we had some stuff taken while our family member was there.

"Good Communication, But Slow Callbacks"

This has been tough because of COVID. The staff and community communication could be better. They call us if there’s an issue or COVID update, which is good. The main problem is getting them to call us back when we leave messages. I would recommend this place depending on your loved one’s needs.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Community"

This place didn't live up to its promises. Communication is poor. They don't call back. Wouldn't recommend it.

"Poor quality care and communication at Elmcroft of Arlington"

I'd recommend to anyone considering Elmcroft of Arlington to think twice before placing a family member here. My mother was here for less than a day before we had to transfer her to rehab. We've been attempting to reach someone over the phone while we move her out, but it feels impossible. There's no communication at all.

"Nice Facility with Cooperative Staff and Good Food"

It is a nice facility. I have found the staff to be helpful in solving problems and meeting my mom's needs. They do have staff turnover and some differences in the quality of staff. The food is pretty good, which matters a lot to my mom. They let us bring in extra personal caregivers and are willing to work with them. We chose this community because I liked the setting and they could provide the care she needed. It also has an all-inclusive price and a commitment to aging in place.

"Attentive Staff but Poor Management and Care at Assisted Living Facility"

Watch out for this biased company that runs the assisted living facility. Sending a loved one to this place could be the worst move ever - they might just leave through the front door without a soul noticing. There's no nurse available around the clock like they claim. Over the years I've interacted with them, I've seen several nurses come and go, each one worse than the last. The current nurse's rudeness and lack of empathy really stand out. The new executive director isn't any better. She'll smile at you while lying through her teeth. At least the employees are good. They often work overtime to cover shifts, to the point that they look exhausted. Strangely enough, they seem more knowledgeable than the management. Don't waste your time reaching out to their corporate office, it seems to just tick them off. If you're considering this place, don't rely on the facility's words. Rather, talk to the residents themselves. Join them for meals, drop by at random times, always keep checking in. If you need something, don't call; send an email and insist on a reply by email. Consider yourself warned!

"Great facility, but consider discussing preferences before the tour."

This facility is really nice. They have a lot of activities, which is great for many people. My mom was worried she’d have to join all the activities, so she didn’t like the tour. It would help to talk more with the tour guide about my mom’s preferences before visiting.

"Happy Wife, Great Place"

I'm so happy we found this place for my wife. She seems really content here. The caregivers are kind and attentive. The food is tasty. The place is always clean and well-kept. I'd definitely recommend this community to friends and family.

"Not Ideal Location for Dad"

Dad still drives, so this place wouldn’t have been ideal for him—it’s not in a familiar area. We liked the community, even though it was smaller. The rooms we saw were a bit more spacious than others, and the staff was incredibly friendly.

"Great care and happy residents, highly recommend!"

This community takes great care of my father. We love how clean and nice it is, which is perfect for him. The menu is really good, and there are activities for residents who can join in. It’s great to know he’s happy with the care he’s getting. We would definitely recommend this place for taking care of loved ones.

"Unsatisfactory Staff, but Clean Environment and Activities"

We visited this place. I wasn't happy that the staff didn't know who I was when I got there. From what I could see, the place looked clean. There were activities happening when I got there, which was good. But I wasn't happy that there wasn't someone to answer my questions about the care they provide.

This place is really nice, and the people who work here are super nice too. They do all sorts of fun things to keep everyone entertained. My mom loves going to their happy hour! The food is good, and they even have meals for people who need special diets. I think this place is great and would tell anyone who needs care to check it out.

"Inadequate Attention and Slow Response Times at Facility"

The time it takes for help is too long. Waiting for 10 minutes or more can feel like eternity when someone needs to be moved to a bathroom chair. The doctor doesn't visit her even when we get told that he would. The caregivers aren't paying enough attention.

