Valley View Assisted Living and Memory Care

"Mixed Experience: Assisted Living Needs More Tailored Attention"
It's like my family member's Cinderella stepdaughter treatment here. I mentioned some issues to the staff, and they improved slightly but not completely. People with memory problems are all mixed together at Valley View, which isn't effective.

"Good care, but food options and management need improvement"
The aides and nurses were good, but the management was a bit weak. There was too much fried food, and it would be nice to have less of it. Desserts were available at lunch and dinner, but having more Jell-O options would be nice too. When my loved ones first moved in, the intercom wasn’t working, and the call buttons on the lanyards weren’t all functioning, so they had to share one. The community is a bit understaffed, like many places these days. The rooms, open areas, and hallways were beautiful. The community holds monthly meetings to get resident feedback.

"Friendly community with lots of activities and good food"
I like the community here. They are friendly and active. The residents can choose from activities like bingo, card games, and exercises. The food is also good.

"Assisted Living Facility Caused Family Frustration: A Warning"
Don't pick this place for your loved ones. Twice, they didn't have medicine for my family member. Shower problems too. They wouldn't help with bathing.

"Inadequate and Unfair Care at Assisted Living Facility"
This place just doesn't provide proper care for elderly people. They don't pay attention to each resident's health needs. If someone has diabetes or high blood pressure, it doesn't seem to matter to them. Their food can be so salty that you can't eat it sometimes, and they feed everyone the same thing, even seniors with diabetes. They also don't treat everyone equally. Some people get privileges that others don’t. Plus, they're really disrespectful towards the residents' families. They totally ignore any complaints about the staff. They don’t even think taking care of a diabetic person's feet is important, so sometimes residents' toenails aren’t cut for months. I wouldn't recommend coming here.

"Valley View Assisted Living's New System Creates Visitor Hassle"
What a surprise I had when I visited Harlingen today. I planned to see my long-time friend at Valley View Assisted Living, just like I've done countless times before. But they denied me entry because of their new computer kiosk sign-in system. It's a chore to use, requires a telephone number, and I didn't want to share my unpublished number. The manager, , told me I couldn't see my friend. Valley View has made it harder to visit residents, and that's a shame!

"Nicest, Cleanest Place with Great People"
We really wanted to move my mother into Valley View, but she now needs skilled nursing care. Valley View would have been perfect. The people there seem really nice, and both are amazing. The rest of the staff is super helpful, the food is good, and the whole place is very nice. It's the nicest, cleanest place with the nicest rooms and people we saw while searching for a place for my mom. We moved her to a skilled nursing facility that is also very good, but we were very pleased with Valley View.

"Great Place with Friendly Staff and Nice Amenities"
I took a tour of this place and it was pretty good. The staff were punctual and answered all our questions. The building had a nice layout with cool stuff for the residents. I'd suggest it to others, but it didn't work out for my mom in the end.

"Valley View: A Bright Place for Mom's Care Journey"
Valley View Senior Living doesn't feel sad at first glance. It's like entering a beautiful apartment foyer. My mom is in the memory care wing, where she's now content. The assisted living wing wasn't as pleasant initially, but now she's happy. The nurses and aides are wonderful! They patiently help those who need it, guiding them with care. I feel confident leaving my mom in their good hands. PS: The assisted living experience had a rocky start. Unfortunately, some valuables went missing, but the staff's response was less than comforting. However, the monthly support group upstairs has been a lifesaver for me and others.

"Valley View is a great place for loved ones!"
My mother-in-law has been doing well since moving into Valley View. She really loves it there, and we're even thinking about moving my parents in, too. The food is good, and they have a lot of activities for the residents. The community is clean, and I would recommend it.

"Impressed despite not moving in, highly recommend checking it out!"
Sadly, our loved one couldn’t move in due to health issues. But our experience with Valley View was fantastic. The staff who helped us was great throughout the process, and everyone was very accommodating! They set up the room exactly how we wanted, including paint, carpet, and appliances. The facility and grounds are beautiful, and everyone was friendly. Even though we didn’t get to use them, I can tell it would be a wonderful place. I definitely recommend checking them out!

"Still Needing to Remind Brookdale Assisted Living Staff to Schedule Proper Care"
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. But, I've noticed a few problems that are taking a while to get fixed. My dad was supposed to get stand-up showers 3 times a week, but it's not happening. His clothes are supposed to be washed once a week, but that's not always done either. The apartment cleaning isn't the best either. Dad's there because he needs extra medical care and they promised to offer it in their "assisted living part B" program. Sometimes, it's slower than I'd like. I know these might seem like minor issues, but after my mom got out of the hospital, we had to find a different place for her. She's on palliative care, meaning she has unique needs like an Asept catheter. We realized Brookdale (which used to be Canteberry) wasn't up to the task especially since they were already dropping the ball on simpler things. This means my parents have to live apart, which is costing more. Nowhere is perfect, but I'm still having to remind the staff about things they should be doing automatically.

"Everything is going well and the staff is friendly."
Everything is going well so far. The place is very clean. The food looks good, and everyone says it tastes good. The staff takes great care of my loved ones, and everyone is friendly. My loved ones don’t join many activities, so I can't really rate that part.

"Staff Shortages and Lack of Care at Assisted Living Facility"
This place doesn't have enough staff. It can take up to two hours for a call for help to be answered. During meal times, there's no one to assist because everyone is in the dining room. The food usually arrives cold. The carpet is in bad shape and dirty. It only gets cleaned when company visits are expected. There's often not enough silverware or basic meal necessities. We've had to deal with cold showers a lot these past few months because the boiler needs repairing.

"Caring staff and clean facility make us happy."
I couldn't have asked for a better assisted living place. They really help my loved one with dementia. There are activities that support him, and they take things day by day. He seems really happy there, and as long as he is, I'm happy too. The facility is always clean, and the staff does a great job.

"Great Experience at Canterbury Court Assisted Living for My Mom"
I moved my mom into Canterbury Court Assisted Living on February 22, and she adjusted really quickly. The room is great, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The activities they offer are fantastic and keep everyone active and interacting with one another. Mom even danced at a Madagascar party, something she hasn't done in years! It was amazing to see. So far, we haven't found anything to be unhappy about. This experience has been wonderful for us, and we were supported by a great team. I hope others can find such a great place for their loved ones too.

"Caring Assisted Living: A Good Place for Elderly Parents"
The people who work in the office are really good at their jobs and they care about the people who live there. When I brought my parents to live there, there were a few things that needed to be fixed in their room, and the people who work there fixed them quickly. Most importantly, it makes me happy to know that my parents are happy living there.

The director of community relations, is amazing! He helped my dad and stepmom move into their apartment. The hallways do have worn and stained carpets, but their apartment is very clean and nice. The meals are good, and there are plenty of activities if your parents want to join in.

" "Canterbury GARDENS: Cleanliness, Maintenance, and Activities Need Improvement" "
Canterbury GARDENS (not Court) could use better cleanliness and maintenance. It takes a while for any repairs to happen and there’s no follow-up. They also should have more activities, especially for guys. But overall, it's okay.

"Everything they offer is excellent and meets our needs"
We haven't moved in yet, but everything we've seen and been offered is excellent. The place is very clean and nice with no bad smells. The grounds are beautiful. The staff is great. One thing we like is that even with some Alzheimer's and dementia, he can still go on van rides. The environment meets our needs and feels secure. I think the prices are fair. We saw places that cost a thousand dollars more each month for less. The menus look varied and healthy.
