"Mixed Experience: Responsive Management Needed, Value for Money"
The people in charge haven't been great at getting back to our family's messages, and it's been hard to keep up. But for what you pay, it's not too bad. The food often shows up cold, and there aren't a lot of choices. My family member doesn't really like anything except breakfast. They do some light cleaning and laundry for linens, but you pay more for extra help.

"Great value despite new ownership cuts"
Our first experience was great. Moving in was easy, the staff were wonderful, and the grounds are beautiful. It has met our loved one's needs well. There was a change in ownership in the last couple of years, and now they are stricter with the budget and cutting people's hours. It is an amazing value for those looking for a lower budget.

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Care"
When my family member moved into this place, the workers were really nice and super helpful. They promised he could stay there for the rest of his life, with expert care and hospice if we ever needed it. But after just a few days, he got sick and went to the hospital. When he came back, they said he couldn’t live there anymore because he needed to stay in bed all the time. At first, it was a great place, but then it turned out not so great. I wish they had told us the truth about what kind of care they could really give from the start.

"Mixed Feelings About Pacifica's Assisted Living Facility"
Pacifica recently bought Atria Sterling. During the change, it was hard to make decisions about money and schedules for our family member. But now, everything is settled. The place is okay, always clean and looks good. During the pandemic, they served breakfast and lunch in the rooms, and dinner in the dining room with different shifts. Now, everyone can eat in the dining room because they're vaccinated. But, the visiting hours are bad for people who work from 8 to 5. Also, talking with the medical staff can be hard and annoying. But, our family member likes the place and has made some good friends.

"Affordable and Convenient Senior Living with Responsive Management"
We picked Pacifica Senior Living because it was affordable compared to other places we checked out. The location is good for our family too. The rooms here are smaller, like in a studio apartment. They got new management recently, and these folks seem more on the ball. I'd say it's a good choice for anyone else looking for a place like this.

"Affordable and welcoming assisted living facility with great amenities."
This place is nice and not too expensive for what you get. It's clean, and the people seem happy. They're friendly and have lots of cool stuff in the rooms. The building is pretty old, but they still offer good services.

"Feels institutional, staff caring, facilities older."
Brookdale Sterling was okay, but felt kind of like a hospital. The workers were nice and knew everyone. The buildings were older than other options.

"Good Short-Term Care with Limited Activities"
I needed a place for my mom's friend who was recovering from a long illness. Brookdale Sterling was recommended by the rehab center next door, and it was really convenient since they share the same parking lot (though they are different companies). The place was nice, clean, and close to me, so I could visit often. The fees for the stay were all included, and the apartment was already furnished, which made the move from rehab easy. One thing to note is that there weren’t many activities going on while I was there, but overall, I was happy with how things turned out. My mom’s friend got better and even gained some weight. I would recommend this place for a short-term stay, but I’m not sure how it works for long-term living.

"Poor Treatment at Brookdale Leads to Trust Issues"
My mom's experience at their rehab center wasn't good, even if it's attached to their assisted living place and has a different name. The rehab part was great, but the aides who were supposed to care for her did a poor job. They didn't handle her well and didn't help her deal with her fears properly, which makes it hard for us to trust any Brookdale place ever again. A couple of these aides made my mom's stay tough. We complained and they promised it wouldn't happen again, but they continued to take care of her. This made her have nightmares and made her mental state worse. But once we moved her to another place, that got better. I should mention that my mom used to be a nurse, so she knew what was happening and she wasn't happy about it.

"Harsh Waitstaff Ruins Assisted Living Experience."
Hey all, PAY ATTENTION TO MY REVIEW. Everybody in this facility seems friendly. But the WAITSTAFF is always bad mouthing and mistreating the elderly. They yell at them and say nasty things about them.

