Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe

"Great apartment, courtyard, activities, and care staff."
We really like our first floor apartment. The entrance is close by, and we enjoy the patio overlooking the courtyard, which is great for walking and enjoying the outdoors. The large rooms fit our furniture from home perfectly. It has a full kitchen and laundry area. The activity staff offers daily activities for everyone. The care staff is always available.

"Comfortable and diverse assisted living with minor service concerns"
I've been living at Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe for about nine months. The staff have been quick to help whenever I need something. My room, a cozy efficiency, is quiet and nice. The people who live here come from all different backgrounds, which makes this place really interesting. There are activities for everyone to enjoy. Sometimes we have to wait a bit for maintenance, but the staff know what they're doing and get things fixed fast. Some residents complain about the food, but I think it's pretty good. The portions are big, and the taste is fine. I think some older people are just really picky about food. The servers mostly speak English as a second language, but I don't mind because I'm used to talking clearly with my ESL friends and family. I get how frustrating it could be for older folks who already have trouble hearing. Overall, I think this place is pretty nice.

"Sunrise Assisted Living: Always Helpful and Fun"
Sunrise is always busy with lots of activities. They work hard to be the best at everything they do. The dining area is always a fun place to be, making everyone happy. They are there to help you with anything you need help with.

"Poor Treatment and Neglect at Assisted Living Facility"
This place feels like high school, with management forming cliques. They seem not to care about the residents and misuse their authority. Some staff members are impolite and show a lack of respect for people who are less significant. In the memory care section, residents aren't fed or given enough to drink, and the staff talks to them in a mean way. They lose their patience quickly. One team leader, whose name I won't mention, even threatened a resident and nothing was done about it. I wouldn't advise putting a family member here unless you are really aware and visit frequently. You might get a phone call that makes this place sound fantastic, but don't believe it!

"Poor Communication and Unpleasant Odor in Assisted Living Facility"
The facility lacks proper staff communication with families. There's a noticeable smell of urine. The personal care and maintenance of clothing and items like sheets is poor.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
Response times for assistants are often longer than promised due to limited staff. Prescription medication delivery is disorganized and requires multiple follow-ups even after approval. Apartments are generally nice with full kitchens and bright living spaces, but common areas are also pleasant.

"Ideal Home for Independent Living, Nightmare for Assisted Living!"
My buddy called this assisted living facility home for nine months. When moving in, she was assured of top-tier care, but many of those promises were left unfulfilled. Simple things like adapting her kitchen sink for her needs went unnoticed. After her stroke, she relies on aid for daily routine, from getting out of bed, dressing up, to transferring to her powered wheelchair. Unfortunately, the aids often overlooked her morning routine, making her reach out often. This made her miss breakfast on many occasions due to their tardiness. One unfortunate day, she couldn't find her call button. The emergency chain was out of her reach, with her bed wrongly placed. Her post-stroke voice wouldn't command any attention. She couldn't get to her phone for help. She was left in bed all day until someone showed up at 3:00 pm! She endured without relief, medicine, food, and water. She often spent over an hour pleading for help after pressing her call button. This made bathroom visits a daunting task. She paid more for a thrice-weekly bath. Yet, she would consistently struggle to get the service. Either the staff would forget, or they claimed to be too busy to assist her. It was evident that the place was understaffed and the employees underpaid, reflected by the high turnover. The only efficient folks were the billing team, who promptly billed her for services she missed or didn't wish for. On the upside, the place had a cheerful feel if you required no assistance. It was clean, bright, and cordial. But, if you require help now or in the future, reconsider! Thankfully, she found solace at now, she's enjoying excellent care.

