"Warm and Friendly Assisted Living at Sunrise of Reston"
My stepdad didn't like the seating arrangement in the dining area; he thought it was too cramped. He also felt there were too many women overall, but he tends to complain about everything. On a personal note, I found Sunrise of Reston Town Center to be a very welcoming and friendly place.

"Smaller Rooms, Pleasant Facility"
We visited Sunrise of Reston Town Center while looking for a place for my loved one. The facility was pleasant, but the rooms were smaller than another nearby option we ultimately picked.

"Great care and clean rooms; mom would return if needed"
My mom had a good experience here after her surgery. She wouldn’t mind coming back if needed. We haven’t had any problems with the nurses, the care, or the staff. They’re not perfect, but they’re better than some other places she’s been. Her room meets her needs and is clean, and she likes the food.

"Great services, close to family and hospital"
We were really impressed with the range of services provided and how professional the staff were. We could organize all of Mom’s care at a place that is close to both a hospital and family homes.

"Steer Clear! This Assisted Living Facility is a Complete Disaster!"
Please, don't let your family member stay here! This place is absolutely the worst. My mom often had to wait for over an hour and a half after pressing her call button before getting any help. The first night she was here, she fell out of her bed and had to lie on the floor for more than an hour before anyone came. This isn't unusual; it's the normal amount of time it takes for them to respond. The meals here are really bad. The people who work here don't seem to know what they're doing. I've seen a lot of assisted living places, and this is one of the worst by far. I know because my mom has been in different ones over the years. Despite having had a stroke and needing help because she can't move her left side, she needs less care than some other people here. I feel terrible for the people who live here and don't have family who can stand up for them. This is a terrible place. If you need to talk to the people in charge... good luck! It took almost an entire month for us to get a response. In short, please don't let your family member stay here. I checked out all the places around here, and sadly, this was the best one. We haven't been here long - just a month - and already my mom has had too many problems. Considering the amount they charge for the "level of care"... it's a total joke. If you can, keep looking for other places. Don't believe the people who work in these places and sign you up. I promise you... once you meet them and sign the contract, you'll never see them again.

"Disappointed in this Sunrise Facility"
Maria is always missing. She's never in her office and doesn't call back. Such a badly managed place! Really sad at this specific Sunrise.

" Unfriendly Staff and Overpriced: Time to Find New Facility "
I've had family at this assisted living facility for over a year, and I agree with some other reviewers: this place really needs to shape up. When I enrolled my loved one, I was fooled about a lot of things, particularly the quality of care and the cost. A staff, who's in charge of Wellness, honestly shouldn't work with people because she's so unfriendly. The Executive Director just avoids problems by flipping the blame onto your family member instead of fixing the issues at hand. Three times in the last month, my loved one used the alarm button and help never arrived. This is beyond wrong. This facility seems more interested in how much they can charge you for services not given than actual resident wellbeing. The meals are flavorless – when my relative, who's not picky, complains about food, I know it's not good. I've had meals at three different assisted living centers, and this one is worse than school cafeteria grub. Although the facility is in a nice location, I'm currently searching for a better spot for my loved one. This place just isn't up to standard.

"Aggravated by Billing Errors and Lack of Activities at Reston Sunrise"
My mom was at Reston Sunrise for about 2 and a half weeks, and it was really bad for both of us. They hardly had any activities that would interest folks who are sharp and would appreciate some fun. I saw lots of residents just sitting around because there was just nothing to do. My mom was forced to stay in her room all day watching TV. She was very unhappy compared to the Sunrise place she was at in New Jersey. Thankfully, she moved to the Fair Oaks Sunrise and she has been pretty content there for the last couple weeks. When I saw my final bill, there were some things that didn't make sense. Maria [removed] explained to me that they mistakenly charged my mom for things like help with showers, getting dressed, and using the bathroom. She admitted it was their fault and agreed to fix the bill. But when I got the updated copy, the mistake wasn't corrected. I talked to Kara Le, the billing lady, and she said she needed Maria's okay to fix the problem. I tried reaching out to Maria for four days until she eventually okayed the fix. It was exasperating to try and pay my bill and finding no one willing to help. Thankfully, Kara finally took care of the wrong charges and I settled the bill. I'm very relieved that my mom is out of there and that I'm done dealing with them. Maria [removed] is bad at her job and doesn't know how to interact with people or handle problems. When I would call to speak to her, no one could find her. Overall, this was a stressful and frustrating experience with most of the people at Reston Sunrise. Janet from sales and Amber from the main office were the only good things about this place.

"Heads Up! Frustrating Experience at Reston's Sunrise Senior Living!"
My family and I are really unhappy with Sunrise Senior Living in Reston, VA. The place looks nice, which at first, got us interested. But a lot of the employees, the managers, care workers, even the folks who serve food, are cold and unfriendly. This is the last thing you want for your family member. We've had to deal with the staff ignoring the supposedly perfect new alarm system, not properly giving out medications— even after several meetings, phone calls, and written instructions, and now there's nowhere to park! They've gotten rid of all the guest parking spots and now you've got to find a spot on the street if you're lucky! And on top of all this, the food is terrible. For the crazy amount of money we pay for my family member's care, I really wish we looked into other facilities more thoroughly before deciding. But now that our loved one is uneasy with change, it would just be too unsettling to move them - and Sunrise knows this! I recommend to everyone to not just check out a lot of places, but also talk to the residents and their families to get a true picture of the place. Don't just rely on how nice the place looks or rumor. We're so frustrated because we're afraid that if we complain to the big bosses, our loved one will be treated even worse. That's why we've chosen to leave this review without saying who we are.

"Caring Staff for Memory Care"
My mom stayed in the memory care unit. There were lots of caregivers who were really nice. They knew how to help people with memory problems like my mom. The staff were trained well and took good care of her while she was there.

"Caring Staff, Costly Management Decisions"
The helpers in the place where they take care of people with memory issues are really great, and I’d tell anyone they’re good to have around. But, it feels like the bosses are always trying to get more money from you. They make up reasons to change who shares a room, even when they know those people don’t get along. Then they tell you to get a room just for one person, but it costs a lot more.

"Nice facility with friendly staff, minor maintenance issues."
It's an older place, so some of the carpet in the elevator could use fixing, but overall, it's kept pretty clean. The staff has been super nice to our family and my loved one seems to like it here. Sometimes there's a bit of confusion with the care stuff, but that might just be because of miscommunication. The chef has talked to her about what she likes to eat, and there have been a few meals she's really enjoyed. We looked at a bunch of places, but this one is definitely one of the nicer ones.

"Short-Term Memory Guard System"
This place was a bit smaller than the other Sunrise facilities. They had the wander guard system, but they didn't seem eager to use it for someone beyond the early stages. We wanted her to have it throughout her stay, no matter how long that might be.

"Meal Service Needs Improvement"
My dad moved here for help, but meals disappoint. Feels like a cafeteria, not dining room. They give one menu per table, no asking what people want, just bring a big tray of food. Dad needs more than one meal, but they never offer. Fruit for dessert was promised, but not given. Dessert trays are huge, no choice. Food comes plated, covered in plastic, not always hot. It's the highlight of dad's day, but he can't enjoy activities. The staff, however, are great listeners and make changes when asked.