I’m happy with the care my mom has gotten. She went through a tough time before her cancer diagnosis. I think the staff could use more training. The nurses tried to help, but they asked her to get out of bed even when she was in a lot of pain. On the other hand, Tim, his wife, and a few others gave her really caring attention.

"Exceptional Care and Warmth at Elmcroft for My Dad!"

We moved my dad to Elmcroft in Arlington about 6 weeks ago, and I’m really happy with the decision. The staff, especially Angela (the director), is fantastic and always available to both residents and their families. I’ve noticed many staff members taking time to chat with residents in the hallways or dining room. They always remember names and details, creating a cheerful and soothing environment. The food is tasty, and Don, the activities director, is outstanding. We chose Elmcroft mainly because of Don. He’s so energetic, happy, and kind, and has helped my dad get involved in games, activities, and exercise, which was a big change from him just sitting around all day. Claudia, the community sales person, has been great with everything from the move-in to organizing pharmacy deliveries and doctor visits. She’s another friendly face at the entrance. Betty at the reception desk is also wonderful. Overall, it’s a beautiful, clean place with a warm, loving atmosphere.

"Shocking neglect at Assisted Living Facility leaves family heartbroken"

My father shifted into the facility on November 4, 2013. Just four days in, we were informed he had experienced a fall, but they claimed it wasn't severe. A later visit from my brother that same night revealed he needed emergency medical care for a arm injury that didn't seem likely from a simple fall. I contacted the central office with photos of his bruises but received no reply for several days. We had to handle his laundry and room cleaning throughout his stay. He was often alone during meals, and the quality of care took a nose dive. He became almost lifeless in that environment. Following a doctor's appointment that revealed a 35-pound weight loss, I decided to bring him back home. As I packed up his stuff, four employees and a private caregiver informed me he had been a few times, all concealed by the staff. Regrettably, his time at Elmcroft has changed him, and not for the better. It's sad that I entrusted these people with his care. It felt like they were eager to get rid of residents who needed more attention. I'm left wondering, how do these people sleep at night?

"Great Place with Friendly Staff, Needs More Activities"

Overall, I think they do a good job taking care of my loved one. It's a nice looking place, and the staff are friendly and helpful. One thing I'd like to see improved is their activities. I'd like to see more things happening and the staff encouraging residents to join in more.

"Elmcroft Excels in Worker Attitudes, but Activities Fall Short"

I think Elmcroft has great workers who care about residents. But there's a problem: activities are planned and discussed, but not carried out. The activity director is used for everything, from driving the van to setting up activities. When residents arrive for activities, there's no one to lead.

3.5/5.00 Published 11 years ago

"New Management Causing Issues"

The cleanliness seems good, but the care is on and off. They list activities, but they don't always happen. They're supposed to have a movie every Sunday, but it has only happened once. They don't really have a happy hour, and the activities they advertise aren't happening. We have a problem about every other week, and it's only been a month or two since he moved in. The man who managed the place left, and the lady who did his intake left too, so now there's new management. When we first moved in, I was really excited about the management and everything seemed to match what they said, but then the management changed and they're not doing what they promised. I'm waiting to see how things go; it's been two and a half months and I haven't gotten one bill yet. I'm not going to do anything until the new management settles in, and then we'll see what happens. He's getting his medicine, he's being cared for, and he's okay with the meals, so that's good. For now, I'm holding off on making a final judgment.

3/5.00 Published 11 years ago

"Inadequate Staff and Low Cleanliness Standards at Facility"

The staff isn't enough and they should be cleaner. They don't have many doctors there; it's more like a strict-care place without special help for memory issues. They had some activities but it seemed like they pushed TV more than they should. At first, she liked it but as her memory got worse, it wasn't good for her. I even found moldy cups and old food in her room, smelling bad. When I complained, they brushed it off, saying it was recent. Even after I talked to the boss who promised to fix things, it happened again. They even said they didn't have enough workers for her care and that I should pay extra for more help. Near the end, she was just sad, not talking and always looking down. We had to leave after that.
