"Garden Estates offers mixed experiences, but it's costly."

Garden Estates is a pretty good place for people who need a little help with daily life. It's not the best choice for those who require a lot of care. The housekeeping could be better, but it's okay. The food isn't always great or healthy. Transportation options are limited. However, the atmosphere is friendly, the staff is kind and gets to know the residents personally, and the rooms are bigger than most I've seen. Living there costs most of my friend's pension.

"Food quality needs improvement, staff and decor praised."

My mom lives there, and the workers are nice. The place looks great and has fun stuff to do. But the food is kinda bad. Like, one day it's chicken nuggets, then greasy pizza, and green peas a lot. That's not healthy. Good food makes people feel better. I didn't want to be mean, but the boss won't listen.

"Liked it, but misunderstood services offered"

We really liked Garden Estates of Temple. We thought it was just for independent living, so we didn’t choose them.

"Good, but missing some care options"

This place was nice, but they didn’t offer all the care types I needed for my loved one.

"Steer clear of this misleading, negligent assisted living facility"

In my family's experience, Garden Estates seemed like a good fit for my mom when we visited. She couldn't live alone anymore because of her health problems, so we thought it was the right place for her after several visits. I found out the person who did my mom's health check isn't a real nurse, but the Med Room's head med tech. My mom has serious heart and lung issues and uses oxygen all the time. Plus, she takes a lot of meds and knows exactly what they are. But a few times, they gave her the wrong ones. Due to heart problems, my mom's on a low-sodium diet. She liked eating in the dining room, until she gained 40 pounds in just a month. It turns out she was retaining fluid, and she had to be hospitalized to fix it. After being hospitalized for nearly two weeks and coming back, the med room's director was nowhere to be found. I needed to speak with her and the main director about my mom's changed medication, but they didn't seem to care. My mom's health kept getting worse, but the staff didn't keep me in the loop. She was struggling to breathe at night and getting up to take her meds was tough for her. But the staff never let on. We ended up back in the hospital again, for three weeks this time. When she got discharged, we put her on hospice care. The med room director tried to get us to go with another hospice company, which felt wrong given the situation. My mom's fluid gain got worse because of more medication issues. By that point, we had lost our trust in the directors and decided to move my mom back home. We shortly found out they didn't have a nurse at all, despite what we were told. Two weeks after moving back home, my mom passed away. We had to remove some of her things from her room, but when I came by, her door was unlocked and a painter was inside. Some of her things were shoved in a trash bag and her pacemaker monitor was gone. So was our experience good? No. Do they give good care? Maybe, if you can take care of yourself. Looking back, there were warning signs. We should've ran the other way right from the start. .

"Clean and Comfortable Assisted Living Facility"

My mom and I checked out this place a few times before we decided to move all her stuff there. Mom kept changing her mind about what to bring, and [Removed] kindly gave us three tours. She was really patient with us. The rooms were really nice, and overall, the place was super clean. We had a few issues with maintenance while moving Mom's things in, but when we told them about it, they fixed everything. I'd tell other families to check out this place.

"Awful Food & Poor Customer Service at Garden Estates"

The food is simply awful. You can't even eat it. It's not just flavorless or gross, but the menu for the week doesn't match what is actually served each day. The meals we are shown on paper don't match what is brought out. The meal sizes are really tiny. And it tastes like mush. My mom has made great friends there but their main complaint is that the facility skimps on food and doesn't seem to care about improving or listening to worries from residents or their families. These wonderful elderly folks are paying far too much to be served bad food and receive poor service! Garden Estates of Temple, you should be embarrassed!

"Mockingbird, Fire and Trapped Elderlies: Assisted Living Facility Revisited"

I've been to this assisted living facility quite a few times and, I should say, I've seen improvements during my recent surprise visits. There was one occasion when I dropped by while there was a minor fire incident in one of the rooms. I was stunned and couldn't believe what I was seeing when staff members hurried to save a bird in a cage at the lobby but left the elderly residents to manage on their own. Honestly, I couldn't help but think that this was a horror movie unfolding before my eyes. It was disheartening to realize that their low paychecks couldn't stimulate their compassion to help vulnerable residents who were in obvious distress, crying out and begging for help. I did what I could, trying to assist, or match weaker residents with stronger ones or visitors, helping them all get to a safe place. The fire safe doors in the corridors had shut to keep the smoke and fire from spreading to other parts of the building. But—and this is a big deal—those residents who were bedridden, reliant on wheelchairs, walkers, or oxygen tanks, couldn't handle the doors. They were stuck and it was clear these strong doors designed to keep the fire out had instead trapped these residents in.

"Excellent Care for Loved Ones"

This is a great place for excellent care. The staff is attentive and caring to her needs. There are plenty of good meals on the menu that she enjoys. The activities help her stay active. We would recommend this community to other families for their loved one's care.

"Pleasant Tour Overall"

We had a pleasant tour. Everyone kind, community well-maintained.

"Smaller rooms, nice staff, but not for active living"

This place had smaller rooms and seemed better for assisted living. We wanted a more independent and active community. The place looked clean, and the person who showed us around was nice.

"Dad's Happy at Garden Estates"

Dad is doing well at Garden Estates. The staff are caring and take good care of him. He likes the food, which is made from fresh fruits and vegetables from a local market. Dad is making friends, and the community is clean. They have daily activities, but some are more suitable for independent living residents. Overall, I recommend this community for now.

