"Assisted Living Facility: A Mixed Bag"
I want to share my thoughts about the assisted living facility I’ve been staying at. There are some good things, but also some areas that need improvement. Let’s break it down: The Good: Food: The meals here are pretty decent. I’ve had some tasty dishes. Activities: They organize fun activities for us. Bingo nights and movie afternoons are my favorites. Security: I feel safe here. The staff takes security seriously. The Not-So-Good: Communication with Family: Sometimes, it’s hard to get in touch with my family. I wish they were more responsive. Follow-Up on Promises: They’ve promised to fix a few things, but it takes forever for them to follow through. Missed Medical Appointments: I’ve had a couple of missed appointments, which is frustrating. Professionalism of Some Staff: Not everyone is as professional as they should be. Overall Impression: The staffing seems inadequate. They need more hands to provide better care.

"Poor Care and Communication at Assisted Living Facility"
If you can manage on your own, this place is okay. But if you need help, don't stay here. They didn't properly clean my family member. The workers here talk a lot, but their actions don't match their words.

"Great Location and Comfortable Living at Bickford of Spotsylvania"
We picked Bickford of Spotsylvania because it's close to family and we liked how the building is set up. The room size is perfect for her needs. She loves the food, which is made by chefs. They're starting to do more activities again after stopping because of covid – they went on an outing last week. I would definitely suggest Bickford to others looking for a place.

"Top Choice: Bickford Shines in Quality & Comfort"
We picked Bickford of Spotsylvania because it stood out from the rest. It's pretty new and looks amazing. The rooms are about the same size as others we've seen. It feels just like home here, and I'd tell others to check it out.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"
The community is nice. They faced some issues with COVID lockdown. We can visit now, but only recently. Visits are limited to porch or room, by appointment. Each visit lasts 30 minutes with our loved one. They share updates in a newsletter on their website. COVID case numbers are also on their website.

MISLEAD
"Terrible Business Practices; Assisted Living Facility Misleads Customer"
I began with high hopes that this would be the perfect residence for my husband. I was upfront about his medicare and financial aid situation from the very beginning. They took two weeks of my time with a virtual tour and a nurse's assessment. They told me everything would be okay. THEN they sent me to deal with their finance department (ELDER). Since we had nothing to sacrifice for his stay, all of a sudden they're telling me they won't accept our insurance. This is a TERRIBLE way to conduct business. They should have been clear with me from the get-go.

"Concerns Arise About Care Quality in Bickford of Spotsylvania"
Bickford of Spotsylvania proved itself inadequate. My wife lived there slightly over a month. Director, [name removed], ignored all my calls. Even after an employee texted her my contact info, still no callback. I frequently arrived to see my wife upset and crying near a door, having triggered the alarm, but nobody noticed. This happened repeatedly. They only included her in an activity once after my complaint. When a group left for an outing without her, she was left with no activities or staff members to engage her. One time, she went a whole week without a bath or fresh clothes until I intervened. My wife has dementia. They admitted her under assisted living at care level 2. We believed it was a good fit, as did they, instead of the memory care unit. My prime worry was her engagement. They promised me she would be. I did not demand one-on-one attention, but I expected dignified care. Although many said acclimation could take 3-4 months, after one month, they wanted to move her to the memory care unit. This shifted her cost from $5,300 to $6,800. They cited her unsuccessful acclimation. ONE MONTH. They promised engagement in memory care, just as they promised in assisted living. I feel like they would say anything to admit her. I sensed a shady sales tactic. If they deemed her for memory care initially, they should have been honest and only admit her under those conditions. They didn't want to risk losing a client. The place looks appealing, but the care level is reprehensible. Their standards of care are not met. I heard [name removed] is still there, which surprises me. Many staff expressed their concerns when they learned we were leaving and blamed [name removed]. One said this wasn't the first instance of such complaints and encouraged me to detail these issues when calling the main office. It is clear they prioritize money over care.

"Neglected and Unattended: Unimaginable Experience at Bickford of Spotsylvania"
Our time at Bickford of Spotsylvania was an absolute nightmare. Initially, my wife was accepted for memory care at level 2. Barely a month later, without any change in her condition, they tried shifting us to the memory care unit. Worse still, my wife didn't get the care she needed. Besides occasional visits, I made it a point to see her at least every second day, sometimes even multiple days consecutively. Never did I find her participating in any activities. I consistently urged them to engage her in activities, even when I was there. Only once was she taken to an activity during my visit. Things only shifted once they tried moving her, after which I chose a different place. I visited her on Sunday, January 27th, and then again on Tuesday where I found her in the same clothes and not showered. I had to dress her myself. On my subsequent visits on Wednesday and Friday, I yet again observed her in the same state. This was not negligence, it was outright neglect. Numerous times, we found my wife by the exit doors, setting off the alarms, confused, teary-eyed, and neglected. Not once did the facility's director return my calls, even when prompted by a voicemail or a message from another staff member. One of the employees even texted her with my details and never received a call back. In terms of care, their neglect verged on outright abuse.

"Understaffed, overpromised; wouldn't recommend."
My dad was at Bickford for 16 days before passing. The floor staff were good but understaffed. The office staff overpromised. Not recommended.

"Terrible Management and Neglectful Care at Assisted Living Facility"
This place was seriously bad. We had to shift my mom out of there after just 7 months. They clearly didn't hire enough folks to look after everyone. Her room wasn't cleaned as often as it should've been. What's worse, they didn't keep up on her daily meds and let them run out before getting more.

"Great Assisted Living Experience for Dad"
[Removed] told us a lot about the place. We really liked seeing our names on the welcome sign in the lobby. She was awesome with Dad and answered all his questions. Even though they were still cleaning up from a water pipe burst last week, the place looked beautiful. This facility is definitely one we're considering for Dad.

"Assisted Living Welcoming and Informative, Despite Recent Water Pipe Incident"
The lady told us lots about the place. We liked the sign with our names when we came in. She helped our dad a lot and answered his questions. The place looked nice, even though they were still fixing up from the water pipe problem last week. We think it's a good option for finding a place for dad.

"Nice place with modern rooms and kitchenettes."
I visited this place while searching for a home for my dad, and it was very nice. Most people there were women, but there were a few men too. They had lots of activities and a dining area like a restaurant. The facility was very clean and new, only about a year old, so everything was modern. When I walked in, it felt like stepping into a home with its open floor plan. The rooms were nice and had kitchenettes. My dad would have lived here if it were a bit more affordable.

"Mom Happy with Her New Home"
My mom is doing well after moving here. She really likes it, and I’m happy with everything they’ve done for us. The staff is great, and I’m satisfied with her care. The community is clean and well-kept. They offer good activities and nice meals. I would recommend this place to my friends. Everything is working out great for my mom here.

"Nice place, some tour issues"
Loved the facility. The person supposed to give our tour wasn't there, but we still got a great tour. The tour guide couldn't answer a couple of questions. I plan to follow up to get those answers.

"Great new community with caring staff!"
The staff at this new place are really going out of their way for the residents. My loved one enjoys the food, but thinks the portions are a bit small. They are just beginning with activities and outings. The residents are helping to decorate the place. It’s clean. One reason we picked this place is because it’s close to a hospital. I would recommend this place.
