"Facility Provides Comfortable Living with Room for Meal Improvement"
My mom is happy and comfortable. Her room and common areas are clean. The bathroom she shares could be cleaner; it smells sometimes when I visit, probably because of her suite mate. The staff is really friendly and seems to care about the residents. I think my mom is getting the care she needs. I would like to know more about her medical care and how she's doing. I like the daily memory care activities; they help keep the residents' minds active. I've joined in when I visit, and the instructor is great with everyone. For what we pay, I wish the meals were more than sandwiches and chips sometimes. I think they should include sit-down meals with protein and vegetables. My mom doesn't complain much, so I won't either. Overall, our family is happy with Monticello West for our loved one. The staff is friendly, and the activities are engaging for everyone's minds and memories. Despite minor issues with the food, we feel the facility provides good value for us.

"Caring staff and warm welcome make Monticello West recommendable"
The staff at Monticello West really care about everyone. They know each resident's name and what they like or dislike. From the first day, they welcomed my loved one warmly. I highly recommend Monticello West to others.

"Facility Tour: Mixed Feelings, Older Layout, Some Updates"
I visited this place, and it was alright. It's pretty old. They fixed it up, but the layout is still kinda old-fashioned and not as welcoming as newer places.

"Not My Ideal Assisted Living Option"
I visited Monticello West, and it seemed nice. The place was kind of old and not so bright. I really care about places having lots of natural light because it makes them feel cozy and welcoming. Monticello didn't have enough light for me, and the porch setup seemed strange, almost like a hospital. The walls were concrete and felt too tall. I decided to go with another place because it looked nicer.

"Assisted Living Review: Monticello West"
Monticello West has really helpful caregivers and staff. They are accommodating and friendly, and the location is convenient. However, the food isn't always good. Sometimes the ingredients are strange or it just doesn't taste right. As a result, my loved one has lost weight since being there. But the caregivers have been very helpful. Sometimes they are busy and take a while to respond, but that's how things are right now. Communication with our family is pretty good. I can call and get someone quickly, or email and get a fast response. I wanted a safe place for her with shuttle service to appointments, and that's what they offer. Overall, I would recommend Monticello West to others.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"
This place is really nice to live in. The nurses sometimes take a while to come when I call, but they're trying to improve that. I think they might need more staff. Besides that, I like almost everything else about living here.

"Caring Environment for Loved Ones at Monticello West Assisted Living"
My dad has been in Memory Care for 15 months. He's never wanted to go home, which is great. He feels really comfortable there, and the people who take care of him are so nice. The staff is friendly and caring, and the place feels like home. I'm thankful to everyone who works so hard all the time to take care of him. It means a lot. I would definitely recommend Monticello West to anyone looking for a good place for their loved ones. Thanks!

"Comfort and Care for Our Father"
Our father moved to MW's 4th floor assisted living at age 96 after a small stroke. We couldn't have asked for better care and affordable prices. Despite the many needs of the residents, the staff works hard to keep everyone healthy, happy, and mentally active. Residents are encouraged to join activities like games, crafts, ice cream socials, movies, exercise, holiday events, and more. The property is always clean and well-maintained. The staff is energized by their work with the elderly, whom they love and respect. They customize meals to fit each person's likes and needs. Resident safety is a top priority. Since I commute from far away, I checked in daily. Watching the staff in action shows how special it is to do such important work. We felt comfortable with our father in their care.

I’m planning to move my loved ones into this facility soon, and from what I’ve seen, it’s just fantastic! We’re choosing this place because it lets my loved ones move in together, even though one of them has Alzheimer’s. It makes things much easier for our whole family!

"Overall Good, Needs Some Updates"
I really like this place. The people who work here are nice and have helped my mom and me with her insurance and medicine. But, the building needs some fixing up. The carpets are old, and the paint inside could be brighter. Despite that, it's pretty clean. The elevators are slow, though. The food tastes great! It's seasoned well, and they give you enough to eat with choices. They have a lot of things to do, but my mom isn't interested yet. The staff is trying to change that. My mom seems to be walking a little better lately. The staff tells me everything I need to know. They called me yesterday about my mom's blood test results. Also, the place is close to where I live, which is good.

