"Assisted Living Costs Raise Concerns"

They respond quickly and are always friendly. The food is good, but lacks variety. Some options should accommodate those with minimal teeth. However, the cost seems too high for the care provided. .

"Engaged staff, cost-effective, uncomfortable memory care, subpar cleanliness."

Engaged staff, cost-effective, but uncomfortable memory care, subpar cleanliness.

"Lacking in care for confused patients. Okay staff, cleanliness, food."

This place isn't good at handling people who get confused. It smelled really bad, but it seemed clean. Most of the staff were nice. They didn't give personalized care. The food was alright.

"Outdated Feel, Friendly Staff: Not Ideal for Us"

We didn't pick Morningside in the West End because it felt old and not modern. The apartment was small and not the layout my mom would've liked. It felt more like one big room, not an apartment. We preferred places that were updated. The staff were all nice, but it wasn't right for us.

"Clean Facility but Poor Food and Lack of Activities"

We are very satisfied with how clean the community is; we’ve never seen any dirt or messes when we visit. The staff is really friendly and we haven't had any problems with them. However, the food is a big issue. It mostly comes from cans and has way too much sodium. When we visit, the meals are just instant potatoes, fish sticks, and mac 'n' cheese. There are no fresh greens, fruits, or salads just cafeteria-style food. We're also concerned because our loved one is active but there aren't many activities for memory care. We don't want them to lose skills, so we think there should be more things to do and exercise options, especially for what we’re paying. We’ll be more satisfied if the food quality and activity options improve.

"Lacking Cheer: A Disappointing Visit to Morningside Assisted Living"

Our visit to Morningside in the West end was not great. The place seemed a bit old and not so clean. Also, it didn't feel happy or welcoming at all.

"Friendly staff and good activities, but maintenance could improve"

We've had a few small problems. They could use more maintenance workers because they only have one person, and it can take a while for requests to be handled. On weekends, there are fewer staff members compared to weekdays, but I guess that's common everywhere. Most of the staff are friendly and willing to help. The important thing is that they’re nice to your loved one, and I think they are. My loved one says the food isn’t hot when it’s served, but when I’ve eaten with her, it seemed fine. She’s been pretty happy with the activities. Overall, I think it’s a good place for your loved ones.

"Friendly staff, but old and dim atmosphere"

The staff was nice, but the place felt old and dim.

"Mixed experience at assisted living facility with staffing and amenities."

The place looks clean overall, but not so much in the hallways. Families should visit often. The staff treats patients well, but there aren't enough caregivers. They're nice but overworked, struggling to meet everyone's needs. The food varies from good to too spicy, which is tough for my loved one. We got a good rate, but the services are lacking. The building is old with few electrical outlets. They're supposed to turn patients every 2 hours, but they don't always do it.

"Great care services, highly recommended despite food and activity issues"

Our loved one stayed here for a month. Because of their health, they couldn't join the activities and didn't really like the food. The care services are amazing, and we'd recommend this place to others.

"A Caring Place That Feels Like Home!"

Great Community! Highly recommend. They really care for residents and make families feel at home.

"Fantastic care and beautiful setting at Morningside!"

I'm really happy with the care my loved one gets here. The staff is attentive, friendly, and caring. They keep everyone active and involved. It's great knowing my loved one can stay here as they age. The enclosed courtyard is beautiful and feels like a park. I would recommend Morningside to everyone!

"Excessive Fees, Poor Service at Assisted Living Facility"

This place looks nice; everybody seems nice too. When my mom pressed her call button for help, it could take as long as half an hour before someone showed up. That's way too long when you're waiting to get to the bathroom. If she asked for medicine for her pain, we'd sometimes have to wait another half an hour for the nurse to bring it. Sadly, this place makes you sign a contract where you need to pay for an extra month AFTER your loved one has passed away. We were there for just over a month and the payments came to more than $12,000 for a small, one-room place. When you try to discuss the fairness of charging a family who lost someone for a room that person can't even use, they blame it on the headquarters. If you try to call the headquarters, they don't even pick up or call you back. I don't think this is a good place to choose to care for your loved one or to spend your hard-earned money.

"Nice, clean, but small rooms."

I toured this community. It was small, and the rooms felt more like a study than a bigger room. I wanted a place that felt more like an apartment. The community was nice and clean, but not what I was looking for. I would recommend that families tour this community for their loved one's care.

"Friendly staff, clean facility, but not wheelchair accessible. Recommend for care."

I liked the tour, but since I need a motorized chair, this place wouldn't work for us. The people who work here were nice and kind. Everything looked clean and nice. I think it's good if you don't need a wheelchair.

"Gathered Information"

I went on a tour to check out an assisted living facility for a short stay and also to gather information for the future. The tour was well done, and they provided valuable feedback. I especially liked that it's conveniently located across from my workplace. Unfortunately, I didn't end up using the community because they couldn't confirm availability.

"Tour #3: Nice, But Not Quite Right Assisted Living Facility"

I appreciated this place but the memory care unit was upstairs. The garden they had was wonderful, but my mom wouldn't be able to enjoy it because it wasn't a fully enclosed yard. There was a deck behind the kitchen, bar-crossed, which I wasn't a fan of. Unfortunately, they didn't have any rooms open, and the tour guide seemed uninterested and only going through the motions.

