"Cozy Atmosphere, Some Concerns"
I visited The Lodge at Mallard's Landing while searching for an Assisted Living facility for my loved one. The tour was okay, but I wished for more time. The atmosphere felt cozy, but it seemed too large and spread out for my dad. There were many stairs and elevators. Although they're known for great food, I didn't get a chance to try it.

"Great lodge with nice benefits but smaller rooms."
I absolutely LOVED the lodge. They have a 5-year Social Security spend down, which is great. My dad didn’t pick this place because the layout wasn’t as nice and the rooms were smaller than some others we saw. Other than that, it was a great place and definitely a top choice.

"Great care despite staffing issues; facility is beautiful and welcoming."
The Lodge at Mallard's Landing is a bit short-staffed, so we're not getting all the care we're paying for. But the staff that are there work really hard and try their best to meet everyone's needs. We’re paying for the top level of care, but due to the staffing issues, our family has to help a lot. If we weren’t there to advocate, things like trays might be left behind or trash might not get emptied. Despite the staffing problems, the most important thing is that my aunt is very happy there. She’s in their memory care unit, and after a month, she loves it and doesn’t want to leave. We had to fill out a huge amount of paperwork, even for simple things like having her toenails cut once a month by a doctor. We discovered that a lot of the paperwork wasn’t processed correctly, and she wasn’t signed up for some services. We had to follow up to make sure everything was taken care of, which was disappointing. For example, my aunt had been to the emergency room several times for dehydration because she only drinks ice water. We had mentioned this in her paperwork, but at first, the staff didn’t bring her ice water. They’ve learned now, and she gets her ice water. Also, my aunt uses oxygen, and it was a challenge for them at first. They had issues with running out of oxygen or giving her empty bottles, but now they’ve figured it out. The most important thing to us is her happiness. Despite the issues, her joy means everything. She’s happy, and that’s amazing! She didn’t want to leave her home, and we expected some difficulties, but the staff are very kind. There are a few caregivers she really loves, and even with dementia, she remembers their names. It warms my heart. The facility is beautiful and has a nice location with trees and a lake nearby. It looks like a mountain lodge and feels very welcoming. They even painted a beautiful mountain mural over a door in the memory care unit so residents don’t try to leave. This clever touch seems to be working. My aunt also always praises the delicious food.
