"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short Under New Management"
Hi there, I'm not , but I'm her stepdad and the husband of her mom, who stays at SG Memory Care. Writing this survey is tough because SG changed owners. It started well, but things shifted. My other stepdaughter helped me look into it. At first, I liked how they treated my wife and me. But then they let go of two staff members who reassured me about my choice. Now, with new management, I'm not so sure. They don't check in like they used to. The food often arrives lukewarm, especially for the memory care residents. Plus, they serve dishes some folks don't enjoy. There's no welcome packet or personal cards from the managers. They're struggling to help my wife with her constipation, which makes her cranky. And the TV doesn't have closed captions. Before, we'd receive a big monthly calendar of events for her room, but that's stopped. Almost ran out of characters now.

"**"Pinnacle's Poor Management Leads to Disappointing Experience at SGSL"**"
In April of a certain year, I moved my mom into South Gate Senior Living, which was part of Stellar Senior Living. For nearly four years, they took great care of my mom and the facility won many awards for their excellent service. However, this year, Stellar was sold to Pinnacle. Pinnacle decided to replace the top three directors with their own people, which I think was a big mistake. My mom passed away recently, and the only interaction I had with SGSL was when they tried to get me to sign a new contract with them. When I told them I wasn't going to sign and was considering moving my mom because they hadn't done anything to earn my trust, they didn't respond at all. After my mom passed away, I didn't hear anything from them. No condolence call, no card, nothing. The new executive director is never around and doesn't return calls.

"Assisted Living Staff Patient and Kind Despite Challenges"
Every person taking care of my dad is wonderful. Despite his difficult nature, they're patient and kind. His caregivers keep me updated regularly. From admins to kitchen staff, everyone's friendly. Move-in was smooth, place always clean. Would recommend Southgate Senior Living.

"Mixed feelings about Southgate Senior Living for Assisted Living option."
We visited Southgate Senior Living while looking for an Assisted Living home for our family member. It became our second choice among the options we considered. The facility is pleasant but somewhat old-fashioned, and parking is limited. Nevertheless, the staff here is exceptionally friendly.

"Too Large for Medicaid: Southgate Assisted Living Review"
Southgate is a good place, but it's too big for my sister. They don't take Medicaid, so if she runs out of money, we'd have to find somewhere else.

""Negligent Care Leads to Health Decline at Brookdale Facility""
I'm still upset years later about my husband's experience at this facility. I don't really know the ins and outs of assisted living but I've heard positive things about other centers. My husband's stay at the Memory Care in Brookdale was a different story. In just 3 weeks, he lost 22 pounds and caught pneumonia, forcing me to care for him at home. During his stay, he was largely helpless and the staff didn't do much to aid him. They weren't there to help him change clothes, use the bathroom, or even eat. The food was so bad that he wouldn't eat it, even when I brought in outside help. I believe the root of the problem lies with the top management. The workers' salaries and the staffing levels seemed to be issues.

"Management's Neglectful Care Leads to Distressful Memory Care Experience"
A few years back, my husband's experience at this place was horrible and it left a bitter taste in my mouth. I can't say much about their assisted living service as I'm not really familiar with it - I've even heard some good things about other Brookdale facilities. However, the memory care unit isn't suitable, at least in our experience. My husband was there for three weeks, during which he lost 22 pounds and caught pneumonia. After that, I decided to look after him at home. He was in a nearly helpless condition, and I feel he received very little assistance from the staff - they didn't help him with changing clothes, using the bathroom, or feeding. To make matters worse, the food they served was very poor and he refused to eat it, even when I arranged for personal caregivers during part of the day. In my opinion, the underlying issue is the management – poor pay and understaffing seem to majorly contribute to the disappointing service.

"Community Care"
I visited this place to check care options for my mom. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have a good menu and activities. However, the environment felt dark, and we weren't happy with it. Families considering care options might want to see this community.

