"Friendly Staff and Good Communication"
The staff is great! Sometimes a few people have bad days, but overall they are very good. Housekeeping does a great job. I wish they provided toilet paper and tissues so I didn't have to go to the store. Communication with families is good. Moving in was easy with a dolly and back door. I haven't tried the meals myself, but my mom likes some of them and not others. Most things have been good for me, but my mom feels like they don't always tell me everything they tell her, but she gets confused. Maybe having a regular meeting every month or every other month would help. I would definitely recommend this place.

"Good Care, Some Communication Issues"
My dad has settled into his new home really well, thanks to the care and attention he's received. For me, it's been a bit harder. The communication system doesn't always give me timely information. I ask questions, but it's hard to know who or what to ask. I would recommend this place to friends and neighbors.

"Lacking Warmth, Mostly Medical Atmosphere, Decent Staff"
The workers were nice, but the place seemed too much like a hospital and didn't feel welcoming.

"Great tour, but a smaller place worked better for us"
This place was nice, and the tour guide was awesome. But we found a different community that was a better fit and smaller for my loved one.

"Great place with nice views food needs improvement"
We picked Atria Virginia Beach because it offers a great package, has a nice view from the apartment, and is reasonably priced. The food, however, tastes like cafeteria food, so they could work on making the meals better. The staff genuinely care and are very involved. They've impressed me with their attentiveness and making sure she has what she needs. Overall, I’d recommend it to others.

The resident enjoys her apartment and having her car. She's making friends. However, she's unhappy with the food and wants better activities. Overall, satisfied and recommends to others.

"Cozy Community with Friendly Staff and Enjoyable Activities"
My mom's doing well here. We chose it 'cause it looks nice and it's nearby. The people who showed us around were nice and still are. Mom likes the food and activities. I'd suggest it to others.

"Happy with the attentive staff and great atmosphere here."
The caregivers here are really caring and do a great job. The food is really good. They have a special housekeeper for the memory care unit, so it's always kept clean. The activities they offer are enjoyable. We like this place because the staff is professional and listens to family concerns.

"Happiness and peace of mind."
Big thanks to A Place for Mom and Atria Virginia Beach! My Father-in-Law lived with us for 15 years, but after a sudden illness, he needed assisted living. I emailed A Place for Mom, and they quickly sent me a list of local facilities. We visited four, and Atria Virginia Beach stood out as the best. We were unsure how my Father-in-Law would react, but he loves it there. On the first night, he made a friend at dinner. Everyone has been kind and helpful, and we're relieved and happy knowing he's in a clean, safe, and beautiful place.

"Declining care and services prompt search for alternatives."
Looking back at a review from September 2013 feels like déjà vu. My folks have been at Atria for over 3 years, but things have been going downhill. We've seen three different bosses, many changes in who looks after the residents, and a lot of staff coming and going. The top boss seat has been empty for a couple of weeks now. It seems like every year, there are fewer staff members compared to the residents. I've talked to both local helpers and the big bosses at Atria about our concerns. We don't feel like we're getting the level of care we're paying for they call it Level 4. They said they'd make sure the helpers check on them every 2 hours, but nothing really changed. Once, a friend told the helpers that my dad needed a bit of help with hygiene, and they said they couldn't help everyone with personal care. The place looks nice and is mostly clean, and there are some nice, caring staff members. But there's a lot of people leaving and joining. Many of the helpers are young, not well trained, and lack the kindness needed for caring for older folks. Now, I'm checking out other places for my parents.

"Atria Assisted Living: Negligence, Poor Conditions and Constant Neglect"
Atria is an absolute horror show. My mom was there for four dismal years and the whole place has taken a serious turn for the worse. The lack of cleanliness in the rooms is just embarrassing and the meal quality is abysmal. The staff seem to not care as they sit back and let the residents struggle. They've ditched the promised yearly check-ins, and my mom's condition worsened dramatically with zero communication from their side. When bathing became a challenge, there was no support provided. My mom seriously needed hygienic care. The help they were providing was so insufficient that we had to hire a private firm to take care of her. Despite pleading for an assessment and a higher level of care, they paid no heed to my pleas.

