"Good Overall, Food Needs Improvement"

The facility is generally good, but the food could be better. The meals, especially those with sauces like Salisbury steak, are too salty. They should also offer more food choices and alternative options daily.

"Mixed Feelings About Sunrise of Mt. Vernon"

Our family visited Sunrise of Mt. Vernon in person. It was good in its own way. Depending on your loved one's needs and finances, we might suggest this place to other families. It's a nice community, but it's too expensive for our loved one.

"Decent Facility with Friendly Staff and Clean Environment"

I visited Sunrise of Mt Vernon while looking for a place for a family member to live with assistance. The place was alright. It was clean and the people were nice. The feeling of the place and the person who showed us around were nice too.

"Good tour, helpful staff, need full meal."

Our family had an in-person tour, which was good. The salesperson was helpful. We had a small meal that was good, but we wanted to try a full meal to make a decision.

"Enjoyed being there"

Mom enjoyed the amenities when she lived here. She was comfortable but felt uneasy not knowing what happened to her friends who left. The food was good, and the activities were okay. She worried about whether some of the chairs were clean before she sat in them during activities. I would recommend this community.

"Mom is happy and well cared for!"

This is an excellent community for my mom. The staff is amazing and very caring. The menu has a lot of good options. I like knowing that she stays active with many daily activities. We're really happy that she is making friends and enjoys the care she is getting. We would recommend this community for its great care and value for other families.

"Enjoyable Walk-through, Helpful Staff, Well-Maintained Place"

I enjoyed my walk-through of this place a lot. It all went smoothly. The folks working there were really pleasant and nice. They shared lots of helpful details and did a good job answering my questions. From what I could see, the place was very well-maintained and tidy. It was a pretty great experience overall.

""More Than Meets the Eye: Beware of Sunrise Mount Vernon""

Sunrise at Mount Vernon, an assisted living home, has a bunch of ongoing problems. The staff who look after the residents are not properly trained, the food they serve is often cold and doesn't taste good, and they often don't change the bed sheets. They also have consistent issues with giving residents the right medicine. The sales team, however, paints a way better picture. The place might seem nice at first, but like the old saying goes, "all that glitters is not gold." Also, the place was recently called out by the Virginia Department of Social Services for breaking some serious rules. I strongly suggest that you look into this place really well before deciding to move a family member there.

"Positive Tour Experience, But Too Far to Travel"

I had a good time touring this place. It looked really nice and clean. The staff was friendly and answered my questions well. But it's too far for us to travel regularly. Overall, it was a nice experience.

"Okay Visit but Not a Great Fit for My Sister"

I wasn't happy with what this place offered. It wasn't a good fit for my sister. The folks there were pretty nice and the staff was very friendly. The place was really clean. But, the people living there were way older than my sis, so I didn't think she'd click with them. Our tour around the place was okay and people were nice.

"Great experience with Sunrise at Mount Vernon! Needs better staffing."

Our time at Sunrise at Mount Vernon has been really good! The new boss here is working really hard and doing a great job overall! The workers here are super friendly, and they mostly take really good care of the people who live here. I've noticed a few problems with the staffing not being consistent. Sometimes, since our family member moved in, they didn't have enough staff over the weekend. But they're quick to respond and listen to any complaints or ideas you have, so hopefully they'll fix the staffing problem.

"Misrepresentation about Medication Management Fees"

At first, I believed we were tricked about the fees for managing medications. They gave us a pamphlet that said it would be 14 dollars a day. What they left out is that it's only for up to 7 medicines. They didn't explain any of this. The meals are pretty good but the service could be better. Their billing department messes up a lot. That being said, my mom likes it there. The staff is nice. The place is well-lit and welcoming.

"Decent Place, But Not Right for My Parents"

The place was pretty nice, but it's not right for my parents. There isn't any parking close by. You have to park behind, far on the side, or on the street! They don't have ovens, and you can't use toaster ovens either. The rooms are smaller with less closet space, and there's basically no kitchen or living area. In the two-bedroom units, people use the second room as a den, but it doesn't have a closet. That room costs $185 per day, which is over $5,000 per month. They offer lots of services, but you pay extra for everything. Medication management is more affordable for Dad, especially when he needs someone to measure and give him insulin. But with the small room size and no option to cook, my parents would be really unhappy.

"Stay Away from Sunrise: Bad Care and Poor Communication"

My Dad was in the dementia unit of this place about 9 years ago. The salesperson was friendly and said her mom lived here, but I have my doubts. There's a garden for the residents, but they never bothered to bring my Dad outside. He got pneumonia and even though his doctor told them to start him on an antibiotic I got from the pharmacy, they ignored the advice because the nurse had left for the day. My Dad fell at some point but no one told me until I saw the yellowing bruises. The evening employees seemed eager to clear dinner and get the residents in bed. They charged an initial fee of like $5,000 supposedly for painting and care, nonrefundable and added to the first month's rent. I checked out Sunrise's Springfield location once and worried about how dementia residents on higher floors could escape in case of a fire. Sunrise now runs the Fairfax location too, and when I went there I couldn't talk to anyone about finding a place for my Mom because they were in a meeting. I didn't get a call back for 2 days. Don't pick a facility just because it looks nice. I wouldn't send anyone to Sunrise!

"Great tour, but smelled bad and no pricing info"

The tour was great and I really liked what they had to say, but no one was available that day to talk about the price. I used one of their bathrooms in the dining room, and it smelled awful. The smell hit you as soon as you walked into the facility. I’m not sure if someone had an accident that day or what. Besides the smell, which might have just been random, it was better than the other Sunrise. It was sunnier, more open, and the residents seemed happier. A bunch of them were going to a movie, and they have a setup where a person is assigned to a group of people to make it more personal. It sounded like they had a pretty decent setup, but I had a feeling it was going to be expensive because of the price of the other Sunrise.