"Nice Community for Parents, Still Adjusting but Overall Recommendable"
My folks are settling in at this place. It's nice, and they're doing okay. They're still getting used to everything, but I believe they're in good hands. The people who work here are mostly good, especially during the week. They're joining in on some of the activities, which is nice. The food is really good, and they're happy with it. They're getting good care overall, and I'd say this is a good place for others too.

"Decent Apartment, Questionable Assistance and Lost Hearing Aid"
We were shown a decent apartment with a fair cost. Unfortunately, our apartment was changed after we moved in. During the rushed move, a $750 hearing aid was lost and they've offered no compensation. My 89-year-old Dad who's still recovering from a mild stroke and related confusion due to a fall. Because he has OCD, he takes extra time to do daily tasks. A nursing assistant could prompt him to speed up, but when he tells them no, they just leave him alone. Twice this past week, he spent an entire night sitting in his chair with the TV and lights on. This left him feeling worn out and he complained of neck pain. Their definition of assisted care with memory care is rather questionable. Is it any better at other places?

"Clean and Friendly Place"
I visited this place when I was checking out care options for my family member. The building was really nice and clean, and the staff I met were friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the level of care they offer here wasn’t quite enough for my loved one. But if you’re considering assisted living, it’s worth checking out!

"Very pleased with Monticello West's care and cleanliness"
My father is doing great at Monticello West, and we’re very happy with it. The place is really clean, and the staff are incredibly helpful, friendly, and caring. They’ve been there for a long time and are easy to work with. There are lots of activities available, but the only issue is not enough parking for visitors. Overall, it’s a nice, clean place with caring people and fair pricing.

"Downhill Shift in Care At Monticello West Facility Ignites Outrage"
Hey, anyone who thinks you can safely leave your parents here while you jet off to Aspen, WAKE UP! Monticello was formerly a private outfit, making it a good choice. Then a corporation bought it and things really went downhill, but they've definitely polished their sales talk. I've seen other reviews that echo my mom's awful experience, I don't want to get too detailed, but I've noticed that faith-based places usually trump corporate ones because they hold more accountability, even though I'm not religious. My mom was at Monticello for 21 days before she ended up in the emergency room for a whole week. Afterward, we moved her to the oldest faith-based place in East Dallas. Her care and health dramatically improved. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with dehydration, malnutrition, and a bunch more stuff. They never gave her her thyroid medication at Monticello. She hadn't gotten a bath or hair wash for those whole 21 days. Her doctor just took one look at her and stated, "You wouldn't do this to an animal." Monticello even tried putting her on hospice care, when it was their neglect causing her decline. Miraculously, she was able to call 911 on her own line one night. The nurse ripped the phone cord out when she found out! Unbelievable! My mom has macular, making vision difficult. She'd never have seen this. Nights are the worst for getting any help. In the dining area, a lady complained about cold coffee. The response from the staff was, "Well, that's just too bad, isn't it." I could keep ranting, but I think you get my point. I have a depressing last note. When I was moving my mom's stuff out, another resident noticed and said, "Someone's moving out." I replied, "Yes, she's moving to another place." The resident responded, "Smart lady, she has kids who care." That hit me hard. I wanted to call her kids, but that wasn't my place. They probably dumped her at Monticello West and headed to Aspen, thinking everything was fine. At Monticello West, it's definitely not okay!

"Needs More Attention"
I think they're okay, but my grandma's not getting enough attention. She's getting her pills, but they're not really focusing on her needs. The nurse mentioned physical therapy could help, but they haven't started that yet. They're good at most things, but they need to follow through better with her care.

