"Assisted Living Facility Faces Management and Service Issues"

The assisted living facility has seen frequent turnover in leadership and staff. Prices were raised suddenly with short notice. Housekeeping is inconsistent, and there have been multiple turnovers. The nursing staff lacks consistency in communication, and there are concerns about resident oversight, especially in Memory Care. The reviewer's mom enjoys her social life but wishes for more dietary choices.

"Harmony at Oakbrook Overcharges, Poor Management, Damages Health"

My time with Harmony at Oakbrook was an absolute nightmare. It felt like they exploited my mother, a disabled veteran. They billed us an excessive amount and she wasn't even there for a full week before she had to be admitted to the VA hospital, where she has been ever since. I've got serious grievances against that place. If I had enough money, I'd buy Harmony at Oakbrook and fire every single person there. I would also advise others to check if the management team is reliable during my short stay. The entire management staff either resigned or were let go, some even after getting a promotion.

"Assisted Living Falls Short on Staff and Care"

It’s okay, but there aren’t enough staff. The nurses don’t assist my mom and avoid eye contact when I visit. I chose it because it seemed better than it actually is.

"New Director's Last Chance to Improve Care"

The assisted living facility just welcomed a new director. This is their final opportunity to make things right, or my mom will be relocated. For two years, I've been voicing my concerns about her not receiving two showers per week. Every time, I was assured that her shower time would be shifted from the midnight shift to the evening. However, her schedule remained unchanged. The new director has assured me that her shower time has been moved to the day shift. I was the only one changing her sheets. I found myself cleaning her bathroom at least once a week. The laundry was left unattended, and the sheets were not folded. Dirty clothes were left in the hamper, causing a foul smell.

"Assisted Living Center Review: Mixed Experience with Room for Improvement"

I want to start by saying the person who first showed us around Harmony at Oakbrooke, before they got let go, did a good job. But after that, they didn't follow up, get keys, or fix things on our checklist before my Mom moved in. They've let go of a bunch of staff, from the boss to salespeople, maintenance, cleaners, and activity organizers. So, my Mom moved in at a bad time. Her AC only got fixed two days ago. She was supposed to move in on one date, but it didn't happen until another date. Right now, there's a new boss trying to fix things and make residents feel better. It's been tough, especially with everything else going on.

"Utter Disregard by Harmony: Poor Service and Lost Laundry"

We pulled him out since most residents were also leaving because of the poor service provided by Harmony. They once let go almost all their staff without backup staff. Meal times turned into a nightmare because nobody was there to prep the food. Eventually, the nurses, annoyed, had to step in to cook. They didn't even provide snacks as they were supposed to. The staff, even the nurses, would totally disregard the residents. They'd haphazardly leave meds for dementia and visually impaired residents and then didn't take responsibility for any problems. They also offer laundry services, but somehow, most of the clothes get lost.

"Horrible Experience with Harmony's New Staff and Unkept Spaces."

Ever since the staff changed half a year ago, the care for residents has been terrible. The new health workers didn't even know my family member...they didn't recognize his name and even confessed to never meeting him. The living space was disgusting and reeked of urine because they let him sleep in it without washing his clothing or taking care of his personal cleanliness. They messed up his medications too. The people in charge don't reply to emails or return phone calls, so you can't get any information or answers. Don't go to Harmony.

"Failure to Provide Promised High-Quality Service"

They seem nice at first but totally dropped the ball. No one from the main office ever answered our emails. You're better off choosing another place. They swore up and down about excellent service, but we saw none of it. I wouldn't advise anyone to go there.

"Inconsistent service and security issues."

The workers were tired, food didn't match the menu, slow door, not enough cameras.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"

Overall, things have been pretty good here. Most of the staff are CNA's, supervised by LPN's. But there are no RN's overseeing the care. Our loved one is diabetic, and they're not checking her blood sugar. The communication with family isn't great. I'd recommend this place for Independent Living, but not for someone needing medical care.

"Harmony at Oakbrooke Review"

During our visit to Harmony at Oakbrooke, we spent a lot of time with them. They really tried to help us in our situation. However, we didn't feel it was the best place for our loved one.

"Chronic Problems and Insufficient Staffing at Assisted Living Facility"

Our experience at this assisted living facility has been largely disappointing since my mother moved in. She was admitted during a scorching hot summer and, unfortunately, her apartment's air conditioner was broken. It took the staff seven weeks to provide her with a new one, and within that period, the faulty air conditioner sporadically functioned but occasionally flooded the bathroom due to leakage problems. Regrettably, the alleged assistance from the executive director was subpar. I was compelled to bring the issue to the regional director's attention, and my mother's air conditioner was eventually replaced. However, it was disheartening to discover that the 'new' air conditioner was a unit from an unoccupied apartment within the compound, and not surprisingly, it also leaked and caused flooding in the bathroom! It is disappointing to find such issues in a facility that is merely four years old. During the hot season, the staff provided a spot cooler for my mother's bedroom that barely improved the temperature, and did nothing for the remaining spaces in her apartment. It was further disappointing to note that the services they had advertised like newspaper deliveries and regular housekeeping were not forthcoming. Besides that, the maintenance team was rather abrasive when my mother's microwave broke down. With all these problems, there was a lot of disturbance and unrest with maintenance staff constantly entering her apartment. In terms of food, the quality in the dining area was acceptable but there were frequent mess-ups when it came to carry out orders, with forgotten items or wrong orders being standard. One day during a visit, I had a fall due to cracked pavement and was surprised they didn't have a first aid kit. Furthermore, their smoke alarms would often be set off by residents using their microwaves. After an evacuation incident, we were told by the director that residents should wait for staff instruction before evacuating – something we weren't informed at orientation. Lastly, the common areas like the apartment hallways were not kept properly clean, and it took too long for dead bugs to be removed. The dining service has now been moved to buffet style, making it hard for the disabled. Overall, this facility has a serious staff issue, which clearly reflects in their leadership, and we've heard similar complaints about their assisted living side. The residents often seem neglected and we plan to move my mom elsewhere soon. Choosing this place felt misleading – like buying a timeshare. Thus, I wouldn't endorse this place.

"Newer facility, lacking staff presence, not ideal for mom."

The Harmony at Oakbrooke seemed nice at first glance. But when we visited, there weren't any people around neither staff nor residents. It's a newer place and doesn't seem to have been around for long. It just didn't feel like the right place for my mom.

"Great staff, clean, happy with memory care, highly recommend."

Harmony is clean with great staff. Housekeeping comes weekly to clean Mom's apartment, and she loves getting the newspaper and dining with friends. It’s easy for her to stay in touch with Dad in memory care, and we can visit as often as we want. After touring Harmony six months ago, we knew it was the right place when the time came. I appreciate what the memory care staff does, and I’m comfortable with them. Harmony was the best fit for us, and I’ve already recommended it to others. Another loved one has even moved into a Harmony in Virginia.

"Care Facility Fails to Keep Promises"

When we put my family member here, we were told by the person who sells the place that the staff turnover is low. That person left, and sadly, many other workers have come and gone. This means there aren't enough staff in the most important areas, like taking care of the people who live here. Because of this, my loved one isn't getting the good care they were promised or need.

"Great care and meals, but more staff needed for activities"

The community is short on staff right now and could use more help. My loved one is getting the care they need, but there aren't enough staff members. They really enjoy the meals and look forward to eating every time. We're working on getting them more involved in the activities. There are plenty of things to do, but we're trying to help them be more open to participating.
