"Staffing improved, cost reasonable now"

Overall, I've been pretty happy with Brookdale Staunton. I was worried about the staff before, but it's gotten better. The cost went up earlier this year, but since my dad's care plan changed (because he sees VA and Hospice staff), the price is reasonable again.

"Good choice with room for improvement and helpful layout"

I still believe it’s a good choice. There’s always room for improvement. Some issues have come up because of not enough help. The way the rooms are set up and how the place felt during the tour made a big difference.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility"

The place is mostly clean, but sometimes the bathroom is messy. The staff smile a lot, but they're supposed to check on my grandma every two hours, and sometimes they don't find her for four hours after she falls. Sometimes things like silverware and lamps go missing, and once we found a staff member's e-cigarette left in her room. When we visited, they showed us a fancy menu, but now that she's moved in, the kitchen is often closed because of water damage, so she usually gets a simple dish. We're paying a lot for less than what we were promised. My grandma doesn't join in the activities, so we're basically paying for things she doesn't use. It's expensive and not as good as they make it seem.

"Assisted Living Encourages Family Involvement"

At the assisted living facility, they’re a bit short-staffed right now. But we appreciate their efforts to involve our loved one.

"Great facility with friendly staff, but better info needed"

I think this place is pretty nice. The staff seem to care and are friendly with the residents. However, there were some things we had to figure out on our own that could have been explained better from the start. Despite that, out of all the places we checked out in northern Virginia, this one was the best in terms of both the facility and the people. We felt good about moving our mom in here.

"Brookdale Review"

I’d say Brookdale doesn’t always deliver what they promise. Some aides were great, but others didn’t pay enough attention to my loved one or other residents. Communication between shifts was lacking, and our loved one’s room wasn’t cleaned properly. Response times varied a lot. On the bright side, the administrative staff listened to our concerns. Overall, it’s better for active seniors.

"Fun activities, needs better sign-in/out system."

They have great activities there, and our loved one really enjoys playing bingo. The cost is a good value right now. Our only issue is that we wish they had a more consistent sign-in and sign-out sheet. Sometimes people come and go all day, and the staff doesn't know where they went or what time they left.

"Friendly Staff, Varied Activities, Home-like Food, Room for Improvement"

The staff here is super nice. They have lots of fun things for us to do. The food tastes just like home cooking. They make sure our medicine is right with help from our doctors. It would be cool if they had a box for suggestions from us residents.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Experience: Poor Communication and Cleanliness Issues"

We were not happy with this place. They didn't tell us what to expect. They first put my husband in assisted living, then moved him to memory care because of Alzheimer's. The place was pretty dirty, so we had to clean it ourselves. We had to visit him every day to make sure he was okay. There was mold in the shower and bathtub because they didn't clean it. We didn't know when they would serve food or what it would be. The food was terrible. Most of the staff were okay, but they only did the bare minimum. The care services weren't good, and we had to tell the staff about many problems. Communication could have been better. It was too expensive, and they charged me for extra things. He always lost his personal items. We moved him to a new community as soon as possible.

"Welcoming Facility with Friendly Director and Better One-Bedroom Option"

The facility was welcoming, and the director knew all the residents we saw in the hallways. They have an Activities Director on-site. The place feels like home. The studio we looked at was plain, but the one-bedroom was nicer.

"Clean, friendly, and well-located facility—pleased with my choice!"

This place is in a nice rural area but close to Staunton and Verona. It’s very clean, with updated furniture, and the staff is friendly. I was really pleased with how much I liked it.

"Quality Assisted Living with Vibrant Activities"

Nice place! It's near main roads and has friendly staff. The dining room and outdoor spaces are beautiful. Only a faint urine smell in the memory care unit, but overall, it's clean and cozy. The residents enjoy a great schedule of activities and entertainment.

"Safe, Clean, and Supportive: Great Place for Loved Ones"

My wife's doing pretty well in this place. I feel she's safe and in good hands. The staff is really helpful, and they keep everything clean. Whenever I visit, everything looks well-kept. They have activities for her, and she likes the food and dining. I think this place is good and would recommend it. It's working out well for us.

