"Very poor treatment at assisted living facility; seeking media attention."

I tried to wave to my elderly relative through a window yesterday but was harshly told to leave. Additionally, I was questioned about what I was doing and reprimanded that I should know better. A lot of other places are letting people visit through sealed windows due to the COVID-19 situation. Also, they're not letting in licensed, essential personnel who are needed to care for my loved one, who requires more attention than other independent adults in the facility. Their role is crucial to my family member's health. I'd advise against choosing this home unless you don't mind having your loved one in a situation that feels like they're in detention, having their freedoms restricted - even being shamed for waving through an unopened window. After how I was mistreated, I wouldn't even dare to trust them to care for a dog. I'm considering reaching out to my local news to see if they'd be interested in covering the facility's inhumane care practices and their lack of empathy!

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short, Poor Communication and Service Experience"

My dad stayed at this place for 8 days. They made us pay for 14, and it took almost 3 months to get our money back. His chair made a hole in the wall, and they charged us $500 to fix it. When I mentioned that it seemed too expensive, [name removed] threatened to delay our refund. It took way too long to get our money back, and no one returned our calls. We asked for a statement of charges for his stay, but refused and even kicked my brother out of his office. My advice is to get everything in writing. The place smells bad, but my dad liked the food. They promised to cut his toenails, but it never happened. He only got one shower, and it took multiple calls to make it happen. Good luck if you decide to bring your loved one here.

"Unprofessional, inconsistent, expensive, turnover, undisclosed charges."

The workers wear sloppy clothes. They don't answer questions well. Prices go up fast. Lots of staff changes. I feel tricked. Hidden fees.

"Workers' Pig Runs Wild in Abysmal Assisted Living Facility!"

Honestly, finding the right spot for a family member is tough. They promised me a positive experience, but boy, was I let down! I kid you not, I found an actual pig gallivanting around the place during a surprise visit. To top it off, it belonged to one of the staff – someone in "management," no less! The carers and staff who actually interact with patients seem to be doing their best, but the folks they call "management" are a total farce. Utterly unprofessional. The building itself is a mess, with air fresheners stationed every few feet to hide the stench. I was told things were improving, but from what I saw, I'm keeping my family at a safe distance!

"Fantastic Care and Support at Laurel Place for Our Family"

We moved my husband's 96-year-old great-grandmother to Laurel Place in August 2016, and she’s still living there. I visit almost every day, sometimes just to drop off things or stay for activities. The staff at Laurel Place are very friendly, but I hope the newer staff will get more confident in talking with families and residents and make more of an effort to introduce themselves. Some of the staff have become like family to us, and those who are really involved are wonderful. We couldn’t be happier with their care! Laurel Place does a great job meeting our great-grandmother's needs. They are patient and respectful, and I truly believe we chose the best assisted living facility in our area. I'm very involved because I believe in being a proactive advocate. The activities are getting better, and while no place is perfect and there have been changes in directors, we feel confident that our great-grandmother is safe, respected, and well cared for when we can’t be there. We really appreciate the chef. He is so patient, kind, and goes above and beyond. His cooking is amazing I wish I could make turkey as good as his! Because of the excellent care, we’re now moving my 93-year-old grandma from Missouri to Laurel Place to be closer to us. Laurel Place has been a great support system, and we’re very grateful for them.

"Great Care for Great Grandma; We're Bringing Grandma Too!"

We moved my husband’s 96-year-old great grandmother to Laurel Place in August 2016, and she’s still living there today. I visit every other day, sometimes daily. I might just drop off things quickly or stay for some activities. The staff at Laurel Place are very friendly. I do wish the newer staff would be a bit more confident and welcoming to the families and residents, and make an effort to introduce themselves. However, some of the staff have become like family to us. The ones who are really involved are amazing, and we couldn’t be happier! Laurel Place is great about meeting our great grandmother’s needs and wants. They are very patient and respectful. I truly believe we picked the best assisted living place in the area. I also like to be an active advocate, so I’m very involved. The activities keep improving. While there is no perfect place and they’ve had some changes in directors, we know our great grandma is safe, respected, and well taken care of when we can’t be there. We really appreciate the chef and everything he does to make our great grandmother happy. He is so patient and kind, and his attitude shows in his food. I wish I could cook turkey as well as he does! Laurel Place has been so great that we’re now moving my 93-year-old grandma from Missouri to Laurel Place so we can have her closer to us. Laurel Place has been an amazing support system, and we’re very grateful for them!

"Amazing Care Staff"

My Dad has been at Laurel Place in Port Angeles for about a year and a half. He also stayed there a few months a couple of years ago, and that's why we chose to return when he couldn't live alone anymore. The care staff are amazing. They go above and beyond their job, giving personal attention and care. They would talk, joke, help, and make my Dad feel at home and like family. I've seen other places, and they weren't like this. It's really the people who work there, the ones who do the day-to-day tasks. My Dad passed away there a few days ago. He could stay there as his condition got worse, and they were so caring and helpful to him. They always treated him with dignity; he was never just a client. They treated me the same way. I was there 2-3 times a day, and they always thanked me for what I was doing, talked over any concerns, and just wanted the best for him. Thank you again. I would highly recommend this place for your family.

My mom is doing well in this community. I've been really pleased with the services they provide for her.

"A Cozy Hilltop Community"

This neat community sits atop a hill, but it didn't feel very welcoming. You need to have your own doctor because it's tough to find one nearby. Also, the ceiling by the pool table is too low for playing.

"Unfriendly Staff at Laurel Place Assisted Living"

On the phone, they seemed nice and supportive. However, when we visited the place in person, they were rude and not friendly at all. My Mom doesn't want to stay there because of their unkindness. We felt that they were needlessly mean.

"Fantastic Care and Compassion at Laurel Place!"

I've had a great experience at Laurel Place. My mom lived there for many years and recently passed away while in hospice. The staff was incredibly caring and kind, not just to my mom, but to me and my family too. They took amazing care of her while she was there. There were fun activities and outings, and the care was excellent. I would definitely recommend Laurel Place to anyone looking for a home for their loved ones.
