"This place is pretty good overall. The food quality has dropped, and my mom always complains about the lukewarm meals."

"Key Issues and Poor Customer Care"
Their key didn't work when they tried to open an apartment door (huge red flag for me). Plus, they had a waiting list, so it felt like they didn't care if I wanted a room or not.

"Great community, but apartment location not ideal"
This was a nice community with a friendly atmosphere. The only downside was that the apartment wasn't on the first floor, which my loved one really wanted.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
Nice housekeeping and tasty food. However, the front desk staff are impolite and unhelpful. While they assist with medications, they don't offer diabetic care.

"Avoid Merrill Gardens Tacoma for Elderly Care Concerns"
I DON'T SUGGEST Merrill Gardens Tacoma. Here's why: They don't follow POLSTs. If someone needs help, they start CPR before checking POLST. My parents don't want life-saving measures. Imagine how upset my mom would be if her husband had a heart attack. It's awful not to respect a legal document. The manager isn't very kind to elderly people. My mom can't see well and struggles with the laundry machine. The manager's response was unhelpful and unsympathetic. We had to hire a private caregiver because staff sometimes forget essential things like putting sheets on beds. They're slow to respond. My mom asked for medication, and it took two weeks with no results. After a procedure, she had to ask for pain relief hours in advance due to their slow response. If you're seeking elder care, look elsewhere.

"Beautiful facility but care costs are higher than expected"
We moved my mother-in-law to Merrill Gardens 6 months ago. The facility is beautiful and very well maintained. She loves the food and seems quite happy. We hoped she could live fairly independently, but she has needed more care than we expected. The nursing staff decides how much care she needs and calculates the cost based on that. It's become more expensive than we had planned. Although she needs some physical help, they increase the cost based on how they assess her memory. She's still pretty sharp, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Overall, I would definitely recommend it.

"Nice facility, but needs more activities and better service"
Everyone at this place has been very nice. My mom is much happier here. The facility is nice and she can even have her dog. However, she has some complaints. She thinks there aren’t enough activities and gets bored a lot. She says the residents mostly play bingo and watch TV, which isn’t very exciting. Since my mom is blind, there have been times when she couldn’t get the wait staff’s attention in the dining room and missed meals. Also, she lives on the 3rd floor, which is hard for her and her dog to navigate. She’s hoping for a room on the 1st floor soon. I’d recommend this place to other families.

"Nice place, friendly staff, but chose another facility for mom"
I visited Merrill Gardens at Tacoma and found it really nice, with friendly staff. The tour guide was punctual and knowledgeable. It seemed like a good option, but we chose a different place that we felt suited my mother’s needs better.

"Memory Care Facility with Clean, Welcoming Environment and Friendly Staff"
This place has a separate building for memory care. I wasn't sure it would suit us. The tour guide was friendly and helpful. The community looked clean during our visit.
