The Crossings on the Peninsula

"Poor Leadership and Care at Harmony on the Peninsula"
In our experience, Harmony on the Peninsula is a lot less impressive than many other senior living facilities we've visited. Sure, it looks clean and nice inside, but there are deeper, bigger issues. A lot of them come from the fact that the management has been completely changed out in the last year and a half, and each new boss seemed even more lost and out-of-touch. The main boss swears she knows what she's doing, but she admits she doesn't have any medical training and it's obvious she's not popular or good at her job. There's a lot of unhappiness and quitting among the staff that's already too small. The food's not horrible, but the service during meals is a mess. There aren't enough workers and things are all over the place. One time, for instance, they forgot about our mom - she has really bad dementia - and they left her snoozing in her chair in the big dining room after everyone had finished eating.

"Improvements Needed at Assisted Living Facility"
Since my mom moved in a year ago, the place seems to be running without a main boss or a head nurse. When we had problems, the nurse in charge of memory care tried to help, but there wasn’t much follow-up. It feels like we’ve had three different area bosses since then. The biggest problem is making sure my mom gets help with her showers and hair washing twice a week. I ended up helping her myself to be certain it was done. The sheets are supposed to be changed weekly, but if they got wet because of an accident, they weren’t always changed. There’s not enough staff, and when my mom presses the help button, the response is slow. She often needed help in the bathroom. Things have gotten a bit better in the last two months, but it’s still not what we were promised. The place, Harmony, is advertising a lot on TV. Plus, there’s a new place opening up close by, Harpers Station at Yorktown, which will offer homes for people who can live on their own, need some help, or have memory issues.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short of Expectations"
My friend should know that Harmony's staff changes a lot, which made it hard for us to communicate. They often didn't give our mom her medicines on time. I'd suggest making sure your parent gets the right level of care there. Our mom needed more help as her memory got worse, but Harmony didn't meet her needs well. My sister had to help the staff take care of our mom every day, which was frustrating. We picked Harmony because it's close to my sister's house and the director promised a lot, but they've since left.

"Misleading Information, Lack of Memory Care Guidance Disappoints Families"
This place needs to do better at being honest when you bring a family member here. They showed me all the parts of assisted living, but they didn't explain what happens with people who need memory care.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
We chose this community for our loved one because it looked new. But I'd tell a friend not to go. The management needs improvement, especially when they keep changing staff.

"Facility Needs Improvement"
This place looks nice, but it costs a lot. The people in charge don't communicate well, especially about health stuff. The staff work hard, but they're not managed properly. There's only one doctor here, and it's not worth the high price. They need to do better.

"Lacking Attention: Be Vigilant for Proper Care in Assisted Living"
You still need to make sure your loved one is getting the attention they deserve. For instance, check on them every 2 hours. If staff is supposed to help with showering, they should be there. If they're supposed to change bedding and do laundry twice a week and it's not happening (even though it's part of the monthly rate), tell the manager. Don't ignore it. Overnight staff (from 11 pm to 7 am) seem to do only what they think they can get away with. Residents should get three meals and two snacks a day, but they hardly ever have snacks.

"Friendly staff, clean facility, but too many levels"
We toured Harmony on the Peninsula and had a good experience. The staff were very friendly, knew all the residents by name, and were involved. They did a great job following up with me after the tour. The facility was clean, and they let me peek into the kitchen. Since I used to work in that business, I knew that if the kitchen was clean, the rest of the place would be too. I appreciated them letting me do that. The only problem for us was the multiple levels. With my loved one’s lack of mobility, that was a big concern. I saw they had nursing staff on each floor though. If he were more mobile, this would have been a great fit. But sadly, it wasn’t what we were looking for.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs More Staff Engagement and Communication"
I think it's important for the staff to spend more time with the residents, talking and doing things together. When I've visited, I've noticed there aren't many activities for them to enjoy. They mostly sit in a circle in a room with a TV. Also, it's been hard to get clear answers about my loved one's care plan from the staff.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs More Staff and Activities"
It's okay overall, but they need more staff. I get it, everywhere's struggling with that now. No big complaints. Family and others didn't like the food sometimes. Some days it was okay, some days not so much. They could have more things to do. The place isn't great - it's a small rectangle, so they can't do much outside. Like, no room for a garden. But the care was really good. They were on top of giving out meds. The staff they have are working a lot. They're just short on people. The cost is a lot, but maybe they can't help it all. It's just tough for old folks on fixed incomes.

""Clear Pricing at Another Community""
I visited Harmony on The Peninsula, and it seemed fine. The tour was good. However, I decided to go with another community because they offered an all-inclusive rate, eliminating any uncertainty about care costs.

"Positive Comparison for Harmony on the Peninsula Assisted Living"
We liked Harmony on the Peninsula more than our chosen facility. The environment and rooms are excellent. Every room has kitchenettes and durable wall-to-wall carpet. It's conveniently close to my work, which would have been perfect. Unfortunately, it was out of our budget.

"Friendly Staff and Good Care, Recommended Assisted Living Facility"
The people who work here are really nice. The nurses are great and always keep me informed if there are any problems. The cleaning of the rooms is okay. Moving in was easy. My Dad seems to like the food, and he can be choosy. Sometimes the staff can seem a bit hurried, but that happens everywhere. Overall, I would tell other people to think about living here.