"Great Community with Friendly Staff and Fun Activities"

The facility is pet-friendly and very well-kept. The staff is friendly and well-trained. The rooms are nicely arranged but small for the price and lack storage space. Some downsides are that they only offer cable TV, not Comcast, Dish, or Direct TV. There's one community computer but no printer for residents. The heating and cooling units are noisy and create hot and cold spots in the rooms. However, the staff's activities keep residents engaged and excited. Overall, this is one of the best senior communities in Temple and feels very homey.

"Friendly Staff and Good Food, But Needs Some Improvements"

The staff here is top-notch and really friendly. The food is healthy and tastes good. The only issue is getting settled in after moving, like hanging pictures and setting up TVs. There’s not much storage space, and the HVAC system is loud with uneven temperatures. The community transportation is good, and security is strong. The grounds are kept nice, but some staff smoke outside. It would be better if the campus was smoke-free for safety and health.

"Great activities, caring staff, but too big for mom."

We visited this place, but my mom thought it was too small. They had a cook and a good menu. Lots of fun stuff to do. It was too crowded for mom. The workers were friendly and listened to what we wanted. I think other families should check it out for their loved ones.

"Pleasant Tour, Well-Kept Community"

I had a great tour of this community. Everything went smoothly, and I was happy. Everyone was nice and friendly. From what I saw, everything looked neat and well-maintained. They treated us very well during the tour. However, it just wasn’t the right community for my friend and her needs.

"Still Amazed by Garden Estata"

I keep being happily surprised by all the things Garden Estata offers. But the best part is the friendly, caring staff. They treat us so well. I feel really good about having my mom here.

"Almost Moved In, But Insurance Was a Deal Breaker"

I was all set to make this place my new home when suddenly, a staff member told me I had to cover their health insurance costs, or I couldn’t join the community. Because of that, I decided not to move in. It’s a shame because the place seemed really nice, and I was excited about living there. The meals tasted great, and the rooms were a good size too.

"Great Place for Seniors"

We've mostly been pleased with our experience here.

"Excellent care and friendly staff make Mom feel at home"

After my father passed away, my mom became pretty withdrawn. She’s been living at Garden Estates for just over a month now and is starting to join in some of the activities. The staff here are incredibly friendly. From the office to the front desk, they all feel like family and have really worked hard to make Mom feel at home. I even saw them the other day sitting outside with a resident, just chatting and watching the birds—how many front office people would do that? The medical staff is always helpful, and the housekeeping and chef are excellent. The food is great, and the facility is always clean and doesn’t have that bad smell like some other places I’ve visited. Overall, this has been a positive experience and gives me peace of mind knowing Mom is well taken care of when I can’t be there.

"It is a warm, cheerful place."

When my mom and stepdad looked for assisted living, they heard good things about Garden Estates of Temple from friends with relatives there. We toured it and were impressed. Now, after a year, they enjoy the meals, housekeeping, and other amenities. It's close to their old neighborhood and hospitals. They've made friends, and it's a cheerful place for visitors. The staff is wonderful—caring nurses, top-notch dining room staff, and helpful admin. I recommend Garden Estates of Temple for anyone needing assisted living. It's warm and cheerful.

"Great job, keep it up!"

My wife and I are very happy with everything. Our mom/mother-in-law loves her room and how the management and staff treat her. Victoria Bryant and Judy Grayson have been great to work with, and the staff is friendly, alert, and comforting. We've told several people about this place.

"We Are Very Pleased with Garden Estates!"

We've been very happy with Garden Estates, and I'm glad my mother is there. The place is clean, modern, and elegant but still feels warm and inviting. The atmosphere is friendly, and everyone—staff and residents—is nice and helpful. The food is great; we've eaten there with my mother several times. She's becoming more active and social every day and looks healthier after just one month. The price is similar to other places around. Most importantly, all the residents seem happy.

"The Best Care My Mom Could Have Had"

I couldn’t have found a better place for my mom. She lived there for several years before she passed away, and the care she got was amazing. Even though she needed more care at the end, they never suggested moving her. Hospice came in to help, and they were great too. I’m so grateful for the wonderful care she received.

"Wonderful staff and clean environment with tasty food choices"

I’ve met many great people here—staff, crew, and residents. The housekeeping team keeps everything as clean as possible. The kitchen staff works hard to provide a variety of food choices.

"My Dad Feels Happy and Independent Here"

The facility is amazing. We haven't had any problems at all. My dad is much happier here. Everyone is very nice. He appreciates that they treat him with respect and he feels independent. Although my dad usually complains about the food portions, he doesn't have many other complaints. I really like Vicky and Judy, who manage the front office. One downside is the limited activities, which makes it harder for my dad to quit smoking. Judy is the best greeter, and anyone visiting should definitely ask for her. I still give her a hug every time I visit my dad. They even put him on the resident council committee, so he feels involved in decisions.

"Great staff, but Meridian offers better value and food choices."

I think Garden Estates has a great group of people. However, it is more expensive per square foot compared to Meridian. At Garden Estates, the place is very clean, and the food is good, but it doesn’t have as many choices as Meridian.

"Highly Recommended by Friends and “A Place for Mom”"

I was really impressed with Garden Estates. It was recommended by “A Place for Mom” and a friend. I first met with Judy. She showed me around and explained the services. She was very informative and friendly. We set up a visit for my mom. She had lunch and toured the facility. After my mom decided she liked it, we scheduled another appointment to work out the details.

"Great visit with helpful director and clean, pleasant facilities"

I had a great visit with the director at Garden Estates. She set a positive tone for the rest of my visits and helped me come up with important questions to ask. The facilities were very nice, with spacious rooms and friendly staff. Everything I saw was clean, fresh, and odor-free. The activities calendar was impressive, and there was even an exercise class happening during my visit.
