"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
My time there felt like a two-star trip. It was pretty clean, maybe a four or five. The office folks were super nice, definitely a five. But the nurses were just okay, like a two. Meals? Dad skipped a lot, so maybe a three. And no fun activities at all, big zero. Didn't feel like we got our money's worth, maybe a two.

"Decent Experience at Avalon House"
We brought some equipment to the facility, but I realized it wasn't okay to have it there. I wish I'd known this before moving the patient in. Besides that, everything at Avalon House On Oakview Drive has been pretty good.

"Great facility with caring staff and good resident-to-caretaker ratio"
Avalon House has been a great place for us. Since it's a memory care facility, there aren’t many activities, but I think they have someone who plays music sometimes. The staff genuinely cares about the residents, and the small size of the facility means there are more caregivers per resident.

"Wonderful, homey environment with full age-in-place care"
It's really nice here, and the staff is wonderful. My only concern is that my husband isn't sleeping well at night. I'm not sure if they'll be able to keep him because their care model doesn't support taking care of someone with significant balance issues and restlessness at night. We're trying to find medication to help him sleep. They offer one-on-one services, but that costs extra, and I can't afford it. For Northern Virginia, the price is reasonable, and the place is really nice. I love that it's small and gives personal attention, making it feel more like a family than an institution. I felt he would like it here, and it seems like he does. Another thing I appreciate is that they offer full age-in-place care. You pay the same daily rate, so you know exactly what you're paying for.