"Highly Recommended Assisted Living with Friendly Staff!"
The people at this place were really nice to my family member and me when we visited. They told us a lot of good stuff about their building and what they have for everyone. It was easy to get around inside, and there were many cool things for all the people who live there. I think it's a great place and I would suggest it to anyone.

"Consider touring for loved one's care"
I visited this place for my dad's care. The workers were friendly and they answered our questions. The place was tidy, and they had activities for the people living there. But my dad didn't feel completely comfortable. I recommend families check it out if they're looking for care for a loved one.

"Lack of Outdoor Spaces Disappoints at Brookdale Southgate"
I checked out Brookdale Southgate. The guide was nice, but the place felt cramped and dim. It had gloomy, lengthy corridors. I figured if I'm cooped up in my apartment, I'd like a nice outdoor spot to roam, like a courtyard or a walking path. But this place didn't offer that.

"No Windows in the Bedroom!"
While touring Brookdale Southgate, I noticed it wasn’t very clean. The energy there didn’t appeal to me. The apartment was small, and the bedroom lacked a window. This made choosing another community easier.

"Mixed Feelings About This Assisted Living Community"
I went to check out this place with my mom in mind. They gave us a tour, showed us around, and answered all our questions. The rooms seemed nice enough, and the paperwork was handed over. But I wasn't really feeling any special vibe here. I don't think this is where my mom would want to stay.

"Top Choice Assisted Living: Clean, Friendly, Spacious!"
I looked at three different places before picking Brookdale. I needed a place that would let me bring my cat. The people who showed me around at all three places were really nice. But one smelled bad and was kind of confusing, which I didn't think would be good for someone with Dementia. Another place was okay, but the rooms were strange shapes and not as nice as I wanted. I was really happy with Brookdale Southgate. It was clean, the staff was friendly, and the rooms had just been painted and were big. We've been here for two months now, and I couldn't have chosen a better place.

"Friendly Staff but Needs Experienced Memory Care Workers"
The folks at the facility did a great job getting my family member settled in smoothly. They were really nice and got things done quickly. But, they should work on hiring staff who know more about taking care of people, especially in the memory care part.

"Assisted Living Experience: Friendly Staff, Food Concerns"
The assisted living place has been nice. The people there are really helpful and friendly. I have some worries about the food though. They advertise certain meals on their website, but they don't actually serve them. Despite that, the staff has been amazing and easy to talk to. They're always ready to lend a hand.

Our experience with them has been really good, and my grandma is doing fine there. The food is tasty, and they take good care of the place. The people who work there are nice. We've had a small problem with the hot water, but apart from that, everything is fine.

"Mixed Feelings: Not Quite the Right Fit for Us"
This place didn't quite work out for us. They don't offer physical therapy on-site, just accommodation. During our weekly meetings, they surprised us by mentioning it. My main issue was the continuously increasing costs. The base room price is high, and they tack on extra fees for care levels. It's a bit much. It's an okay place overall, but it didn't suit us perfectly.

"Decent Respite Care, But Needs Some Improvement"
We used this place for a short stay and thought they did a pretty good job, but there's room for improvement. The care level wasn't as high as we hoped, and there weren't enough employees around in the common areas. The food could be a lot better too. We also had a bad experience with the front desk person; they didn't know the answers to our questions and didn't try to find someone who did. Overall, they did an okay job, but it felt more like a business than a caring place.

"Mixed Experience at Cliff View Assisted Living"
Cliff View was clean and smelled nice. The food was okay. The apartments were really small and had views of power transformers or the freeway. The staff ratio of 1 CNA to 28 patients worried us. No other couples lived there, which was a letdown. The staff was friendly and helpful. We'll keep searching.

"Friendly and Caring Staff, Room for Food Improvement"
I tried the food and found it pretty good, but sometimes it's inconsistent, so I'd give it a 3.5. I'd prefer healthier options too, although I know they have health standards to follow. The staff is really nice and caring. Occasionally, some residents can bring a negative vibe, so it'd be nice if the caregivers could cheer them up.
