The Heritage at Westover Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care

"Good tour, nice amenities, but pricey and lacks curb appeal."
I toured The [name], and it was a good tour. The facility has a lovely courtyard and a nice dining room. However, it lacks curb appeal and has no awning, which worried me about slipping in bad weather. They have many activities for residents, but this place is more expensive than some other nearby options.

"Poor Care and Mismanagement at The June Assisted Living Facility"
We didn't get good care at The June. When my husband fell, it took about an hour for them to help him back into bed, and they didn't get him any medical help. He fell again the next night, and they finally took him to the hospital, where doctors found he had a fractured rib and collarbone. They even took him to the wrong hospital! During his week in the hospital, no one from The June checked on him. Sadly, he passed away there, so I had to check him out early. When I asked for a refund, they just pass me off and promise someone will call later, but no one ever does. They've been almost hateful about it. At first, The June seemed nice; it was pretty, and the salesperson was helpful. But then we found out she left right after we arrived, and ultimately, the care was really lacking.

"Great care and spacious rooms at The June"
The sales director we worked with was super welcoming and didn't pressure us at all. She gave us lots of info and made us feel comfortable. The rooms are really spacious, and the studio is just right for her needs. The healthcare workers are amazing. The first few weeks were tough for my mom because she has dementia and diabetes, but they were very attentive and always called me with any questions or concerns. Their communication is still great. I would definitely recommend The June to others.

"Great care and personal attention at The June—highly recommended"
We picked The June because it’s a smaller place, so my dad wouldn't get lost. They have a great system that helps staff know exactly what each person needs. My dad is happy there, and I feel at ease knowing he’s well cared for. He has many people to socialize with. I’ve already recommended The June to others.

"Food quality poor; staff helpful and responsive."
The food in memory care isn’t great. It didn’t look good and was served with Kool-Aid. The staff is nice and helpful. They are quick to answer any questions or concerns I’ve had.

"Failing Care and Broken Promises at Assisted Living Community"
My family member didn't get proper care here. When we told the staff about problems, they promised to fix them, but they didn't. I asked them to check on my loved one every 2 hours, but they didn't. She fell multiple times without anyone checking on her for 5 hours. I wouldn't suggest this place to others.

"Nice staff, costly COVID changes"
The people who work at the place are really friendly, and they organize stuff for the folks who live there every day. We checked out how much other places like this cost, and at first, what we pay seemed fair. But now, because of COVID, they're making us pay an extra $100 each month for all the safety stuff. We're in charge of getting our family member's medicine, even the stuff we can buy without a prescription. But now they're making everyone use a specific pharmacy, and we think it'll cost us more with our insurance. If we don't use that pharmacy, they'll add $350 to our bill every month. They should get better at keeping us informed, too.

"Good value, decent rooms, recommend frequent visits."
We chose The [name] because of its location and good value. They really worked with me on the monthly price. The room sizes here were decent compared to other places we looked at. I’d suggest visiting your loved one here as often as you can. Overall, I would recommend this place.

"Mixed feelings about assisted living with new management and food."
My dad and his companion were both in the dementia unit even though my dad didn't have dementia. The food there wasn't good; my dad always complained it was cold and tasteless. It used to be nicer before the new management took over. Overall, everyone's experience might be different, but we'd still suggest it.

"Mixed Feelings About The June Assisted Living Facility"
The June is a pretty cool place. Our family member stays in the memory care area. They also have assisted living, all under one roof. However, the memory care part feels a bit separate. The rooms are big, and there are different types to pick from. Some rooms don’t have showers, but ours did. They look really nice and new, with tall ceilings. But because of our family member’s health, this place didn’t fit well for us. She has mixed dementia. Also, there’s a lot of staff turnover, which wasn’t great.