"Excellent visit with caring staff and great atmosphere"
I recently visited Brookdale Gayton Terrace while looking for a home for my 94-year-old Mom. We had lunch, toured the facility, and came back for happy hour, which was lively with music and friendly people. My Mom felt this was the right place for her. Here’s what we liked: The owner introduced us to every staff member, who were all friendly and professional. The residents were cheerful and sociable, and the whole place was clean, bright, and inviting. The food was excellent according to my Mom, and the cafe on the first floor is a nice option besides the main dining room. They were compassionate, smart, and extremely helpful. Even though my siblings decided on a different option, they were kind and understanding. They even tore up our deposit check, which I didn’t expect. While I can’t say what living there is like, our visit was very positive. I recommend checking it out if you’re looking for assisted living!

"A wonderful place for your loved one to live"
Everyone was super nice and friendly. They gave a great tour of the place and answered all our questions. They also helped us find financial options. Gayton Terrace was well organized, and all the residents seemed active and happy. The staff made sure to greet the residents when they saw them in the halls. It was really nice to see that they cared about the residents. I would recommend this place to anyone.

"Mom Thriving in Assisted Living"
We're really happy with how my mother-in-law is doing here. She first moved into the memory care area, but they thought she'd thrive in the assisted living section, so now she has a nice apartment there. Her adjustment has been slow since she recently lost her husband, but the staff is helping her. She enjoys going to the dining room, and we're confident she'll eventually participate in the various activities they offer. The community is beautiful, bright, and clean. Many residents have decorated their front doors, creating a comfortable atmosphere.

"Know Your Needs Before Choosing Gayton Terrace"
We got a studio apartment at the Memory Care Center, but we quickly realized the bathroom wasn't ready for a wheelchair user who needed help. After getting sick soon after we moved in, and needing a rehab center, we knew we couldn't go back to Gayton Terrace. They are fixing up the bathroom now, though. Everyone has been really nice and has tried to help us. Even though Gayton Terrace didn't work out for us, I'd suggest it to others.

"A Very Spacious Community"
The tour I had at this place was really nice. I talked to someone who understood my concerns, and I didn't have to wait long for the tour. The prices were similar to other places. When I saw the dining room, it felt like there were about 200 people eating. It was too large for my mom.

"Starting off well, happy with care and community"
My dad is very happy with the care and the community. It is nice and clean with enough space. The staff are friendly and provide the care he needs. My dad enjoys the meals and especially likes those with shrimp. Activities are available for residents, but he’s not comfortable joining them yet. They have him sitting with the same residents during meals, which is beneficial. I would recommend this community to my friends; it’s nice.

"Great place for social and active residents"
This is a really nice place with friendly staff! The studio apartment we saw is roomy and has a small kitchenette. The price is good compared to other places nearby. They have a lot of activities for residents who want to stay busy, and there’s always something fun happening. During our tour, we even got to hear a professional singer perform. It was great! This is a perfect place if you or your loved one like to be social and active. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends!

"Great care and clean facilities with attentive staff!"
I'm really happy with the care my mom is getting. The staff are kind and friendly, and my mom has a good bond with them. They always respond quickly to any issue. The place is very clean, and every time I visit, her room is neat. We had a small problem with her diet plan; she was supposed to have her food chopped up, but now she's on a modified soft diet. I really like them, and the staff care a lot about memory care.

"Welcoming, Great Staff, Accommodating, Tasty Meals, Just the Right Size Community with services to add if needed"
The staff at Gayton Terrace is amazing! The nurses are friendly and willing to help my dad adjust to his new surroundings. They’re working on a medication schedule that suits him. His cozy apartment is almost perfect, except for some ongoing painting and remodeling. Gayton Terrace is just the right size—big enough for variety but not overwhelming. My dad enjoys the balanced meals and activities. We wish the concierge stayed until 11pm, but overall, it’s a welcoming community!

"Wonderful Care and Friendly Staff"
I have my mom at this community, and I really appreciate how kind they are to older people. The place is clean, and the staff are very friendly and engaging. They listen to my mom's sometimes long stories without interrupting. They offer lots of activities and encourage her to join, even though she’s a bit reluctant. I’ve had several meals with her, and we both agree the food is good. Every time I visit, she tells me how friendly everyone is. It’s been a great experience, so I’d recommend this place to anyone.