"A Great Place to Live"

I'm doing great since moving here. It's a nice place, and everything's going well. I like staying here. People are really nice and friendly. I've been to many other places, but this is the best. I'd suggest this place; it's awesome.

"Perfect place for my mom"

I am so happy I chose Brookdale of Staunton for my mom. It was really stressful moving her from living on her own to needing more care, but Brookdale made it easy. Knowing they are a national organization was a big help when we had to assess her while she was out of state. They sent their own staff to Tennessee, so I didn't have to worry about moving her closer to me. They take great care of her, even accommodating her vegetarian diet and helping her make friends. The staff is always super friendly, patient, and willing to help. The cost is amazing, much cheaper than other places nearby. I couldn't be more pleased!

"Not Close Enough!"

We enjoyed the community during our tour. The place was tidy and had plenty of activities for residents. However, the location was too far for Dad.

"Not enough space!"

We visited this community and really enjoyed it. The staff was nice and knew a lot. They gave us a tour, and the place is lovely. The only issue for my dad is that they only have twin beds, and he's a bigger guy.

"A Happy Place with Room for Improvement"

My husband likes living here. The staff are nice, but sometimes they respond quickly and other times they are too busy. The food isn't the best. They have daily activities and sometimes entertainers come in, and they are pretty good. The community is well taken care of, and I would recommend it.

"Helpful and Supportive During Stressful Transition"

Finding care for a loved one can be tough, but Brookdale/Staunton made it easier. They were very helpful with information and support. They also helped with the paperwork and coordination when moving our mother from the state hospital. Their assistance made the stressful process more bearable and gave us peace of mind when she finally moved to Brookdale.

"Everything Went Smoothly and Staff is Fantastic"

Things are going great for my father-in-law at this place. Everything here is wonderful. The staff is amazing they're really kind and helpful to us. They take great care of him. There are lots of activities for the residents to pick from. He enjoys the meals because they are well balanced. The whole process was easy and everything is working out nicely.

"Great staff made Mom feel comfortable and settled!"

Our time at Brookdale Staunton has been great! They did an amazing job helping us with all the paperwork. The staff worked hard to make sure Mom felt comfortable and settled in after moving in. We are very happy with everything so far!

"Mixed Experience at Emeritus Assisted Living"

After only 9 days at Emeritus, I think the staff and medical support are doing well. But, it's hard to reach the nurses by phone sometimes. It takes a few tries. But when they do pick up, they know their stuff. I haven't tried the food, but my mom says it's good. She's picky. Emeritus seems to lack in activities for residents. There don't seem to be many activities or residents participating. Most residents aren't very active. I'm not sure why.

"Great care in a friendly, people-focused community!"

Overall, Emeritus at Staunton does a great job. The staff are friendly, smart, and professional. It's a welcoming, caring place for residents. They're merging with another company, causing some confusion, but we're very pleased overall.

"Everyone is super nice and helpful!"

I love how everyone is super nice. They all do a great job. My mom thinks they need more staff in the dining area. The food is good, but they could use more help.

"Not Enough Help for All Residents"

My family stayed here for a little while, but we decided to move them after not even a month. It was obvious that this place didn't have enough people taking care of the residents. With more than 100 residents, there just weren't enough helpers for everyone. Important things were missed, like my dad not having his walker when he needed it, or times when residents went unaccounted for. I was worried about the safety and health of the residents.

"Great place with small portions, friendly staff, and nice building"

I really like this place. I've eaten a few meals there and they've been good. The portions are a bit small, but if you want more, you can ask and they'll give you more. I've had some trouble sorting out my medication with the insurance, but I'm not sure if Emeritus can help with that. It was expensive, but not as much as other places, and the building itself is really nice. Plus, it's a very family-friendly place.

Great tour! The staff shared lots of helpful info, and Mom felt comfortable.

"Worried About Mom's Placement, Limited Freedom a Problem"

We're a bit worried because mom appears to exist in a limbo between the dementia and assisted living units. There's a courtyard for walking, but not a lot of freedom. That's becoming a problem anyhow.

"Wonderful directors and delightful home"

I found the director to be a wonderful resource, and the activities director was great too! The home was delightful and definitely stands out as a top choice.