"Great caregivers but frequent leadership changes"
The only problem I have is the constant change in leaders. The caregivers are great. They are wonderful, friendly, good to my dad, and they know me. The food is good and they offer choices. I chose this place because of the price, and my dad could live in an apartment there, which made him feel independent.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living: Some Concerns, Some Comforts"
My mom started at Heritage at Westover Hills about a year ago. We found them through A Place for Mom. Since then, they've changed Execitive Directors four times and nurses just as often. The state even stepped in after the last nurse left. There's a lot of turnover with care staff, too. Mom began in Memory Care and then moved to Assisted Living after it got bought by a new company. The nurses aren't around 24/7, but they cover weekends. Transportation is limited to one bus, mainly for medical appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and sometimes a Walmart trip on Mondays. Medications are managed with a paper system. Mom's medication schedule sometimes clashes with her therapy appointments because of the shift change at 2 pm. This causes her to miss her gabapentin sometimes. The wait for transportation depends on others' appointments but has never been over an hour. There's a nearby doctor who visits for appointments if you join their practice. Dental care is up to you. They offer a mail-order pharmacy service for convenience. The food is decent, but they sometimes serve pork without mentioning it, which can be a hassle if you don't eat pork. They do assist with cutting up Mom's food. It's inconvenient that care staff also serve meals. There was an incident when residents needed bathroom assistance before and after meals, causing some issues for us. Staff turnover is noticeable; we once met a recent high school graduate working there. She left for a higher-paying job. Although we sometimes wish we'd chosen differently due to budget constraints, Mom hasn't faced any abuse and seems content. The facility is pet-friendly, but residents must clean up after their pets. It's non-smoking, and staff smoke outside. It's close to local doctor and dental offices. Mom has made friends and receives help with daily tasks, which comforts us despite the challenges.

"Cozy but modest assisted living, resembling a nursing home."
The place looked kinda like a nursing home from the outside, but it's actually a small spot. The rooms are pretty small too, but they're clean and give off a friendly vibe.

"Disappointing Experience: Assisted Living Facility Review"
I wasn't sure about sharing this, but after six weeks at my dad's new place, I've seen some big problems. The building looks good and is kept clean. The boss and the cleaner do a good job. But that's about it. Here are some things I wish we knew: 1. Lots of staff changes. Everyone important has left at least once, some twice or more. It's hard to keep track. 2. Food issues. Try eating there a few times, not just looking at the menu. My dad complained a lot about food shortages and bad meals. 3. Not great care. When my dad needed help, it took too long to come. The weekly thing he needed done was always messed up. 4. Activity problems. The calendar looks full, but I'm not sure if things actually happen when they're supposed to. The boss seems nice, but I'm not sure things will get better. Check out lots of places before deciding. Don't just trust what they tell you. And remember, if you make a mistake, you might lose a lot of money.

"Headline: Neglect and Miscommunication Mar Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
The care for my mother at this facility was unsatisfactory to the point of negligence, and no one stepped up to take responsibility for the inadequate care. Although, when my mom first moved in a year ago, the things were different and the staff used to send me weekly updates, after some staff changes things started to go south. There's been a high turnover of nursing directors so it's hard to keep track of everyone. Recently, my mom began wearing sandals without socks and that's when I noticed her feet were not well maintained. Her toenails were extremely long, curling around her toes, and her feet had a bad smell. I reported this to the front desk and requested to speak to the head nurse, but after promising to contact me, I never received a call. I called again, expressing my concern about my mom's foot care and got the same response but still, no follow up. After a week, my mom's feet were still in the same, gross condition. My attempts to speak with the head nurse or a director were futile and met with a string of excuses. I was informed that it was my responsibility as a family member to take care of my mom's toenails, which was news to me. Despite claiming they bathed her three times a week, no one had noticed the bad condition of her feet. I was told they could not arrange for a foot specialist because they didn't have her insurance information, which is absurd. There was also an instance where the director denied full accountability and claimed she was new despite having been around for almost five months. This director also accused me of not visiting enough. After visiting and finding my mom asleep in an uncomfortable chair while nurses stood around chatting, my husband and I decided to move my mom out. Despite our moving her out, I was presented with a bill for another month's stay. Unfortunately, the legacy of neglect continued even to the national office where my complaint has been ignored for over a week. I must stress that I facilitated my mom's move into this residence after a recommendation from a trusted elder care placement service, so it's disappointing that this place did not live up to the promise.

"Great Care and Friendly Staff in This Lovely Community"
I think my friends are getting the right care here. This place is nice, and I'd consider living here if I needed care like this. The people I met were nice and friendly. The boss was really polite and good at keeping in touch. I felt welcomed when I visited. I'd tell others about this place.

"Not What I Expected"
I liked talking to the friendly staff and thanked them for showing us around the community. They patiently answered all my questions. I had to think about the fact that it's an Assisted Living community, but I was actually looking for something more focused on Memory Care.