"Food Quality Needs Improvement"

The food at Morningside in the West End isn't great. A chef makes it, but it's too fancy. People here would like simpler meals, I believe. Overall, it's been okay. But it's tough in situations like this.

"Top-notch care and staff!"

This place is amazing, with amazing employees. They really put in the effort to hire the most caring and skilled staff. Everyone’s goal is to give the best service to the residents and their families. I never saw any “attitude” problems. The caregivers in the Bridge to Recovery Program are super patient and understand the special care needed for dementia patients. My mom was so lucky to live here, and I felt very lucky to be part of the “family” there.

"Excellent care and clean facility; highly recommended."

My Grandma stayed at Morningside for a few weeks before she passed away from pancreatic cancer. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a care facility. I checked out several places, and this one was by far the best. The managers and staff are excellent—always helpful and dependable. They really cared for my Grandma. The facility was always clean, and everyone was friendly. Even my Grandma, who was very picky, liked the food. I would definitely recommend this place again and again.

"Friendly and caring staff, perfect place for my dad!"

Everyone at Morningside is super friendly and professional. It’s really easy for my dad to get around there. In the 2 months he’s been there, he’s become very comfortable with everyone and everything. He’s changed from being shy to outgoing in no time. The place is very clean and well-kept. My dad loves the food and gets plenty to eat. The staff seems to know each resident and their needs really well. Morningside is the perfect place for my dad. I’m not stressed about him anymore because he’s in great hands.

"Neat, Spacious, Bright"

The place is neat, spacious, and bright.

"Friendly, caring staff with great service and lower fees"

Morningside in the West End is a very friendly place. All their staff are outgoing, friendly, and kind. The nursing staff, especially the management and supervisors, seem more qualified than those at other places my wife has stayed. The care and service here are much better, and the monthly fee is lower than at The Crossings and Parkview in Richmond, VA.

"Decent Facility with Space, Needs Procedural Improvements"

This facility is fairly good and really neat. It’s quite a distance away from my place, but I still made a visit lasting four hours. However, during my stay, I noticed certain tasks which should be carried out every couple of hours didn’t happen at all. Moreover, some directions weren’t properly adhered to. Brigitta, whom I believe is an amazing woman and the promotional manager, is one of the reasons we picked Morningside. It seemed to us that she was more involved and less business-minded than another community we saw. Unfortunately, the emergency alert still doesn't function, and it's been broken for over a month now. On a more positive note, it's great that they have a room that is big and appealing.

"We really liked it."

We really liked it. The people were friendly and it was clean. We chose a Morningside closer to us because we liked it so much, but the other one was a bit too far away. We’re very happy with the Morningside we picked.

"Outstanding care, clean facility, and top-notch activities program"

I'm very impressed with this facility. The management team is excellent. The nurse in charge of the dementia and Alzheimer's section is very knowledgeable. The cleanliness of the facility is outstanding. The accommodations were exactly what I wanted and expected. The activities program is the best I've seen in the Richmond area. This is the perfect place for Mom! I plan to make a firm commitment within the next ten days. The resident fees are also reasonable and acceptable for my family.

"Friendly Staff and Enjoyable Visit"

I came to visit this place, and I really enjoyed it. The staff was super friendly. However, it was a bit farther away, so I didn't end up choosing it.

"Great Staff, Nice Place"

We are really happy with this place. The staff is awesome. The nurses are super caring and really good at their jobs. It’s a very nice place. The only downside my dad mentioned is that the food is just okay, probably average. But the staff is a huge plus.

"Small, Controlled Community with High Staff Turnover"

This place was a pretty tiny, controlled community, and I felt like my dad would prefer a place with more social opportunities (though it didn't make a difference in the end). It also seemed like they had more staff members quit than usual.

"Pleasant Facilities with Convenient Amenities"

The assisted living facility has pleasant hallways with tasteful decorations, reminiscent of Spring Arbor. There's no code required to enter the memory unit, but there is one for exiting. Residents don't hear the alarm (which is a plus for me), and it's located at the nurse's station and downstairs. Doctors visit the building, but for dental appointments, you'd need to take your mom out. The apartment is great, conveniently situated near the nurses' station and dining area. You can even place a lift chair in the common area for your mom to use. The Executive Director is responsive to care concerns and seems understanding of our needs.

"Two Years Ago Visit for Mom was Not Impressive."

They had a physical therapist on location, which was a plus. However, the layout of the apartment I saw was ridiculous - a complete no-go. The dining room was at the back of the premises and it had a somewhat off-putting smell. It's definitely not at the top of my options list.

"Bright, Clean, and Friendly"

This place is one of my favorites. I really liked all the different spots to hang out in. The big hallway where everyone gathers is cool. The room I saw was small but had everything I needed. It even had its own shower, which was easy to get to. When I visited, everyone was having fun bowling together. The staff were nice, and the place was clean and colorful. I liked that we could pick our food like fancy waiters bring it to us. I wasn’t a fan of having to pay extra for stuff like cable, though. It felt like they were charging for every little thing. But besides that, the fees seemed fair depending on what you need.

"Assisted Living Gets Better with Renovations"

This place is in a good spot, and they're almost done with their fixing up, which makes it look really nice. They have a rehab center right there and their own rehab team, which is cool. The boss was super helpful - really friendly and easy to talk to.