"Avoid This Deceitful Assisted Living Facility"
I have plenty of experience choosing skilled care facilities for family members, as I've been part of many. In fact, I've also worked in various facilities and have participated in my town's Ombudsman group to assist in scrutinizing such places. When my mom needed a place to heal after her femur surgery, we thought this institution was just the right fit. Like several other families, we were faced with choosing quickly because she was unable to return home because of her health issue. The place looked nice at first, with a roomy area and friendly staff who welcomed us when we looked around. However, shortly after she moved in, things turned worse. They seriously lacked enough medical personnel, with only 4 staff for over 1000 beds. Even though her room was next to the nurse's station, she was often left alone for long times. We paid extra so she'd be checked on frequently because she was at risk of falling while recovering from her surgery. But, she fell four times, and the last fall resulted in a broken bone in her back. When we saw a sudden change in her behavior, we guessed she had a UTI. But, it took them 2 weeks to do a urinalysis to prove our hypothesis. What's worse, my sister even had to assist in collecting the sample because they couldn't do it. Needless to say, my mother's dementia has worsened due to the pain and the infection. Their care, or lack thereof, and unconcern are unthinkable for an assisted living facility. I acknowledge Brookdale is a massive corporation, but they should focus more on their residents rather than their stock price. Everyone is crucial. The facade they presented during our tour is deceptive. If you cherish your family member, I would advise against considering this place.

"Great for short-term care but long-term issues with transportation."
They were great at Brookdale Sterling. Mom stayed there for a short while for a break. It wasn't the best fit for her in the long run because the other residents had more serious mental health needs. But it was perfect for her short stay. It helped her understand how things work in a place like this. Mom has a complex medical condition, and the staff did an amazing job taking care of her. They made her feel confident in managing her own care while also being very caring and helpful. They really helped her feel independent. However, during her stay, the transportation bus was broken, so she had to pay for a cab to get to an appointment. The staff didn't handle this situation well.

"Decline in Staff and Services at Assisted Living Facility"
My parents have been living there and it's been really hard to see so many changes in the staff there. What's worse is they're not filling empty jobs that fast. They haven't had someone to plan activities for quite a few months. I've also noticed that the staff doesn't respond as fast as they did before and the level of cleanliness in the individual rooms has dropped. Another thing is they don't always keep in touch with the family. I wouldn't suggest anyone to send their loved ones here.

"Caring staff, clean environment, and lots of activities. Great place!"
I believe Emeritus at Sterling does a really good job. I don't live there, but I think the staff is very caring, sensitive, and thoughtful. The place is super clean, no bad smells, and feels very safe. They really take care of the people there and make sure everyone has fun things to do.

"Choose Wisely: Potential Problems in Assisted Living Facilities"
My advice? Pick wisely for your loved ones. Once they step foot into these types of places, it's usually tough for them to decide to leave and find somewhere else. Despite our daily visits, our installed cameras, our countless letters and meetings with staff members and leaders, nothing improved. The staff didn't seem like they had the right training. They were, on occasion, downright nasty, making sport of the senior residents. The homemakers weren't too eager to improve and appeared weary of their own staff. Keeping records for over two years, I saw nothing but decline in this place. There were some employees who realized the problem and tried to change things, but they were quickly let go. I can't even begin to list all our issues - from cleanliness to meal service. It actually makes me ill to look back at the records to see what my mother-in-law and daughter-in-law endured. I just feel like I should've been tougher and acted more. They didn't want to complain out of fear of even worse treatment.

"Top-notch Care and Friendly Staff"
When we were looking for "A Place for Mom," we found Emeritus at Sterling. It was the first place we visited, and they set the bar really high. From Barb, the ED, to Chloe, and the receptionists, everyone showed genuine care and concern for the residents. The building was in great condition, and the food and programs were way better than other places we checked out. I just wish my mom had lived long enough to enjoy her time there. We still visit sometimes to chat with Chloe, Barb, and the other staff. They are truly friendly, caring, and kind.

"Stinky facility tour leaves many questions unanswered"
The place stunk like throw-up and pee everywhere. Even though I had a meeting arranged with the head person, I only got to walk around with the desk clerk who didn't know much when I asked her questions. There wasn't anyone to handle the fun stuff for the folks living there, so all of them were just sitting around in their rooms with nothing to do.

"Great Assisted Living with Activities and Services"
I really liked it. There are 60-70 residents, and they offer extra transportation. They have a Sunday Catholic service on-site, and doctors like chiropractors and podiatrists visit. The foyer is beautiful, and there are plenty of activities.
