"Mixed Experience at Carriage Hill Retirement: Understaffed, Limited Food Options"
My family member stays at Carriage Hill Retirement and it's been alright. Everyone is really nice and helpful. But there aren't enough staff. They try hard, but there's not enough of them. About the food, there's not many choices. Everyone gets the same thing, and it's not very good. The good thing is, they let people have pets.

"Pleasantly surprised by Carriage Hill's caring and attentive staff"
I was doubtful about Carriage Hill at first, but the admissions lady [name removed] and the staff made things easier. My uncle has been there for a few months now, and I’m pleased with the care he’s getting. The staff and the nursing director really listen and take great care of him.

"Caring Memory Care with Friendly Staff"
My mom started in the more independent building, even though she had signs of dementia. She did well for a while. As her dementia got worse, she moved to the memory care building. There are fewer people there, so she gets more personal attention. Overall, I’m happy with the care she receives. The manager and head nurse really try their best. The staff is friendly and helpful.

"Not Quite What We Expected"
Our family visited the facility in person, and the tour was okay. However, it felt more like a nursing home.

"Exceptional Care and Beautiful Setting at Carriage Hill"
After searching for months, I found Carriage Hill for my mother, who had started showing signs of dementia. It was a great fit for her needs. The facility is clean, quiet, and located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. My mother always admired the mountain views. The staff was caring and handled any issues promptly. She often praised the food and said there was always too much to eat. The staff would even offer seconds and never worried about strict meal times. They made sure she had breakfast if she slept in. I highly recommend Carriage Hill. Over nearly 3 years, my 92-year-old mother was always happy, clean, and content. I visited her weekly, and I felt at ease knowing she was well cared for. They kept me informed about her health, like when she had a cold and what medicine she was given. They focused on her comfort. I do wish she had participated more in activities, but she was quite stubborn. Overall, Carriage Hill is exceptional, and I was very satisfied with the facility.

"Decent, Affordable Option with Some Drawbacks"
This place has a moderate price. The fees went up by $1500 a month after they added new activities. The common areas were clean, and the rooms had new paint. However, there wasn't much staff around.

"Negligent Staff and Low Hygiene Standards at Assisted Living Facility"
This place has a shockingly high rate of worker turnover. The care provided is laughably inadequate. It's hard to understand who's in charge, who to talk to about problems, and who has responsibility for what. Questions go unanswered and chaos ensues whenever anything goes wrong, as everyone rushes to save themselves. Hygiene standards here are far from satisfactory. Residents are only allowed to bathe twice a week, no matter how messy they get. My experience today, coupled with having a family member stay here for some time, has only strengthened my conviction to find a better facility. Except for a few exceptions, the staff seems to not care and is lackadaisical. They seem devoid of empathy and practical judgment.

It's really sad to see loved ones poorly cared for.

"Facility Shutdown Pending: Numerous Violations and Expired License"
Search for online. Look up Carriage Hill. Lots of problems. Their license expired. The state won't renew it and is closing the facility.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Facility Lacks Care and Cleanliness"
If I could, I'd give this place a big fat zero. My mother-in-law lives here because she has dementia. The staff and nurses don't seem to give a hoot about her well being at all. They are quick to send us a bill for her care every month, but they don't seem to actually put any effort into looking after her. They're more interested in scrolling on their phones, watching TV, or sneaking outside for a smoke break every few minutes. The living conditions are just plain horrible. The worst part is that the first thing you notice when you walk into this place is the smell of urine, especially coming from the rooms. The whole operation is a mess and completely unprofessional.
