"Sunrise Staff: Kind, Pricey, Overall Okay"
I think the staff at Sunrise is wonderful. They’re kind to my mom and easy to talk to. They communicate well with me as the caretaker. Mom feels they could improve their communication with her, but she can be difficult. Overall, I’m happy with Sunrise, even though it’s a bit pricey for this area.

"Inconsistent Management, Helpful Staff, Clean Environment: Overall Good Experience"
I came to this place 4 1/2 years ago. Back then, the person in charge was super reliable. She knew everything and always had an answer for my questions. But now, things have changed. The boss isn't steady anymore. The good thing is, the other workers are still nice and try hard to help us with what we need. The place is kept tidy, and it feels cozy like home.

"Friendly Staff and Enjoyable Activities!"
I've settled into my new home here for over a month. The staff is friendly and helpful, although they do have their favorites. The activities, like bingo and mahjong, are enjoyable. I appreciate the musical entertainment. It'd be great if staff wore their badges all the time so I could recognize them. As a new resident, I sometimes forget their names. The food is satisfying.

"Grateful for Supportive Staff!"
Many friendly people to laugh with. The kitchen staff worked really hard to provide my gluten-free diet, so I don't get sick. I've gained weight, but I'm not complaining. Lots of happy moments in this community. Sometimes things break down, like the elevator, but the staff patiently helps my husband use the stairs. I can't thank them enough.

I’d tell others to check it out. We chose this place 'cause it feels like home. They really need new carpets, though.

"Facility Tour Feedback"
I visited this place for a tour. They showed me rooms, but they all had views of dumpsters. My tour guide was absent, so a chef gave me the tour instead. The place was tidy and looked nice, but it felt dim indoors. It seemed too small for my loved one. Also, it cost more than other places nearby and had pricey extras.

"Top Choice for Assisted Living!"
After looking at different places, Sunrise at Countryside stood out. It has lots of things to do, and the surroundings are beautiful. You can relax indoors or outdoors. The people who work there are great. They're always nice, skilled, and kind, even on tough days. When families and staff work together, everyone does well!

"Good Tour, Not the Right Fit"
The tour was good and the staff were all helpful. The facility was just too big for us and there seemed to be a lot of staff changes. It just wasn't the right fit for my loved one.

"Assisted Living with Welcoming Atmosphere and Helpful Staff"
This place is nice, feels like home, and is kept up well. It's close to Dulles Town Center, but it's not easy to walk around because there aren't any sidewalks, and it's on a busy road. The tour was awesome; we learned a lot, and the staff was really nice and professional. Sunrise was ready for us when we came for our visit, which was impressive because only one other place, The Fairmont, was ready too. It seemed like Sunrise and The Fairmont really wanted our business, while the other places weren't as prepared and had to rush to put together a tour for us.

"Welcoming, clean community with friendly staff and good food."
My dad's doing great at Sunrise at Countryside. It's really nice and clean there. We picked it because it feels like home. The people who work there are super nice. I ate there with my dad and the food was really good. They want everyone to join in the fun activities. It's too hot to go outside now, but they have benches to sit and relax. I'd tell other people to check out Sunrise at Countryside for sure.

"Good Place, but Some Concerns"
My loved one's stay at Sunrise is going fine so far. The staff are attentive, and the facility is good. There are lots of chances for my loved one to socialize and join in activities. The location and price are good for our family. I am a bit worried because the staff think my loved one can handle independent living, and I am not so sure, but I want to see what happens. I'm sure she's in good hands!

"Abysmal Care: Unfit Staff, Neglect and Dismal Safety Standards!"
Avoid This Place: Poor Staffing, Neglect, and Unfit Facilities!" It's unclear why some people would base their review on a singular short visit, or the flashy display that's put on. This place fervently makes claims about having a well-trained staff. Yet, that's far from the truth. Simply because the head nurse is competent doesn't mean the rest of the staff is as capable or have the necessary experience to care for those in assisted living. Incidents like residents falling or not receiving their medication on time are not uncommon. There's no written record of any type of event or incident, and the handoff of information for the next shift, or even the weekend crew, is a total void. And let's not forget about the showers in Assisted Living being non-ADA compliant. It's clear that they've thrown the safety of our seniors to the wind, given that a small, cautionary stool won't even fit in the shower. It appears being granddad in means more to them than investing the substantial amount of money they take in to rectify the problem.

"Hazardous Care, Unsympathetic Staff at Sunrise Assisted Living"
My 81-year-old mom, who uses a wheelchair, received terrible care at Sunrise assisted living. Her needs, such as oxygen supply, restroom assistance, and hygiene maintenance, were negligently overlooked. Almost every day, I found a fresh cut or bruise on her legs, hindering her recovery process. These injuries were often unexplained by the Sunrise staff, and a wound nurse had to constantly supervise their progress. The caregiver assigned to my mom was impolite and scared her, prompting us to switch caregivers. I never felt at peace leaving my mom there, as she couldn't do much by herself. Moreover, whenever she required restroom assistant and pressed her alert button, no one came. I strongly advise against sending any loved ones to this atrocious place! After just one month, I decided to move my mom out of Sunrise and care for her myself. I'm confident I can provide better care!

"Assisted Living Place Review"
I checked out this place when considering care for a family member. It was pretty tidy overall, and the staff were nice. But, I wasn't a fan of how it's set up. The part for assisted living felt too small and gloomy. The rooms were tiny and looked hard to move around in if someone needed a walker or wheelchair.

