"Steer Clear of Highland House: A Disastrous Assisted Living Experience"
This facility is absolutely unsuitable for any loved one's residence!! The staff is uneducated, due to a lack of proper management. Be sure to look into complaints with the Virginia Licensing Board. The management appears to prefer residents whose families hardly visit. To those who intend to visit their loved ones often, be prepared to notice plenty of problems. The advertised activities meant for resident engagement rarely happen. The food menu is nothing more than a façade. Considering the high monthly fees, residents should be served well-prepared meals, not frozen goods from Kroger's. The staff ratio is blatantly low for the care standard expected. If a resident requires the assistance of two aides at bedtime, others are largely ignored. Visit on a weekend and you'll struggle to spot a staff member or you'll witness the lobby's inattention to cleanliness. The current facility administrator, initially a good med tech, lacks experience in addressing family concerns. She's defensive and rude. Her leadership skills, or lack thereof, have been criticized by her team. This leadership lapse extends to her supervisor at the corporate level, who happens to be the administrator's husband. If you try to discuss concerns with him, the admin's wife will assert that she's the end of the line. She portrays a caring demeanor, which is a blatant deception. Despite multiple opportunities to improve, the facility's care standards remain lacking. The only promises they keep are hollow ones. I deeply regret bringing my loved one here. Their final chapter was filled with anger, unneeded stress, deep distress, and borderline Elderly I implore you, take your loved ones elsewhere. Choose distance over Highland House.