"Nice facility, not suitable for my loved one's needs."
I thought Atria Virginia Beach seemed like a nice place overall. Sadly, it wasn't right for my loved one's care needs. But for someone needing that level of care, it would be nice. The place was clean, and the staff were friendly and paid attention.

"brackets"
Atria Virginia Beach is honestly the worst place I've ever seen. They really upset me. My aunt was only there for 9 days and they charged us $30,000. They were dishonest about the level of care they promised to provide for her. They wouldn't even feed her properly. I've never seen such neglect in my life. It was simply horrifying. The hospice team was also led to believe this facility could offer her the care she required. My aunt fell, was taken to the hospital, and when she returned to the facility, she hadn't been changed all day. My husband had informed the staff that she was incontinent and needed frequent changes. One staff member acted as if he was crazy and expected him to handle it. Given that we moved her here under incorrect assumptions, I believe a refund is in order. I am deeply unsatisfied with our experience at this place." : "Atria Virginia Beach: A Dreadful and Disturbing Experience" [[/brackets]]

Atria Virginia Beach is a nice place overall. The community feels friendly and social, and the staff are kind and helpful. The facility is clean and well kept, and the food is really good. They don't provide as much care as we would like, but my loved one seems to enjoy it here.

"Disappointing Visit - Wouldn't Suggest for Memory Care"
I visited this facility when exploring dementia care choices for my relative. Judging from my experience, I wouldn't advise others to consider this place. The people in charge were quite unfriendly and uncooperative. Furthermore, the caregivers didn't appear to be properly trained or passionate enough to help residents dealing with dementia.

"The communication with families falls short of our hopes."
The place is very clean, and the staff is friendly. But when we ask for things to be done a certain way, they don’t really listen or act on it. They also don’t return phone calls. Communication with families isn’t as good as we’d like, but they do respond well to the residents. The food is fine, and they offer a good variety of activities.

"Aesthetic but not Fit for Advanced Alzheimer's patient's requirements."
When it comes to serious Alzheimer's patients, this place isn’t adequate. They prefer residents looking neat, eating well, and watching movies. Issues arise if residents aren't keen on TV or prefer to walk. They don't provide medications as needed, and if you're unable to feed yourself, they may not house you. Mobility is key, and they won't accommodate if two-person assistance is needed. They weren’t attentive to his physical and basic needs. If he didn't conform - eating and watching TV - they seemed disoriented. We chose this due to its small size, but found the staff lacking competence in managing advanced Alzheimer's patients. Only two or three caregivers were commendable. The leadership was inadequate, with high turnover, including five directors in five years. The current director's demeanor comes across as backstabbing. The facility is indeed beautiful, a wasted potential. I wouldn’t recommend it. If you’re in good health and need sleek assisted living, it’s perfect. But if your Alzheimer's is severe, look elsewhere. He sustained injuries that remain unexplained.

"Cozy environment, but too small for our needs."
We checked out this place for our family member's care. It seemed nice and the people working there were friendly. But we wanted a bigger place for them, so we didn't think this was the right match.

"Continued Staffing Issues Plague Assisted Living Facility"
My dad lived here for a while, and the quality declined over time. By the time I left, about 50 others had also moved out. I visited there daily, and the situation was so bad it left me feeling depressed. The good employees departed and were replaced by young, apathetic staff who didn't have proper knowledge or training. They didn't assist the residents to participate in activities as they were meant to. The head cook resigned, and in one year alone, we had 3 different head nurses. The director seemed to force out the valuable staff. My issues were similar to others' complaints and it seems no improvements have been made since another woman just relocated her mother out of there. I'll revisit to check up on the situation.

"Warm and clean home-like facility near hospital, great communication."
Visited the place. The top staff made us feel comfortable talking to them. The building was lovely, tidy, and felt like home. It's conveniently located near the hospital and medical buildings, and it's not far from where I live.
