"Hard Pass on Brookdale: Bad Food and Unprofessional Staff"
As a relative of a former resident, I must say Brookdale is not somewhere I'd suggest for anyone. The food is flavorless and the staff is unhelpful. Other residents would sometimes act out inappropriately. Overall, it was just a really bad experience. My mom even shared that a lot of the staff would talk to her about their personal problems and gossip about coworkers. It ended up being a very negative experience for both of us.

"Poor Staffing and Care at Assisted Living Facility"
The place definitely didn't have enough staff. They said they'd sort that out to match what the residents needed, but they totally dropped the ball. It felt like when we realized our mom required extra help, they responded by bumping up our costs, but she never got that extra assistance she needed. Our mom's doctor said she needed to move to a safe place because of her condition. But after a bunch of meetings about her care, the facility, Brookdale, said they could handle it and wanted her to stay. But when she wandered off and was lost for two hours, they reached out to us and told us to hire round-the-clock private care until we moved her away from there. I gotta say, the whole experience was upsetting and a letdown.

"Positive visit to Brookdate, weighed against larger facility options."
I visited Brookdate in Onalaska on August 6th, 2018. [Name removed], our guide, was wonderful and clearly passionate about her role. She spent ample time with us and was always ready to answer questions. The small size, with only 19 residents, fosters a close-knit community. I appreciated the discreet nighttime check-ins every 2 hours. They offer personalized care plans and are flexible with special needs. Ultimately, we chose a different facility with larger private spaces, more amenities, and closer proximity. I believe my mother-in-law would have thrived here, and I hope she does well at our chosen facility.

"Weekend Activities Need Improvement"
My mom's doing great there, getting proper care. Activities are fine but wish there were more on weekends. Staff is nice, they keep us informed. Mom loves the meals, lots of tasty choices.

The people who work here are really nice and have helped my friend a lot. The place looks nice and everything is in good condition. My friend says the food is good, and he eats a lot. They have things to do, but he doesn't like them, so we go to see him often.

This place is really tiny. They make everything at home. They grow veggies and eat them. They accept singles. A manicure person and a hair person come once a week. No showers in rooms, they use the hall shower room.

This place looks nice and neat. It's really quiet, but when we visited at 2 PM, we didn't see any residents hanging out or doing anything. It felt kind of like a nursing home, which isn't what we're looking for right now for our parents.