"Neglectful Assisted Living Facility Lacks Skilled, Compassionate Care"
Monticello West has really dropped the ball in terms of quality care. They're not doing their jobs right and don't seem to care much for the people living there. They're pretty slow when it comes to answering calls for help and they don't even check up on everyone like they should. My dad has ended up on the floor trying to get to the bathroom all on his own a whole lot of times, because nobody was answering his call for help. The boss always wants us to pay extra money for an outside helper but we're already paying them to give him the care he needs. My dad ended up in the hospital because he got seriously dehydrated and his blood sugar went way too low. They say they have a nurse but I'm not sure she's really a nurse because she doesn't seem to know much about taking care of old people.

"Happier and Healthier at 91!"
Mom is 91. The feedback we get on her wellbeing is detailed and thorough, from specific examples to an overall sense of how she’s doing. She is well cared for by skilled and kind staff, gets medical attention, and can see nurses, nurse practitioners, and doctors on-site. Mom moved to Dallas in November needing memory care, and now she’s happier and healthier than when she arrived. I’m so glad to have her nearby and really appreciate the care she receives.

"Monticello West: Good Care, Future Updates, and Cultural Activities"
I toured Monticello West with my dad because he needs a place where he and my stepmother can live comfortably, and he’s looking for a new place after getting tired of being a caregiver and becoming frail himself. Monticello West was our second choice after visiting Windsor Sr. Living on LBJ, which they ended up picking. Monticello West was easy for me to get to, located just off I-75 on a side street at the corner of Monticello. Nan, the Director of Community Relations, was very understanding and helpful. I liked the setup, the staff seemed great, the food was good, and the place had a nice feel, probably reflecting the upper-class vibe of University Park/Highland Park. We learned that Monticello West is being bought out and is excited about upcoming renovations. They need to update the apartments and improve the outdoor areas (they have two—one is nice but lacks covered spots, and the other needs some attention) so residents can enjoy sitting outside. I was surprised at how many communities don’t have covered outdoor areas for rainy days. It seems like a nice feature for staff and residents alike. Their memory care unit is good, and they have a “Jefferson Bridge” where a memory care patient can live while the spouse stays in Assisted or Independent Living. They can still spend time together, eat meals, and do activities. I liked their approach, with dedicated caregivers who enjoy their work and a 24-hour RN on-site. They also have Dr. Studley from Baylor, a Geriatrician who visits Monticello West regularly, which is a big plus. We were trying to get an appointment with her before our visit. Monticello West offers various cultural events, like happy hour with a performer around 2:15 pm, and many of the women were enjoying glasses of wine. If you or your parent like having some alcohol occasionally, check if it's allowed or provided. Many smaller communities don’t focus on this, so it’s something to consider. They also offer offsite trips to the Dallas Symphony, visiting authors, and other cultural activities that are more high-end. Overall, I had a positive impression of Monticello West, and my dad did too. You should visit, tour, and have lunch at each facility you’re considering to see which one best meets your needs or your parent’s needs, like aging-in-place, healthcare, staff, food, environment, social activities, and overall setting. I haven’t had a bad experience touring any community, and it’s a good sign that Dallas has many good options for senior living.

"Comfortable, welcoming senior living with friendly staff and furry friends."
Monticello West isn't brand new, but that's okay. It feels cozy, polite, and warm. Most residents used to live nearby, keeping that small-town vibe alive. Not everyone wants to chat all the time, but they're generally nice. The staff is friendly, kind, and helpful, making families feel welcome. I like seeing dogs around, too – it adds to the community's charm.

"Wonderful care and loving staff for my husband"
My husband, who is 62 and has Lewy Body Dementia, needed more care than I could give at home about a year ago. Moving to Monticello West was a smooth process! The staff are kind and make my husband feel special every day. The RN on-site always updates me if his condition changes. The care team treats everyone like family, and the memory care unit feels like a very cozy and welcoming home. I’m so grateful my husband has such a safe and happy place to live.