"Clean, Friendly, Engaging Staff"
My mother-in-law has been at Gayton Terrace for almost four and a half years. The management has changed a few times during that period, including the main director. However, I'm happy with the current director, assistant director, and other staff. It's a very clean and positive place where even the top managers chat with the residents and always have a friendly smile. The director is very friendly and knows the residents well. My mother-in-law enjoys the activity outings and always has something to do. In my opinion, this is a top-notch facility, and in the last few years, it's the best I've seen in terms of managing a place of this size on a day-to-day basis.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
We had some issues when our dad first moved into this place. The center didn't have enough people working there, so things didn't stay tidy. They even neglected to do the laundry and forgotton to bring dad to meals. Luckily, things have gotten better after we talked to them about our problems. They seem to understand what dad needs. I'd recommend this place if you don't require much help. However, we're paying for additional services because my dad needs more assistance.

"Deceptive Fees and Horrible Communication"
The folks in charge of payments weren't honest about the additional fees. Getting in touch with them is incredibly hard, and they're the worst communicators I've ever dealt with. No one seems to have a clue about what's happening and living out of town makes everything even tougher for me.

"Disappointing Service Despite Good Sales Tactics"
The people working there seem nice until you ask for help. My mom signed a rental agreement, but she wasn't moving in until August. They said that was okay. Then, my mom had a serious stroke and had to go somewhere else. Now they want me to pay for a whole month's rent even though she wasn't supposed to move in until August. We even told them about the situation in early June. They're good at selling their place, but they're not good at treating their customers right.

"Good Only for Self-Sufficient Seniors"
Assisted Living Facility Lacking Sufficient, Experienced Staff and Support" This assisted living home is a nice place with fun activities, but it only works well for seniors who can do things for themselves. They say you can age in place, but they really can't follow through on that promise. They simply don't have enough staff, and the staff they do have lacks experience and is always changing. If your grandparent uses a wheelchair or walker, they aren't going to get help quickly. The medical staff can't always give out medicine on time, and often mix up prescriptions. They try to do two things at once, like answering phone calls while passing out meds. Overall, there aren't enough nurses to safely help seniors with bathing or going to bed, and the waits can be long. They hardly have any staff on weekends, and no guarantees there will be a nurse. The longer you live here, the more problems you could have, especially with new residents who need a lot of care coming in. Staff gets overwhelmed, and I've seen a lot of falls. The company who owns this place cares more about having lots of residents than making sure they have enough staff to care for everyone. The Head Nurse tries to make things better, but the state laws aren't really helping. Even though this place ups the fees every year, the help and services are actually getting worse. They say you can get old here, but that's not true. They don't let you know about extra costs beforehand, and prices change regardless of the original contract. This assisted living facility really fails in supporting aging in place.

"Deal Promised by Gayton Terrace Suddenly Revoked After Move-In"
Gayton Terrace ensured us about a specific deal and even made a call to tell us that their higher-ups had given this deal a thumbs-up. But after we had brought in our Father-in-law, the deal was off. We even received a phone call from the Manager to tell us this. We had already moved in when we were informed about this sudden reversal.

"A Nice Community for Aging Loved Ones"
Gayton Terrace is a really nice place to live. Cassandra was super nice, and I had a great time touring the place. I appreciate that they take care of their residents until they pass away, even with Hospice Care. The only downside is they don't offer highly skilled care like IVs and Feeding Tubes. Right now, they don't have any two-bedroom units available, but you can get on a waitlist.

"Great for activities, but too confusing for those with Alzheimer’s"
I really liked Gayton Terrace. I loved that they had different areas for activities. They had a room for movies and a room with tables for card games. It had three floors, and while I liked it a lot, I think it might have been too confusing for my mom. It would be great for someone without Alzheimer’s who doesn’t get confused.

This place is in a great spot for shopping nearby. Susie was amazing, and Theo was awesome too. The new section is super beautiful - it doesn’t even feel like assisted living. The older part is nice too, just not as fancy. Great place, nice amenities, and the rooms are a good size.
