"Happy Resident Recommends Welcoming Community"
I’ve been living in my own little house at The Colonnades for nearly seven years now. It’s an awesome place to live. I’ve met lots of new people and even bumped into some old buddies. Everyone here, both the folks who work here and my neighbors, have made me feel right at home. You can find everything you need close by like stores, banks, doctors, and fun places to go. If you don’t have a car, no worries! The Colonnades has a team that will drive you around. Plus, if you ever need extra help, there’s a Health Center here with Assisted Living, a place for serious medical care, and even a special area for people with memory issues. I had to stay in the medical care part once, and the people there were super nice and took great care of me. Choosing to move here was a smart move for me. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with taking care of a house anymore. This place is beautiful, the people are friendly, and I love all the stuff we can do here. I totally think you should check it out.

"A Warm and Friendly Community at The Colonnades"
When I was visiting retirement communities, I noticed how friendly everyone was at The Colonnades. This warmth and sense of community made me decide to move in eight months ago. I'm happy to say I'm now part of this friendly place, joining activities and classes, and gardening in my raised garden bed with other gardeners when the weather is good. From the start, the marketing person who helped me was very caring, and all the staff are positive and really care about us. The only downside for me was the dining experience. There wasn't a hostess, so finding a seat at a table with strangers was a bit scary. I gave my feedback, and I see they're trying to fix it. In the months I've been here, I've made many new friends. Everyone I pass in the halls always says hello. I am truly grateful for my new home with its lively community.

"Great Support During Tough Times"
I just moved in two days ago, so I’m still new here. But before I moved in, the help I got was amazing. The person in charge of sales was like a shining star for me. My wife got really sick three weeks before we were supposed to move in. We knew she needed a lot of care to get better. She was in a hospital far away, about 200 miles from the Colonnades. The whole team at the Colonnades worked together to move her to their own care unit. I can’t tell you how much of a relief that was for me. Big thumbs up to them!

The tour was nice, staff friendly, but chose another option.

"Unimpressed with Assisted Living Facility's Staff and Kitchen Arrangements"
Despite Covid, there were hardly any activities. There weren't enough staff, and the meal set-up was too hard for residents who can't hear or see well to understand the menu. Some staff who've been there a long time were nice and hardworking, but a lot of workers from outside agencies kept coming and going. I bet the independent living is nice, but I wouldn't suggest the assisted living part of this place.

"Quiet Atmosphere, Not Enough Activity"
We visited The Colonnades, and it seemed nice, but it was too quiet for our liking. We were looking for somewhere with more happening and less like a place for seniors.

"Not Close Enough: Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living"
The tour was just okay. I wanted my loved one to be closer to me so I could easily visit, but this community didn't allow that. .

"Great Staff, But Pricey"
We visited this place to see if it’s good for our family member. The tour was really great, and we liked it a lot. The people working there were the best compared to other places we’ve seen. We would’ve been happy to move our loved one here if it wasn’t so costly.

"Colonnades Assisted Living: Staffing & Utility Issues Abound"
Be aware of up-to-date reviews; The Colonnades is dealing with an increasing number of daily issues. Frequently, there's no electricity, heating and hot water. A major plumbing issue made them close their kitchen. Now, food is served from a makeshift kitchen. There's no table service in the dining hall - they serve food buffet-style only. The worst part is they're always short on staff. Even with job fairs, they just can't recruit and retain employees, from the servers to nurses to managers. Those who are still there aren't fun to interact with. They're currently funding a huge expansion to the dining room instead of fixing existing problems. There are fresher and finer choices for senior living in Charlottesville. Do some scouting!

"Steer Clear of Memory Care at Charlottesville Sunrise Community"
For over a decade, my family member was content in both Independent and Assisted Living options at the Charlottesville Sunrise Community/Colonnades. However, if your loved one is in need of memory care, I beg you, DO NOT consider using the reminiscence community.

"They prioritize independent living residents"
My family member stayed at this place for a little while, working with the rehab team. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was really good, and they had healthy options. Plus, they had a nice salad bar every evening. Unfortunately, they didn't have any openings in the assisted living area because those rooms are reserved for independent living residents when they need them. If you're looking for rehab, I recommend checking out this community.

"Wonderful Tour and Warm Welcome at Colonnades"
We had a great tour of Colonnades. [Removed] showed us around and gave us lots of details about the place. They even offered us lunch and a chance to meet some residents. We hope to do that next time we visit our kids in Charlottesville.

"Impressive Assisted Living Facility with Exceptional Staff and Atmosphere"
I only checked out the independent living area, not the assisted living or memory care. It's a really nice place that's been around for 25 years. It's super clean, has lots of light, and the people who work there seem to get along well with the residents. I didn't want to give it a rating because "fabulous" seems too over-the-top, but it's definitely better than just "good." The person showing me around, Mrs. Shuffield, was friendly, knew her stuff, and answered all my questions.

"Decent Facility, Lacked Space For Needed Care"
We had both good and not so good times at The Colonnades. Its looks and the services offered were solid. But, my family member had to shift from living on their own to needing help, and they had no room. How they managed this wasn't great.

"Perfect place with great staff and beautiful surroundings"
So far, everything is great at The Colonnades. It's perfect. The grounds are nice with wooded trails. My cottage is beautiful. Since I'm single and have no children, it's a great deal for me. The team here is excellent. They wash my belongings weekly. The dining room feels like a restaurant with a chef trained in Paris. The staff has been here a long time, which is a good sign. They get me whatever I need or want.

"Great value and care at The Colonnades!"
We checked out around 8 places. The Colonnades has a similar price to most but offers more value: great facilities, on-site and off-site activities, flexible meal times with lots of choices, well-finished apartments, and a clean, beautiful environment. It’s close to shopping, cultural activities, and just 10 minutes from the airport. It provides full services for independent living, skilled nursing, and memory care. The staff and residents are friendly and helpful. I’m so happy my mom moved there.

"Great job keeping her safe and happy!"
They’ve done a great job! They noticed she’s at risk of falling and took steps to stop it. They put alarms on her bed and wheelchair. The place is clean and the staff is super friendly. It’s an awesome place!

"Amazing staff and friendly community!"
The staff here is amazing. Everyone is friendly and happy. The whole place has a great community feel, with both residents and staff being nice. The facility is a bit old, but it's well maintained. You can see some signs of age, like with the climate control and carpet style. Overall, it's a very nice place!