"Clean and friendly assisted living facility, but pricey."
I visited this place when I was checking out places for my family member's care. It was clean and tidy, and the people who worked there were nice and seemed like they knew what they were doing. But it was one of the more expensive choices we looked at. We chose a different place in the end, but I would have thought about this one for my family member.

"Issues with communication and medication at Sunrise Countryside"
We picked Sunrise Countryside for our family member because they had immediate space available, it was close to our home, they claimed they could cater to all needs including hospice care, and the staff seemed friendly and welcoming. The residents appeared lively, interacting in the shared spaces and with their doors open - it felt lively. But we soon realized this place doesn't have a full-time Director or Head of Nursing. These roles are being taken on by other staff until they find permanent people. This has led to confusion and mishaps between everyone involved - the family, nurses, and helpers. Our family member has Kaiser insurance, which they assured us wouldn't be an issue. They get their medications from Kaiser or free from the VA. We opted for the medication management plan at Sunrise and gave all the prescriptions when we checked in. However, the acting Head of Nursing informed us that they weren't going to manage any refills since we weren't using their pharmacy. According to her, it's up to the family to keep track of and hand-deliver the refills, and they wouldn't take any deliveries from the VA or Kaiser. Moreover, all of the medications had to be "repackaged" by Sunrise's pharmacy, and this would cost us extra. This wasn't explained to us before, and we found out that their medication management only consists of administering the meds as prescribed. Our family member feels the food is mediocre. The facility itself, including the building and grounds, is quite nice. The helpers are alert and responsive but it was a letdown when our family member developed a skin condition that went unnoticed and unreported by the staff.

"Mixed Experience in Independent Living Facility"
My mom's been here 3 years. Had 3 directors. Sometimes no director. Some good workers, but management doesn't get what residents need. Fancy stuff like new wallpaper and a bistro aren't what folks want. Furniture's nice, but not comfy for seniors. Food's not great, needs fixing. We need a director who cares about us and our caregivers. Food needs to be better too. Activities room's too small. Only good thing is we can get some help with daily stuff.

"Nice Living, Slow Internet, Great Balcony"
This place for independent living is pretty good. It's where I went first. But there's a big problem the internet is super slow, like old-fashioned dial-up, which just won't cut it. On the bright side, the apartment's living room has a balcony, which is awesome.

"Mixed feelings about Sunrise: Beautiful but pricey, limited amenities."
Toured Sunrise 4/24/14. The place looks nice. Staff checks on residents who aren't out by 11 am. It's expensive, and you only get one meal per day. There's an extra $25 charge for trips. The kitchen areas in the apartments are a bit cramped. Laundry rooms are only on the second and third floors and have limited hours. No laundry on the first floor. The food is fresh and there's a menu each day, but only one meal is included. You can get a three-meal plan, but I didn't find out how much it costs.

"Independent Living Great, Assisted Living Lacks at This Facility"
My mom really liked staying in the Independent Living section here. The people who work here are usually pretty nice. But the Assisted Living part doesn't look so good. It seems like the folks there don't have much to do because there isn't enough space for lots of activities. Plus, they squish a lot of people into the building to make more money. The people in Independent Living are scared they might have to move to Assisted Living. You often hear them say, "I hope I don't end up over there." It would be way better if this place was only for Independent Living because that's what they do best.

"Recent Changes in Assisted Living Facility"
I like this place! But, my friend thinks the food stinks. They got bought by another company, so things are changing a lot. The part where people live on their own seems better, more fun stuff to do. The nurse is cool, and we both like her.

"Good Food, Frequent Staff Changes"
My dad lived on his own at the assisted living place. During meals, everyone had their own spot and menu. The servers would come by and take their orders. It felt friendly, and I liked eating there too. If my dad got lost, the folks at the front desk helped him because it wasn’t a big place. We had to move him mainly because of the people in charge and because there wasn’t a shower for disabled folks. I’m not very tall, and even I found the shower too cramped. The building is old, about 20 years, and they’ve been fixing it up. The person who used to run the place wasn’t very nice, and most of the receptionists were grumpy, except one. While my dad was there, they had three different bosses. They weren’t terrible, but when we left, no one said bye or told me what to do with the keys or the bills. I had to figure it out myself. The other residents didn’t even know my dad was gone, and they were sad about it. They kept changing the nurses and activity leaders, and they didn’t even have a cook when we left. All these changes made things pretty mixed up. They really should’ve replaced the front desk person right away.

"Decent Care but Expensive and Not Specialized"
I’m not sure if I’d go there if I were you. It costs a lot, like $5,500 a month. That’s a lot of money, but the care was pretty good. I’m not dissatisfied. We picked it because it was the least expensive and convenient. My relative sat by himself in his room and had problems because he didn’t want to be there. It wasn’t a pleasant experience for him. The main issue was he was the only blind patient, and I don’t think they had much experience with that. They did the best they could.

"Looks Can Deceive in Assisted Living Facilities"
Although the building looks lovely and the staff seems nice, don't be tricked. The rooms in the assisted living section are quite tiny. The floors not clean, and staff form a habit of disregarding you. The meals served are repetitive and not good. The people in charge of cases are not well coordinated. If you need a caregiver, prepare to wait at least half an hour. The carpet is dirty with stain marks and rarely gets a vacuum or deep clean. If someone you love falls out of bed, all they do is just give you a call. Even though bed rails are not provided, you have to argue for other safety measures like a floor pad to cushion a fall or a bed alarm. Plus, expect to order these yourself and pay out of pocket.
